Oh boy. There are three things US Senator Susan Collins of Maine and the Maine GOP wants you to believe about her. They are:
1) She is not a lesbian or a Log Cabin lesbian
2) She would never have an affair with a married man whose wife is ill, even though, she points fingers at Sen. John Edwards for doing the same thing
3) She’s a moderate
Yep. Suzie-Q wants you to believe she’s a Saint of the Highest Order. Well, she’s not and she has some explaining to do to the people of Maine and to those around the country who support John McCain as Suzie-Q does, because twice in the past year I’ve heard the following “rumor”. The first time was in conversation with a Mainah and the second time was in an email I received recently from another Mainah. Maybe if we’re lucky the Sen. Susan Collins camp will shed some light on all of this for us!
By the way, there is nothing online addressing this “rumor”. It’s coming from Mainahs directly.
Okay, so here’s the “rumor” that Mainahs have mentioned over the past year to me…
The “rumor” (or GOP planted story to make it appear that Susan Collins is NOT a lesbian) is that Sen. Susan Collins of Maine was having an affair with a guy from Tennessee who happens to also be a GOP operative in that state and who was a senior aide to Fred Thompson. This man is married and his wife has Alzheimer’s. Now, if this is a true story and not a rumor, then that would explain to everyone that she is not a lesbian, but it would also highlight the fact that she is a HIGHLY HYPOCRITICAL ASSHOLE FOR GOING AFTER SEN. JOHN EDWARDS ABOUT HIS AFFAIR ON A LOCAL RADIO STATION HERE IN MAINE!
Or maybe this whole story is just a plant by the Maine GOP to “prove” that Collins isn’t a lesbian, but maybe at the time they threw it out there, they didn’t realize the guy’s wife had Alzheimers and didn’t realize months later that ole Suzie-Q would be looking a little hypocritical going after John Edwards as she does today!
Hey, could be. Either scenario could be true or neither is.
Now, let’s look back as to what was happening around the time Susan Collins was having an affair with the man of a sick wife (assuming it was when Fred Thompson was running for the presidency) and before that…
Remember Michael Heath? He’s the right wing moron here in Maine of the Christian Civic League who went after Rita Moran (a Democrat who is also a Pagan) because of her spiritual beliefs. This guy hates gays and will go to any length to “eradicate” them from the state of Maine. Basically he’s a ball of hate and can’t understand why everyone hates him so much (including other Christian leaders). Back in 2005, he started a campaign here in Maine where he wanted legislators to “out” other legislators.

They left Maine alone among New England states without an anti-bias shield for gays and lent credence to the crackpot antics of the Christian Civic League’s director, Michael Heath. After the 1998 fight, Heath faced accusations of underhanded accounting from his own followers. In 2005, his exploits included soliciting “rumors†and “speculation†on the sexual orientation of Maine officials to post on the Internet.
Some heterosexual lawmakers mocked the stunt by outing themselves in solidarity with gay colleagues and constituents. So Heath compounded deceit with arrogance, peddling the falsehood that the law permitted same-sex marriage. He then hoped to parlay that lie to repeal the modest anti-bias proposal, which had GOP co-sponsors in the legislature. Heath’s duplicitous behavior only deepened the zeal of Christian groups to join the crusade from out of state. Focus on the Family, the Colorado-based group led by James Dobson, trotted out an ex-homosexual to sell its gays-can-change snakeoil.
Well, Michael Heath’s little stunt backfired because he wasn’t banking on the fact that some of the gays in the State House were republican (he thought only Democrats were gay *rolling eyes*), of course, but many like myself did wonder aloud if this would be a good time to “out” Sen. Susan Collins! Enter Scott Fish of As Maine Goes…
Scott Fish is the owner & editor of As Maine Goes (AMG) and he had worked for years in the State House in Augusta for the republicans as their PR guy. Well, back in 2000, he lost his job in Augusta after there were quite a few comments on AMG that weren’t in support of Sen. Susan Collins & Sen. Olympia Snowe. Apparently, comments were made about them by Maine right wingers on AMG because Susan & Olympia voted against impeaching Bill Clinton when he had his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Of course, there could have been other comments about Sen. Susan Collins…you know….maybe bringing up her sexuality? Could be. The comments were removed from AMG, but what is so interesting to me is….
Sen. Susan Collins doesn’t want ANYONE to know what her REAL SEXUALITY is and anyone who questions it gets the “Collins Mafia” treatment! Yep. She appears to have a very strong arm here in Maine, has for years, and some like to say AMG and the republicans in the Maine GOP and in the State House aren’t connected. Riiiiiiiiiiight.
Has anyone who questioned her sexuality ever gotten a dead fish or a horse’s head on their front steps? No idea. For now, Sen. Susan Collins is okay with her right wing underlings in giving the impression that it’s really future Senator Tom Allen of Maine who is the Mafia thug! Again, riiiiiiiiiiiight. *rolling eyes*

Lots of trouble seems to happen when anyone questions Sen. Suzie-Q! It could happen to me too for creating this post and questioning whether or not the above “rumor” is true or not. ANOTHER INTERESTING SIDEBAR NOTE: I did THIS POST recently questioning if Susan Collins is a lesbian or not, but when I go to Google and type in “Susan Collins lesbian”…on the 2nd page of these searchable terms… there’s a link to the post (half way down), but interestingly enough, it does not say “whitenoiseinsanity” in the address link and when you click on the post, it goes to a Wordpress page with the actual post on the top of the page. I gave up trying to find the original direct link to my post when I got to Page #12 on Google’s search pages. Oh boy! Very interesting! Collins Mafia again protecting her sexuality? Could be.
Actually, I did call Sen. Susan Collins’ office in Lewiston, Maine this year after I had published the above post on her asking if she was a lesbian or not. Here’s what I wrote in the comment section of that post after I had done so:
Suzie-Q’s DC’s office doesn’t open until 9am, so I called her local office in Lewiston, Maine (which by the way the number is 207-784-6969…not surprised there are two 69’s in it! LOL!). I started out by explaining that I had been reading online how Suzie-Q’s campaign is going after Tom Allen’s voting record and how the Collins campaign is leaving out the fact that Allen has been attending to personal matters during some of the votes. I asked the young woman how Susan Collins’ husband and children feel about her doing that and she said to me (lots of nervous coughing I may add) that Suzie-Q doesn’t have a husband or kids. I responded with a Scooby-Doo, “Huh?â€. I said, “Oh wow. Is she a lesbian?â€, and the young woman (who was now busy trying to find me Collin’s campaign office number in DC) said she wasn’t. I asked her if Suzie-Q was dating someone and she said, “Oh yesâ€, and I asked her what his name was. She said she didn’t know but that this man lives in DC and accompanies her to events in the DC area. I asked, “Is he a paid escort?â€, and with more nervous coughing and a tinge of laughter she said, “I don’t think soâ€.
Well, there you have it. I don’t even have to call the campaign’s DC office because I’ve concluded from this phone call that those who are close to Susan Collins ARE PROTECTING HER SEXUALITY.
I’ll go on record with my opinion that Sen. Suzie-Q is a lesbian and if her campaign reads this and they feel differently, I’d like for them to give us the facts (along with pictures) of Suzie-Q’s boyfriends.
To be fair to Ms. Susan, I honestly don’t care if she’s a lesbian. I think if she came clean to the Maine public most of us would just go on with our lives, but what I do care about is if she’s had an affair with a married man whose wife has Alzheimer’s and is going on Maine radio shows to make fun of Sen. John Edwards for doing the same thing, then she needs to come clean with all of us! She needs to either deny it publicly she had this affair OR SHE NEEDS TO GO PUBLIC WITH AN APOLOGY & WITH THE TRUTH AS SEN. EDWARDS DID!
Let me guess….Collins is okay with the affair she had because she wasn’t in love with him? *rolling eyes*
Only a coward would act like the Mafia to keep her little secrets from being exposed! It took a ton of courage for Sen. John Edwards to admit publicly that he had lied to us and deceived us as well. It’s now Sen. Susan Collins’ turn to show us the same kind of courage.
I expect Sen. Susan Collins to be brave in addressing this issue, since this is the impression she’s given her supporters here in Maine over the years. *cough*

Then on the rope line pops up this dyke with a Hillary shirt who enthusiastically showed Tweety her big McCain button she had pinned on it. Of course since she probably will never become pregnant, she doesn’t have to worry about McCain’s stand on a “woman’s choice.” I liked that Tweety asked her, “Shouldn’t you be in St. Paul?”

Suzie-Q is able to make every vote in the Senate, because….well….she doesn’t have any children or a significant other to have to worry about!
As a gay man, I should be more tolerant of my gay “sisters” but too many are, face it, man-haters. My lesbian cousin once remarked that “no man will carry my casket” and sure enough, at her grave, she had 6 women huffing and puffing! Lesbians often come into predominantly male gay bars, sometimes even taking them over. But I’ve been made to feel most UNwelcome the few times I have been in a “ladies only” bar. Most often it is like I am invisible. At one bar (that I entered by accident), the woman bartender ignored me while she flirted with another woman at the end of the bar. I had to ask her to please serve me a beer which she finally came around to do, but with visible disgust. Sure, gay men aren’t usually turned on by women sexually but most of us have good relations with our mothers, sisters, and female friends. And we are more hospitable welcoming them into our social circles than the other way around. I can only imagine what it would be like to go on a Rosie McDonnell ocean cruise.
At my high school reunion, two lesbians from my class (and lovers now for 30 years) had a good conversation with me and they are enthusiastically supporting Barack Obama. Both had been in unfulfilled marriages to men for about 20 years previously, even raising children. We get along great and can laugh. One even sent me this satirical website:

Since 1/3 of gays are Republicans, I do believe that the pro-Hillary PUMAs are actually Republican women who only came over to Hillary’s side because of her sex. Do these women NOT know that John McCain is a man, too, but who is far from being pro-woman? Let them go back to the GOP, but first they aren’t finished doing damage to the Democratic Party.

Molly, I know my perspective is anecdotal. I have been “out” since 1965. There is some resentment among gay males that lesbians have it easier in the job market and the military, even. We had several “out” lesbians in the schools where I have worked. I have rarely met a straight girls coach (even my cousin and her lover were coaches), but a male coach would be fired if he were discovered to be gay. We male teachers had to be closeted OR ELSE! The last school were I taught, one of the lesbian coaches owned a red Ford Mustang that was often seen parked at a known lesbian bar, right out front!
I do think that most in the gay world probably have a genetic disposition towards same sex relationships. I know I fought my feelings from about age 8 when I realized I was “different”. I also believe that some have been hurt in relationships and wonder if they haven’t chosen their gay lifestyle as a result. The latter might be those who hold resentment towards the opposite sex. I am a believer in both “nature and nurture”.
Most all of us need somebody to love, somebody to care for and have those feelings be returned. I entered my first gay bar at age 25 after three failed hetero relationships and realized I was gay. I no longer had the anxiety around gay males I had felt all of those previous years in hetero affairs. My problems with alcohol, drugging, and depression suddenly disappeared once I accepted who I was. However, my very FIRST relationship with a guy, originally from New Orleans, went sour. He moved back to New Orleans before Christmas 1965 and insisted I come to Mardi Gras a few weeks later. Well, he blatantly cheated on me saying that “nobody is faithful during Mardi Gras”. I drove back to Houston bitter, but also realizing that infidelity wasn’t male nor female, but a human choice and that one’s sex, whether hetero or gay, made no difference.
Maybe living in a big city with hundreds of thousands of gays, social groups are sometimes harder to form and there is tendency for gay males and females here to go their separate ways. I have been disturbed by those who reveal hate towards the opposite sex and in my experiences, I find that lesbians seem to show their disdain more than do gay males. Maybe it could be that males tend to not reveal feelings as much.
I don’t like drag shows. I don’t condone those males who seek the company of “fag hags” either in order to attract attention to themselves. Unlike those who think the drag queens flatter women, I find them often doing the opposite, especially those who try to make up themselves to be obnoxious, flamboyant and unattractive women. In contrast, I have known a few transsexuals and they tend to act like normal persons of the sex they identify with. My empathy is with those who feel so trapped in the wrong body.
I go to Pride events but I have never involved myself much in the gay community, in part due to so much of the social life revolving around bars and I fought alcoholism for most of my late teens and early twenties, so it is best I avoid them. Many in our world remain in smaller social circles and are not bar flies. In fact my partner and I mostly interact with the straight world, our family and friends there. I was “straight” for the first 25 years of my life and I didn’t change how I always had acted just because I came “out”. My partner didn’t come out until he was in his late 30’s feeling so restricted in a military career.
The lesbians I enjoy being around love being women, dressing, themselves in feminine attire and looking their best. The ones that often give me bad vibes are the butch ones who dress like men, act like macho males. Just like drag queens overplay female traits, I have noticed many of the butch lesbians overplay male traits. Some say they like to dress like men as it is empowering, and say it isn’t about sex, but all about combating the social, economic and political oppression many say they have known for such a long time competing in a society controlled by males. But hopefully a time can come when women can look and act feminine and still be at the top of their career ladder. I have always been outspoken about EQUAL rights for everyone. We would have a happier world if everyone, every government honored equality.

I received an email today pointing out that this affair Susan Collins had most likely happened when she was first running for the US Senate back in the 1990’s, you know, the race she was in where she used lots of dirty tricks to win.
