Wow. This was something to hear today that Bill Clinton’s visit resulted in Kim Jong-Il to release Laura Ling & Euna Lee from prison to return home. I just saw the two of them getting on the airplane in North Korea just now. They both look so relieved!
One thing we can always say about President Clinton is that he is a weapon of mass diplomacy! Always has been. Of course, last year during the presidential race I was livid with him and Hillary because of their behavior. That said, I was ecstatic when President Obama put Hillary in as Secretary of State because she is well known throughout the world and respected, so it didn’t surprise me that Hillary (I’m assuming she did….seems most likely!) decided to have her husband contact the North Korean government to get these two journalists home. Whether the right wingers want to admit it or not, you can’t deny that President Clinton is well-respected throughout the world! He always viewed the world as one and just like President Obama now….he knows the best way to find common ground with your enemies is to reach out to them. Watching Kim Jong-Il today on the tv was interesting. He seemed to be on Cloud 9 around President Clinton. Makes you wonder if Clinton promised vodka to start flowing back into North Korea soon! LOL I have no idea.

He’s right and before you go making fun of Joe’s “illogical” statement, let’s not forget it’s Sarah Palin and other republicans who are saying we need to stop paying the government to increase revenue! Yeah, yeah…receiving less money means it’ll be easier to pay the bills! Spit.

So which statement is right? Does it make sense for our government to continue to receive less tax revenue to fund it or does it make sense to spend more of the stimulus money on the streets to create jobs, which in turn, will create more tax revenue to our government? You decide. I’m going with Joe Biden’s way of thinking because the old business adage of ‘we have to spend money to make money’ is the only way to get our nation out of debt. Creating jobs, reducing the cost of healthcare/insurance, reducing spending (such as NASA!), and taxing the higher tier has always worked!
Been done for years….
Ronald Reagan spent, taxed, and never reduced spending. Same with George H.W. Bush when he was president…and he even tried starting a war in Iraq at the end too in the hopes to jump start the economy (we were in recession under him and Reagan) and to help himself get reelected. During these two presidencies, our nation did not fail. We were already trillions in debt thanks to the Reagan years. Then came Bill Clinton who raised taxes, spent, reduced spending in some areas, but the key to turning the economy around under him was in creating jobs which he did to the tune of 22 million. Our nation had a surplus after the Clinton years and then George Bush came along. George Bush didn’t tax the rich, he spent like a drunken sailor on two wars and for the uber wealthy, he didn’t reduce spending, he increased the size of government, he ignored the signs the banking/housing industry was collapsing, and after 8 years of doing this, our economy is failing. We now have President Obama in office who wants to do what Clinton, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush did which is tax those who can afford it, spend money wisely to create jobs, reduce spending over time, and regulate the banking industry where needed to close the loopholes that are damaging progress.
The next time you hear someone say, “The only way to increase the size of my bank account is to reduce my pay!”, you tell them they’re stupid.
There is good spending and bad spending. Good spending would be in creating jobs. Bad spending would be borrowing trillions from China for two wars and to help America’s wealthy not pay their fair share of the taxes and then telling the rest of America to screw off. The End.
Today I heard the report that one of our soldiers had been captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The news report said he had ‘wandered’ off and was captured a few hours later. Interesting…why would ONE soldier wander away from the rest of the unit? Was he forced out by the other soldiers for a reason? If so, what would the reason be? According to World AP, this soldier did not take his gun with him when he decided to leave, but did take his journal on his little ‘journey’ [emphasis mine]…
KABUL, Afghanistan — A U.S. soldier who inexplicably walked off his barren military base earlier this week was captured by Taliban militants hours later, U.S. military officials said Thursday. It’s believed to be the first time insurgents here have captured a U.S. serviceman in the almost-eight-year war.
The private first class, who was based in Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border, didn’t show up for formation on Tuesday. When fellow soldiers went to his quarters, they found his weapon, but his journal was missing, officials in Kabul told McClatchy Newspapers. Hours later, U.S. military officials received a phone call saying that the soldier had been kidnapped outside the base, a senior military official said. It’s not clear whether any demands were made.
Is it possible he was dragged off by a bunch of right wing neck drooling Bush-supporting knuckle dragging bigots? Could be! The military is not releasing the name of this soldier for “fear” the Taliban aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way in Afghanistan will use his name as a way to get at us! Yep. That’s what the military wants us to believe. Why am I suddenly thinking of Pat Tillman and his journal? Huh. And why am I cringing after reading the following article over on Think Progress tonight…entitled….‘GAY SOLDIER DEAD’, you know, a gay soldier killed by another soldier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spit.
CONCLUSION: “DON’T ASK DON’T TELL” IS KILLING OUR SOLDIERS AND IS NOT PROTECTING THEM FROM VIOLENCE BY OTHER SOLDIERS! It’s such a travesty. Shame on Clinton, Bush, and Obama for keeping this atrocious legislation legal and viable!

Judge rules governor must hand over phone records
Gov. Jim Gibbons’ phone records will be handed over to the woman who accused him of assault in the run-up to the 2006 gubernatorial election, a federal judge ruled this week.
Federal magistrate judge Peggy Leen rejected Gibbons [of Nevada] request for a protective order preventing Chrissy Mazzeo from obtaining his phone records.
Her attorney earlier had subpoenaed the phone records from the Clark County district attorney’s office.
The agency kept Gibbons’ phone records and other documents in connection with a 2006 police investigation into Mazzeo’s claims that Gibbons assaulted her in a parking garage after a night of drinking. Leen ordered the records be turned over to Mazzeo by July 3.
The governor of the state made famous in part for its quick, private divorces is now embroiled in a breakup so tawdry, so publicly spectacular and so potentially grueling that how it plays out could have implications from Carson City to the White House.
Gov. Jim Gibbons of Nevada, a first-term Republican, had hoped to minimize the publicity surrounding his divorce from Dawn, his wife of 22 years, by convincing a Reno judge to seal the records per a state law that allows either party to do so.
What he may not have expected was that Mrs. Gibbons, 54, would file her own 33-page motion to draw attention to longstanding rumors: that she believes the governor is having an extramarital relationship with the wife of a Reno podiatrist.
