Why am I not surprised by this? Just like Enron, Goldman Sachs believing they were the smartest people in the room decided to cook Greece’s books to keep the people in the dark….all so they could benefit and no one else!
In 2001, Goldman’s financial alchemists formulated a scheme to allow the Greek government to hide the extent of its rising debt from the public and the European Community’s budget overseers. Under this diabolical deal, Goldman funneled new capital from super-wealthy investors into the government’s coffers.
Fine. Not so fine, though, is that, in exchange, Greek officials secretly agreed that the investors would get 20 years’ worth of the annual revenue generated by such public assets as Greece’s airports. For its part, Goldman pocketed $300 million in fees paid by the country’s unwitting taxpayers.
The financial giant dubbed its airport scheme “Aeolus,” after the ancient Greek god of the wind — and, sure enough, any long-term financial benefit for Greece was soon gone with the wind. By hiding the fact that the government’s future revenues had been consigned to secret investors, Goldman bankers made the country’s balance sheet look much rosier than it was, allowing Greek officials to keep spending like there was no tomorrow.
Last month, however, tomorrow arrived. Greece’s crushing debt has exploded into a full-blown crisis, with its leaders disgraced and the country on the precipice of the unthinkable: the default of a sovereign nation.
So, the next time you hear a right wing knuckle dragger screaming that Greece’s financial problems are because of “Obama styled socialism in Greece”, please set them straight! Goldman Sachs (”Enron styled capitalism!”) has been cooking the books for Greece for a very long time.
Maybe this is why President Obama kept Tim Geithner on in his Administration? To put the blame where it should be: ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE BUSH REGIME!

John Cornyn of Texas completely supported Bunning’s obstruction to allow unemployment benefits for Americans who after a year and a half still can’t find a job, but is now trying to backtrack himself when he found his skirt up over his shoulders and he wasn’t wearing any undies! Completely exposed for the right wing American-hater he is! These two Fat Cats were so impressed with each other with their rants against Americans….well….until the backlash against Bunning and the republic party started. For good reason too! The republic party only cares about the well-being and financial stability of the CEO’s of America’s corporations. That’s it. That is all they care about! When you have ONE republican Senator who is most likely a millionaire obstructing a bill that will extend unemployment benefits (how much are these weekly checks? I bet Bunning & Cornyn make this amount within the first 15 minutes of every day!) to average Americans who are struggling themselves to keep their families and lives afloat, you know damn well that ONE republican senator is speaking for the whole entire republican party, because that is the ideology of this political party! The fact that Cornyn is now backtracking on his words does not mean the republic party has suddenly found a soul. They haven’t! The republic party has no soul and never will. The End.

Some Americans truly are stupid and it makes me sad that a couple of them are my friends on Facebook! *shudder* Anyway, I spent some time last night pointing out to the dummies that Haiti is extremely poor, their government is pretty much gone, and we as Americans must help them. Hell, it was the Haitian government that asked us to bring our military down there because they need us! The friend who originally posted her diatribe ended up doing a post apologizing to all she offended. Damn straight she did! I honestly don’t understand where the heart of Americans have gone. Apparently “Americans are barbarians” has stuck with them after 8 years of George Bush! Gees.
Our nation had 8 years of blatant fascism under George Bush and we’ve had a one year reprieve thanks to President Obama being in the White House, but what is most disturbing is an Animal Farm Revolution is underway again where the animals are demanding to go back to those 8 years of fascism because they believe it’s better and they’ll be happier! How many times do we have to tell the imbeciles of our country that whenever we have a republican president in the White House our nation goes into a recession, our money ends up missing in huge clumps, and we end up miserable and suffering? Give me a Democratic president who is bonking an intern in the Oval Office while creating 22 million jobs or a president who knows that one false move to the financial sector could cause Wall Street to retaliate could hurt us and that it’s going to take years to fix the messes George Bush wrought on our nation (slow progress is better than no progress!)! George Bush gave a speech recently at the university in Texas where his presidential library of lies will be housed. He told the audience that he has kept his values since leaving the White House and he always led America with OUR best interests in mind. Then he lists out his principles, “…free markets open the path to opportunity, that a successful society requires personal responsibility, that freedom is universal and transformative, and that every human life has dignity and value.”.

Really George? Free markets open up the path to opportunity? Well now, wasn’t it free market capitalism that allowed the banks to take risks they never would have with regulations in place? Or why the housing market crashed under you or how the credit card industry is still out of control because they feel they’re free to capitalize on bad situations? Huh asshole?
And what’s that you say about how a society is only successful when it takes personal responsibility? Hey George, how about driving yourself to the Hague to turn yourself in for the war crimes you commited, huh? And George? Freedom to you was changing the laws of our nation to suit yourself so you could torture, kill, and hold people indefinitely for crimes that you refused to divulge (and you even bought some of the prisoners from the country of Pakistan to fill up your prisons to make it appear like you were ‘tough on terror’!). I read THIS ARTICLE last night and sighed out-loud as if I hadn’t exhaled for years. Yes, you can blame the last few years of Clinton (his Congress was controlled by the republicans) for allowing the deregulation of Credit Default Swaps/derivitives or you can blame Reagan for starting the whole mess, but what happened under George Bush was maddening when it came to the financial stability of our nation and it was during those 8 years where the whole economy spun out of control to the point we can’t even find it at the moment. American materialism didn’t help either and it escalated during this time and it was all based on “who could be more patriotic than their neighbors!” bullshit that George Bush spewed (along with Fox News of course!) daily.
Yes, Obama signed on to some of these economic policies this year from last year.

My fear is what transpired under the Bush Free For All Years is not easily fixable (0r not fixable at all)….unless there is a complete collapse where our nation would be forced to start fresh. What happens then if there is a complete crash? As we liberals all said under George Bush, it would result in $12 loaves of bread, bare shelves, starvation and mass depression. That didn’t happen under him, of course, but that is by design. When $550,000,000,000,000 was taken out of the money markets last September 2008 in an hour and a half, George’s idea was to bailout the banks and not the American people, because why help the people when it’s been he who has said for years that everything is fine (as did CNBC too!)? George Bush right up until the end of his tenure was still positive about the economy and it’s only been since President Obama took office that Americans are finally hearing some truth about how bad it got. Hell, we’re experiencing it right now. It’s this truth that has made Americans to stop spending. We’re like squirrels right now….gathering our food and preparing because it’s gonna be a rough winter and if we don’t stock up then we will die!
Recently a guy I went to high school with and I became Facebook friends. All we have talked about in the chat feature is the state of the economy. He’s very worried about things. It appears under the George Bush years his job as a high end furniture salesman was strong. Well, he thought it was. Then the housing market slowly started crashing and by the end of last year, he felt the impact of it all. He asked me how I was doing and wondered if the Big Crash (that he believes is still yet to come) would effect me. I told him that because I’ve lived simply for the last two decades, that for me…..the Big Crash will feel like stepping off the sidewalk onto the street and won’t be felt like some who will feel like they’ve fallen off the cliff.
He’s having to readjust his life in ways that he thought he never would have to. He said he’s more of a homebody now than ever. Sounds like my life, but then again, I did not get sucked into the Materialism Madness that enveloped our country over those 8 years. Lots did and they’re hurting now. Hell, some of them will most likely feel like they’re stepping off the sidewalk onto the street like me, because they have lost just about everything! For some though, they’re in denial. They won’t be able to survive a huge crash. Hell, I may not be able to either. As Frank Rich points out, Americans would feel a lot better if some of the perpetrators who sank our economy were arrested, brought to trial and then given a life sentence. He’s right. If the world came crashing down around us, wouldn’t it make you feel better that before it did those who were ultimately responsible for this huge gigantic mess were held accountable? It won’t put food on the table or put gas in the tank, but it sure would feel better knowing they were having to eat off plastic trays for the rest of their lives!

But I know this is a Democratic event. And I want to talk to all of you just for a second. You know, there are going to be some fierce arguments over the next couple of weeks about health care. There should be. This is big. But understand that the bill you least like of the five bills that got passed would all provide billions of people who don’t have coverage, coverage. Would all prevent insurance companies from barring you from getting health insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Would all set up an exchange so that small businesses could compete and get the same deal that big businesses do for their employees. Would all provide subsidies to people who don’t have health insurance and give them a measure of security. All of them.
So as we’re going at it — and we’re going to be going at it –- I just want all of you to understand: We are going to get this done. We are going to get this done.
Now, to the non-Democrats who may be watching today -– I want everybody to know we believe in a strong and loyal opposition. I believe in a two-party system where ideas are tested and assumptions are challenged — because that’s how we can move this country forward. But what I reject is when some folks decide to sit on the sidelines and root for failure on health care or on energy or on our economy. What I reject is when some folks say we should go back to the past policies when it was those very same policies that got us into this mess in the first place.
Another way of putting it is when, you know, I’m busy and Nancy busy with our mop cleaning up somebody else’s mess –- we don’t want somebody sitting back saying, you’re not holding the mop the right way. Why don’t you grab a mop, why don’t you help clean up. You’re not mopping fast enough. That’s a socialist mop. Grab a mop –- let’s get to work.
I think all of us in Washington have a greater purpose. We have a higher calling. And let me tell you, as long as I have the privilege of holding this office, I will do my very best to live up to my responsibilities to our country, to our children, to the future that we hold in common
Republicans are lazy, whereas, it’s always been us Democrats (socialists/liberals…call us whatever you want!) who will grab the mop first to start cleaning up the mess. It’s the republicans who sit on the sidelines belittling those who are mopping, who are not helping, and who think the place looked fine before everyone started cleaning!

Well, “someone” licked her finger, put it in the political winds, and has now decided after she quit her Governorship (quitters are winners!)……that it will be a very profitable move for HER to be against cap-and-trade now! See? Isn’t that nice? We’ll have to remember this if Sarah-The-Flip-Flopping-Buffoon runs in 2012!

And to those industries who are crying, “But we can’t afford to update! It’s too expensive”, FUCKING BUDGET FOR IT, you know, do what companies always do when they know they’re going to have to spend a large amount of cash in the following year: START SETTING ASIDE MONEY TODAY TO BE USED FOR THE FUTURE AND IF YOU HAVE TO……REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE CEO’S BONUSES FOR THAT YEAR! It’s very simple. We all do this sort of thing, don’t we? And if powerful Alaskans are for cap-and-trade, why wouldn’t the rest of the nation be?
