He’s in. I’m not sure how I feel about this guy. On the one hand he will not say out loud that waterboarding is torture and that America should never use this torture technique or torture at all, but then again, when Mukasey was being interviewed for this position, Bob Gates did say this:

“It’s not a permitted technique in the army field manual and therefore no member of the US military is allowed to do it,” Gates told reporters, referring to the practice that has sparked controversy over the legality of interrogation methods.

“From the military standpoint, I wouldn’t expect military personnel to be involved in waterboarding,” added the new chairman of the US military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, Michael Mullen.

“It’s important for us to maintain a high ground with respect to activities involving detainees.”

See? This tells me that there is a glimmer of hope that Mukasey will do the right thing for the American people and for the reputation of our country. I could be wrong, but I think Mukasey didn’t want to jeopardize his chances in getting in to fix this abomination and scar on our country right now! Again, I could be wrong.

Besides, do we want George Bush & Dick Cheney completely running the Department of Justice if the Attorney General position is not filled? I don’t! They have had way too much control over it as we’ve witnessed over the years when Gonzales was in charge! Something tells me that Mukasey will be different. We’ll have to wait and see what he does. If he slips up once, guaranteed the American people will not let it rest!

I beg to differ. We are officially a terroist country. We can’t say oops…somebody there tortured…oops it happened again. Now it is sanctioned by the senate voting for an AG who not only is vague about international law against torture…he gives Bush the legal right to be above the law….can break the law without impunity. When Jean Hay Bright was running for senate…she said the people she talked to in Maine were more afraid of their own govt. than foreign threats. I agree.

To hell w/useless and duplicit Feinstein and Schumer, too.

2010 could be a rough go for them.

Cancel any and all glimmers of hope, pls.

  3. time to remove another knife from our back.. im running out of room back there.

All of the Dem prsidentials missed the vote. I’m extremely frustrated with that kind of behavior. I mean, we are talking about the USAG!! You’d think they’d be near for such an important vote. They need to be on record as opposing him. Until they are willing to go on record with their vote, how do I know it’s not just more lip service?

better be very careful about your comments there Margaret. Trash talking the Dem candidates may get you called a “jack boot licking reich winger who hates America and loves the baby killing Military” by KKKay!

Kucinich is in the House of Representatives! Woohoo! He has my vote, Margaret. (troll…she can trash talk the top 3 Democratic candidates all day long and it will make me happy! I can’t stand any of them. It’s Kucinich or bust for me. Ha ha.)

  7. Margaret says:

Well I’m certainly supporting Kucinich. Is there anybody else that is not an establishment Dem? Nope! I don’t have to trash talk the top Dems or the current leadership, they do a fine job of that themselves, thank you. :)

  8. kayinmaine says:

Bye the way! Hello Ms. Margaret! How are you tonight? I’m with you on Kucinich. Democracy for America just did a poll amongst REAL progressives in this country and he won 41 of 50 states! Cool, huh?

I’m not going to focus on the leadership of the Democratic Party. Why? Because it’s not forward thinking! Yes, they disappoint me, but if I constantly sat in the corner whining, pissing, and moaning about them, I would have no time to do anything else. LOL Bogs me down!

Kay, I believe that Mukasey thought he could do some good at Justice until after his first day of testimony. He got read the riot act that night by someone, widely speculated to be David Addington, and the next day all of his responses turned to mush. All the sudden the President could violate laws passed by Congress if he had a good reason. Waterboarding was maybe torture but until the president says I can look at the specifics its a moot question.

Be interesting to know the words the bushites whisper in ears that causes their eyes to glaze over and said humans become nazis instantly. Was surprised to hear Will Rogers died in a small plane crash. Anybody that criticizes the great democracy and has a little charisma BAM…lone gun man or small plane crash. I think this group of killers needs to be hunted down and jailed so we can have a good country. The only republican who was shot was Reagan and Bush Sr. would have been prez. if he had died. Torture bushes ’till they squeal.

I think the FBI will be very interested in that above comment and the ip it came from. It is a FELONY to make threats on the life of a sitting President. You’re going to Gitmo cunt! Tell Ahmed (when you are bending over grunting like the goat he prefers) I’m a coming for him!

There is no glimmer of hope here. The glimmer you thought you saw was the twinkling in Bush’s eyes at the thought of another of having yet another rubber-stamp, loyalist toady appointed to watch over the laws of the land.

This is a dark day for the country and for true patriots everywhere. Nothing good will come of it – mark my words.

Mukasey will be the worst Attorney General since the last moron appointed by this President.
