Wendy Gramm was fine with Enron bilking billions from American’s pockets, so I’m sure she’s fine with her husband Phil in being the catalyst for Americans losing billions more through UBS….
Tonight I was over on FireDogLake clicking through the posts and reading the comments when I found this interesting piece of info (comment #5):
Interesting find…from a consumer of blogs. Someone scrubbed Phil Gramms wiki reference to omit his Chairmanship of UBS Bank…between February 12-13. I suspect that would have been about the time that UBS was being told they had to turn over the names of their American investors.
Odd that someone would think that Gramm needed his history expunged…given the fact that this association is widely found everywhere else on the net. But the timing is interesting…and the facft that it’s the only sentence removed by this “editor”.
And sure enough, if you go to Phil Gramm’s Wikipedia link and do a Control F, you will be unable to find “UBS” or the key words “Union”, “Bank” or “Switzerland” anywhere inside his Wiki. Even if you search for, “Swiss Bank Corporation”, you will not be able to find a thing about Gramm’s time at this company. Now, who the hell would want to scrub Gramm’s Wiki to make it appear as if he had never stepped foot in a UBS branch across the planet? Phil Gramm worked for UBS Bank for years , so you would think ole former Enron Senator Phily Boy would be proud of his time there!
Oh wait.
Maybe it has something to do with THIS? Or THIS? Or maybe Phil Gramm is lying when he says he’s not to blame when he decided to slip in a 262-page amendment regulating credit default swaps and other lovely crap that has catapulted our economy into the abyss?
You decide. Me? I’m going to make a Phil Gramm pinata and beat the shit out of it until there’s nothing left!
I use Wikipedia for overviews but always head to the bottom and look at the links to substantiate facts. I remember seeing in Wiki how AIPAC bragged about sabotaging the re-election of Sen. Charles Percy (R-IL) in 1984 with their influence and money. A few days later I went back to that Wiki entry only to find that whole AIPAC bit had been scrubbed clean. However, I was able to Google Tom Dine, then head of AIPAC and find this quote on other websites.
Grant, I think it’s safe to say we can’t trust the content of the right winger’s wiki entries. The poor things are embarrassed at how they’re connected to the downfall of all societies. LOL
Scrubbing wiki of FACTS is just the reich-wingnuts way of trying to rewrite history so their collective responsibility for the worst economic crash and the illegal War in the middle east might go un-noticed.
Too bad all of us are still alive and we remember, but morons like WATB “hal turner” want to start changing that also.

Because they are a cult. These people are brainwashed. It’s been mass brainwashing in my opinion. They get brainwashed more and more each day from the radical reich extremists on AM hate radio, they get it from their beloved church leaders like Hagee, Robertson, Dobson, Parsley, Hammond and when they aren’t being brainwashed by them they are being brainwashed by their co-workers and their peers within social and community settings. I have seen it first hand with a couple family members.
An example of how bad it is, they can be at a rally or a local political function and know the people they look up to and admire is totally wrong on a certain subject and yet they won’t speak out because to do so might threaten their standing among their own peers in social circles. They also have the herd mentality.
Next thing you know Gramm will have his name scrubbed from the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, the bill that started this whole financial/home mortgage/banking crisis.
Back in 1982 the Reagan administration pushed “The Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act” which was written by lobbyists of S&L’s (Fred Thompson) and nearly led to the S&L industry collapsing seven years later and cost the American taxpayer billions of dollars.
Fast forward to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act which was pushed by the republican majority and again written by lobbyists and look at the affect it has had on the financial and banking sector 6-10 years later.
Is it just a coincidence that bills such as The Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982, The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act Of 1999 and The Commodity Futures Modernization Act Of 2000 (Contained the Enron loophole) bills that were all pushed by republicans, written by lobbyists all led to major scandals, corruption and crisis? Do you get the common denominator in all of this?
Add “The Commodity Modernization Act Of 2000″ to the list above. This bill was written by Enron lobbyists and pushed again by Phil Gramm. This bill included the “Enron Loophole” which led to the vast unchecked oil speculation which drove up oil prices and led to high energy prices and the energy blackout in California.
In short the republican’ts suck and only serves the banksters, Wall Street, Oil companies NOT the average American citizen…THIS MEANS YOU JFH AND THE OTHER REPUBLICAN’TS WHO ARE SOOOO BLIND!

The satirical comedy skits put on by Lior Klein concerning Jesus and Mary on Israel’s Channel 10 last week have provoked rallies and protests by Palestinian-Israeli Christians, of whom there are about 120,000. They also drew condemnation from Muslim Palestinian-Israelis, of whom there are over a million. Klein said that since Christians were denying the Holocaust, he was denying Christianity. He and Channel 10 later apologized to a delegation of Israeli Christians, and pledged that the skits would not be rerun.
The skits denied Jesus’s miracles, said he died young because he was too fat and so could not have walked on water, and said Mother Mary was not a virgin but rather a promiscuous woman who had had many lovers and first got pregnant in high school at age 15.
I guess the American Taliban-AIPAC crowd will deny this ever happened, cause according to them Israel never does a single thing wrong and Arab Muslims are never right.
I can’t wait to hear all the American Taliban and reich-wingnut neo-con heads exploding trying to fit this into their dishonest spin;
Arab Muslims DEFENDING Jesus from attacks by Israeli Jews.
Most likely they will stamp their feet and screech it is a lie.

Did you know Enron is back….in Maine in the form of First Wind. Larry Summers through his D E Shaw Group bought up a lot of Enron assets and ex executives. The Pres. used to work for Bechtel. They haven’t changed their ways at all or lost any of their charm. We will be the next Ill. with pay to play stories.Gov. Baldaci is in bed with them. Laws change quickly for any little thing First Wind wants.
It is a fact that (perhaps you have to be a Wickipedia registrant) Wikipedia users can examine the history of edits of articles, including what wording was changed and who changed it. Some edits done by users who are not logged in by name are recorded only by IP address. So, I would think that you would be able to determine by inspection the name of the “editor” who made that change. And you could determine what other changes, across Wikipedia, that editor has made, and inspect those.
It is also not terribly difficult (I have done it) to become a Wikipedia editor, and to make corrections and additions or subtractions from articles.
I would recommend that someone with expertise in the Gramm matter write a temperate and considered description of Gramm’s association with UBS and add it to the article – including citations and references meeting the standards specified by the Wikipedia guidelines.
Of course in our current circumstance it would be especially appropriate to include the information about the reported Credit Default Sway amendment referred to at the end of the post. I had not heard about that one, or had forgotten it.
