She’ll probably be thinking, “Woohoo! I faked out Mainers again by making them think I’m a moderate and a pro-choice Senator from the good ole state of Maine!”. Spit.
Well, she has good reason to be thinking this, because the opponents of abortion are ECSTATIC WITH SENATORS LIKE SUSAN COLLINS.
Here’s what the People for the American Way had to say about non-moderate, jackboot licking, Senator Suzie-Q and her ATROCIOUS anti-woman vote to confirm US Supreme Court justices, Alito & Roberts:
Oh, but here’s how the wingnuts who love war, torture, and starving children in America because they think money for welfare would be better spent on bombs, torture devices, chemical/biological weapons, and nukes to kill children in other countries! (CLICK HERE)

Why the wingnuts are so happy with Suzie-Q (from the Kansascity.com article above):
•The newly configured U.S. Supreme Court rejected a legal challenge in April to the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, allowing the law to go into effect for the first time since it was signed by President Bush in 2003. Some abortion-rights supporters fear the landmark ruling is the first step toward overturning the 1973 law legalizing abortion.
>
•Grand juries seated through citizen petitions are investigating Planned Parenthood of Overland Park and abortion provider George Tiller of Wichita.
>
•A new national study from the Guttmacher Institute shows abortions have dropped to their lowest level since 1974.
Thank you Susan Collins! Spit. Your constant catering to George W. Bush, the Fundamentalists, and the neocon wingnuts is your way of giving the finger to women in this country! I know, I know, because you stand for war, Bush/Cheney, and torture, you’d rather have women sticking coat hangers up their you-know-whatsys to slice open their cervix, so they’ll slowly bleed to death, isn’t that right, Suzie-Q?
Dumbass. You’re not a moderate Susan. You’re an EXTREME CATHOLIC. Scary!

Hmmm…so you approve of late-term abortions? At what point do you think the fetus becomes a child? Really, I’m just wondering; I have only a very limited opinion on the matter, so I’m curious.
The ruling on late-term abortions is the precursor for the complete annihilation of Roe v. Wade. Get it?
How many late-term abortions are done every year in this country? Not many! They’re rare and usually the circumstances around a woman having one is because the baby is dying or the mother is going to die or her life is in jeopardy.
I was just wondering, Kay. I thought that the latest version of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act included the Supreme Court mandated exceptions for medical health reasons. If that is the case, what is the problem – aside from your thought that this is a “slippery slope?”
I’m very doubtful man of these procedures are performed in America, but that fact cuts both ways. It could be a first step towards overturning Roe v. Wade, and it could be just good law in and of itself. I don’t think – if the provisions for medical necessity were included – this is a major issue.
BTW: I lean towards a pro-choice stance in law. while I think abortion is murder, enough of the populous doesn’t that I think the Law should stay neutral. Sometimes democracy sucks.
Jonolan, I think it’s safe to say…picturing a fetus being aborted in this fashion if the baby is near term is an image that is horrific in the minds of most Americans. Personally, it makes my stomach turn. Abortions done early on in the pregnancy are not the same as a late-term abortion, of course.
If I had wife whose life would be lost versus the unborn child, I would want my wife to live, even more so if their were other children in the family she needs to be there for. Government has no business being involved in the decision making between a woman, her physician, even her pastor. The Republicans used to be on the side of privacy but that was before the GOP was hijacked by the fundies and the neocons.
It has nothing to do with democracy. It has to do with a woman having a right to make medical decisions about her body and health. To some in America (the Fundies come to mind), “murder” is the act of taking stem cells off the embryo for crying out loud! LOL Murder to me is killing a living, breathing, human being OUTSIDE the womb. The fetus inside the mother is attached to the mother. They are one until the fetus comes out of the birth canal and the umbilical cord is cut.
Abortions should be rare in this country as far as I’m concerned, but if a woman (no matter the age) wants or needs an abortion, then she should be able to have one that is safe and uninterrupted by those who think they have MORE control over herself than she does.
That’s right Grant. If the mother’s life is in jeopardy and the fetus needs to be aborted to save her life, then so be it. If she desires, she can become pregnant again (well, that is if she’s healthy, of course). My adoptive mother had endrometreosis (it runs on my mother’s side of the family) so bad that she had a hysterectomy after my brother was born (that’s why they adopted my sister and I). If she had gotten pregnant again, her body would have naturally aborted it, because her pregnancy with my brother effected her health. She pretty much was on the couch during most of the pregnancy.
I think that I can sort of agree with that. As I said, I put my personal opinion aside when determining what I think the role of US law should be in this instance.
I agree with Grant but the thing I disagree with about abortion is that many use it as a form of birth control, because they were drunk and stupid one night or just don’t take responsibility for their actions. If there is a chance of a woman dying while giving birth or if a woman was raped, then I believe thats her right to choose.
True Uncle, but at the same time, men don’t wear condoms and aren’t taught to (unmanly they’re told by their friends and fathers). There would be less unwanted pregnancies if the men/boys of this country also took responsibility for themselves.
Most women have abortions during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (87%) and partial birth abortions in the third trimester amount to less than 1%. 62% have an abortion during the first 9 weeks.
• Fifty-eight percent of abortion patients say they would have liked to have had their abortion earlier. Nearly 60% of women who experienced a delay in obtaining an abortion attribute the delay to the time it took to make arrangements and raise money.
Governments make it harder by disallowing public monies for poor women.

Kay, I agree and didn’t mean for it to sound like I was singling out women. Both sexes need to be responsible.
shes probably thinking of ways to ban all abortion, except for republicans.
She is probably thinking of romance with Lieberman lol.
Heath Ledger is dead. RIP.
Notice how Queen Karol makes it seem like she is suffering the most grief from his passing?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
scott, after having lived through so many early deaths of famous personalities in the 60s and early 70s, this brings it all back. It is so unbelievably sad and such a waste.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~No Karol what is so unbelievably sad is your obsession to be loved by strangers, your lust to make yourself the center of attention by directing comments back to you, and your complete phoniness as an activist
OT: Does this comment make you want to laugh?

Anonymous, every thread – on this progressive blog- deals with injustice. This thread is honoring a great actor who has gone too soon.
So, STFU.

Oh yes, every thread at ABlog deals with injustice. You know like the injustice of Kucinich being black balled by the media, Kucinich being black balled by the DNC, possible voter fraud, Sibel Edmonds.
Go read last nights open thread on Heath Ledger. Again his death was tragic but my God, some over are saying how great he was. Read Glasses guys comments, cripes I think he might off himself over Ledgers death.
Grant, thanks for the statistics. I knew partial-birth abortions were rare. I bet it’s even less than 1%.
Exactly Chris. That’s how she thinks!
Ox, she dreams of the power she has with LIEberman. I don’t think she dreams of men when she’s having a romantic moment inside her brain.
Uncle, didn’t you know that Karol is the only one who has known suffering? You’d think being “tribal” she wouldn’t have known the names of actors & actresses who died. LOL! Oh that’s right. She has .000456 Native American in her, so therefore, she knows everything and feels everything!
Karol tries to be tough over there. It’s so laughable.
Did I know who Heath Ledger was? Nope. LOL My son came into the room when one of the news programs was talking about his death and my son thought he was the guy in Spiderman. See? Ooopsie.
Uncle, this one is by far my favorite Queen Native American All-Knowing Karol:
Ô¿Ô, when I begin to support Hillary or Obama if they are the Democrats choice, I hope you don’t throw it back in my face for supporting Edwards so passionately. I am going to be the best friend of the Democrat running against the Republican corruption machine.
An American Karol | Homepage | 01.23.08 – 1:34 am | #
Oh I can’t wait for Karol to be saying, “Okay fellow progressives! We must support Hillary’s desire to go to war with Iran! If she says Iran is a threat, then I believe her. We need more tax cuts too right now. Come on, progressives! Hillary needs our support right now!”.
She will too. And I can’t wait.
Kay, not only does Queen Karol support Edwards, she so passionately supports him. Did he travel to Fresno and is there a stain on one of Karols blue dresses. Oh goody Queen Karol is going to be the democratic nominee’s best friend, gee thats almost believable since she is everyones best friend over at that certain blog. Prediction: Queen Karol upon Edwards losing out while post a comment about how she cried over it.
I will be passionately writing in Dennis Kucinich’s name as I won’t vote for Shillary.
UFL..Why vote? I don’t think we would even have Susan Collins with fair elections. An executive in the company which counts our votes was convicted for cocaine traffiking. That particular crime shows a certain distance from your regular human feelings. They can’t even produce the memory cards for the recount in N.H. Same people count our votes in Maine as N.H.
# 11. There would be less unwanted pregnancies if the men/boys of this country also took responsibility for themselves.
Kay,
You are 100% correct with this statement! Sad, but so many men have been programmed most of their life to get as many “notches under their belt†as possible followed by a hearty pat on the back from his male peers when the deed is done, to heck with taking responsibility for the consequences.
Men bear no consequences throughout the lifespan.
Therefore, men have been (historically speaking) able to avoid being held responsible for controlling their irresponsible behaviors.
Condoms are hardly an effective means of preventing unwanted births, BTW–at best (if used effectively) they *may* fend off HIV and STD transmission.
It is the woman (only) who continues to accept being treated akin to enslaved chattel.
Enough.
We never budge on undermining an individual woman’s right to full personhood, autonomy, and privacy, folks.
*Never*
