President Obama has said a few times since being sworn in in January that if he only served one term he will be fine, because no matter how long he is in office, he wants to be able to affect change. It’s his goal. Has he succeeded in doing this so far? Nope. Some things have changed through the Executive Orders he’s signed, but the economy still lingers. It’s a freaking mess and even Joe Biden said recently that the mess is worse than anyone thought prior to the Obama Administration coming on board!
George Bush starved our nation to the point you can drown it in a bathtub. Obviously, this was done on purpose, because why would a conservative like him want the government to function (needs money to function) properly anyway when it’s conservatives who think government shouldn’t have any money to function, because they’re completely against taxes? Why would he care what was left to the next president? He didn’t care and this has always been the strategy of the republican party starting with Ronald Reagan. They spend like drunken sailors when they’re in office, they don’t give a shit that there is trillions in debt, they still spend and ignore the signs and signals that there policies are failing, and they just don’t care. They’re completely happy handing over a plate with a couple of crumbs on it to feed the next presidency and the people.

What if President Obama is not able to fix the economy, fix healthcare, and our nation plummets even further? What will the right wingers who will be running for the presidency in 2012 use as their platform against President Obama? So far, we’re still in Iraq and Afghanistan and President Obama’s intention is to have both conflicts & our soldiers home by the end of 2011. The republicans have defended these two war fronts for years now. Are they suddenly going to be screaming, ‘We’re still there! Obama has failed!”, if Obama for whatever reason doesn’t bring them home thanks to actions of the republicans and a handful of Democrats? The republicans hate the idea of fixing heathcare. If President Obama is unable to fix it thanks to the republicans and a handful of Democrats, what will the republicans use as a slogan against him during the next race? And what about the economy? So far the money of the stimulus bill has trickled out slowly due to no money in our nation’s coffers, but this is what the republicans wanted anyway because they were completely against the stimulus bill passing in the first place and wanted no money to go out to any state. Are they going to argue when running for the presidency that not enough of the money went out while at the same time saying they were completely against stimulating the economy and always was? I mean, really, seems to me if President Obama is not able to get a damn thing done during his presidency then that means the republicans will not be able to defend the status quo…..which is what the republicans have been arguing for…..dont’ change a thing! They’ve wanted George Bush’s policies to stay in place and so far…..they have gotten their wish. President Obama will be cutting their balls off in the next president election! The republicans won’t have much to complain about if nothing has truly changed in Obama’s first 4 years (which again, is what they want!), correct?
I’m sure President Obama will be fine if he’s not re-elected in 2012, because the shitpile he inherited was too big to fail. Wouldn’t it be nice to see the biggest shitpile in the history of America being placed back on the right wing’s shoulders where it belongs? I think so. 2012 is going to be an interesting race and if Sarah Palin is in it, it’s going to be that much better. Let’s think about this for a second of Sarah Palin being in the White House with a heavily controlled Democratic Congress underneath her……she won’t be able to get much done either. The fixing of our nation should have been done under George Bush as it was happening, but instead, he chose to ignore all aspects and focused on Iraq only.
Next year will be a key year for President Obama. This is when the tax cuts for the uber wealthy that George Bush instilled during a time of war will finally sunset. This is also the tax year when Americans will see more money in their pockets due to the tax cuts President Obama crafted. I keep reading online that the right wingers think the whole economy should fail, so we can start fresh and correct it (kind of the same philosophy they held about the car industry and the banks….just let them fail so the smaller companies can pick up the slack). If that does happen, what will these right wingers say? I bet at election time they’ll argue the opposite and will continue to look like fools! *shaking head*
Mark Haines of CNBC said a few months ago on his show that the DOW is going to hover around 8,000 points and then will plummet and crash @ October of this year. How does he know this? We’ll have to see if this is true in October, but if it does play out like this, then maybe we can believe that the whole entire economy was manipulated right from the start under George Bush using his Wall Street buddies and all of what we witnessed was intentional and deliberate. For a guy like Mark to make a statement like this and being an insider to Wall Street, I will assume he knows a lot more than he and his cohorts on CNBC let on at times. As of right now, the DOW is hovering @ 8,000 points. Hmmmmm……

China is backing away from US debt, the value of the dollar is sliding and obama wants to further increase the debt. One idea that would spur the economy is the fair tax but that removes power from the politicians so we know that won’t happen.

That misses the point entirely. The only reason 70% of the people are happy with their healthcare is that they haven’t had the occasion to use it. My brother and sister in law have decent health insurance, and yet they still were stuck with a $3000 hospital bill after their son was born. God help you if you are really sick. Anybody who thinks healthcare is not already seriously rationed in this country is simply not paying attention, or hasn’t participated in the system.
The other issue is the cost of the uninsured. People without health insurance do in fact get healthcare, but the cost is borne by the providers and the facilities, who then pass the cost on to guess who? The people who DO have health insurance, through higher costs on all services. They pass on those costs to the ones who do pay-the health insurance companies-who then pass the cost on to you, their insured. We are already providing national health care, we just don’t label it as such.
The other issue is performance. The US ranks woefully behind other industrialized nations in their healthcare outcomes. In fact,the U.S. now ranks last out of 19 countries on a measure of mortality amenable to medical care, falling from 15th as other countries raised the bar on performance. Up to 101,000 fewer people would die prematurely if the U.S. could achieve leading, benchmark country rates.
I bet those dead and the families aren’t satisfied with *their* healthcare…

Gallup just came out with their June poll showing Obama has a 61% APPROVAL rating, down 1 pt. from March, and down two pts. from May. His biggest drop was in Ohio where it has dropped from 62% to 49% but that state has been hit hard by auto industry closings and layoffs. Ohio is a state where Republicans had had a majority of Congress members, but losing 5 seats last fall with Democrats now holding 10 seats to the Republican’s 8 seats. The state usually votes more Republican, voting for Bush twice.

Conservatives do actually want a properly functioning government and they aren’t completely against taxes.
What they DON’T want is a government that functions properlyfor the benefit of the majority, and the taxes that they are against are taxes that THEY might be obliged to pay.
Conservatives LOVE government and actually the bigger the better—as long as THEY don’t have to PAY for it.
SO why do they keep going on about lowering taxes, even giving out rebates? Because that is an investment in votes that can give them control over the government where the BIG MONEY is—in tax relief to the big companies that they themselves own, or those that pay for their campaigns and give them kickbacks via stock and stock tips, and who, once the Congress critter finally leaves office, employs them as lobbyists, as board members and Think-Tank ‘scholars’ to continue control over the money manipulating mechanisms that Government provides.
Big Oil got multi-billion tax-rebates even as they racked up record profits from the rise in oil prices due to a war of choice that was being paid for by borrowing money from China with all the interest payments to be billed to the average taxpayer whilst the corporations funneled some of their money in untaxed offshore accounts, and spent some of it speculating to drive profits even higher.
It’s not by chance that Big Media championed the war and made financial “reporting” a sporting event commentated by “personalities”.
It’s not a coincidence that Investment Bank regulations were eviscerated so that they could cash-in on other big industry windfalls to make more profits on just transaction fees, not on actual tangible collateral. Each mega industry invested in the other, and they have all invested most heavily in conservative politicians.
It’s only a guess, but I bet a significant proportion of the ‘losses’ announced in the financial sector collapse never existed as profits or liquidity in the first place—though all the Banksters believed they were actually real. The ‘losses’ weren’t actual profits, but potential profits, combined with future interest obligations on any borrowed money ( and as for instance CDOs and CDS were being leveraged 35:1 the potential losses were indeed huge).
But as I’m sure you have noticed, when the banks got bailed out by the promise of liquidity injections from the ordinary taxpayer, all the salaries and bonuses have been paid-out FIRST, and THUS the architects of this disaster had their personal profits GUARANTEED by a loan from the US taxpayer, who has now taken on THEIR ‘losses’ from which they have been so generously relieved. ( This is the opposite of what happens when a small business goes bankrupt—the CREDITORS are paid first, the principles and employs of the company are paid LAST, IF AT ALL).
And it’s all legal because it is government sanctioned and government controlled.
For the Conservatives, the government worked ‘properly’, because they’d designed it to work exactly that way, for THEM, and the taxes that we all empower the government to draw from US that WE expect to serve OUR needs, served the minority Conservatives instead.
Like I said, Conservatives love taxes and love government, just as long as it’s not THEIR taxes that pay for THEIR government.
THAT’s what they want to CONSERVE.

The conservatives never come across that they want the government to benefit and function well for the majority. Seems to me their focus is always on the top percent of our society and the rest can screw off. I’ve always thought of the word “conservative” as a cover for those in the republican party who spend like drunken sailors too. LOL But hey, other than this point, I agree with what you said.
President Obama will win re-election if you ask me, but your comment about who replaces him if he only does one term is a good one. Honestly, if it’s a republican and the Congress is democratically controlled, I’m not sure we’re going to see any change at all if Obama is unable to make change in the next 4 years (thanks to the No party!). Obama’s second term will be a strong one I suspect.
