“Now You Get Mad?!”

The following is going around Facebook right now (and it just popped up on Think Progress too tonight!), so I thought I’d share it with you all. It’s a good one! Original author unknown.

Now You’re Mad?!

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate
Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.

You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn’t get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn’t get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn’t get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn’t get mad when Bush said he wasn’t concerned about Bin Laden, just a few months after 911.

You didn’t get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn’t get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the filthy rich, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

You didn’t get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn’t get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens died over an 8-year period because they had no health insurance.

You didn’t get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick…oh hell no.

  1. Wow, cool, thanks. I may have to steal it from you and share it with my readers too….they may all be your readers who just humor me by coming over to my site. I only wish I was as cool as you. K. :)

    • Yes Jim! Share this with everyone! Spread it around to piss off the embarrassed republican teabaggers. I totally love that Jim….even if it’s my readers reading it on your blog! LOL

  2. Yup, that pretty much sums up the vacuous teabagger position.

Endless pissing and moaning about the Obama administration making our country a Fascist/Marxist/Socialist (pick one) dictatorship; yet nary a peep as the shrub criminal gang does exactly that, in plain sight. I just can’t wrap my head around this sort of disconnect from reality.

I can, however, understand the source. By way of example I today’s visit by an old acquaintance who showed up at the shop with a car issue. We have always had polar opposite viewpoints, and there have been times when our discussions became downright unpleasant. Today, after the obligatory “how’s everybody, we’re fine” platitudes, we again tried to discuss current events and today’s political climate. This woman has completely lost her fucking mind, having become a vocal cheerleader for Moosolini and her absurd sidekick Bachmann, calling the queen of the Iquitterod “brilliant.” Oh, and Beck is, of course a visionary.

I called her attention to Bachmann’s hypocrisy, in that she rails against the federal government while, at home in Minnesota, the family business – Bachmann Farms – continues to receive tens of thousands of dollars in federal subsidies. The response was to call Obama inarticulate, that Failin would have been a far better president, and that nobody comes close to St. Ronnie of Raygun anyway.

I pointed out to her that Raygun’s “trickle down economics” was the beginning of a total war against the middle class, caused a 2 year recession which was (until presently) considered the worst since the great depression, that Raygun’s union-busting policies and outsoucing of American jobs killed American manufacturing, that he doubled the national deficit in his first term, and that he should have been impeached for Iran-Contra. The completely delusional responses, the spouting of rethug talking points, the changing of the subject, the whole experience was mind-numbing.

And so it went, with the only point of agreement being our shared hatred of bankers and Wall St. crooks (BTW, she works for BofA), but even that went down the tubes when I voiced my displeasure over the senate rethug leadership meeting, behind closed doors, with Wall St. banking execs.

Folks, this is what we’re up against. It’s as though they were a different species. Completely unreceptive to factual argument; blindly, stubbornly clinging to discredited policy positions; yet outraged at the fact that a black man sits in the white house, and has the nerve to try to make things a little less miserable for the people who’ve been fucked over for decades.

The face of insanity, the “intellect” of mass willful delusion.

    • William, last week when this was going around Facebook, I posted it on my page for my friends to read. Of course, there are a couple of neck drooling knuckledraggers on my FB page and one said in response to this rant, “Wha? Too long to read first thing in the morning!!!”.

See? The teabaggers are lazy people. They don’t like to read, therefore, they remain the stupid part of our society who worship Glenn Bleck, Bible Spice, and Michele BachMonster!

    • Racism makes people blind and unreasonable, the reason all the teabagger angst raised so quickly, overnight, to such shrill and vile rhetoric SINCE we elected a black president. The problems we face as a nation were ALREADY there for Obama to inherit. The racists are livid that a black family is “allowed” to live in the “people’s house!” It’s racism plain and simple.

In my 70 years, even witnessing the problems during the 1960′s when we had assassinations, college students murdered by the government, have I seen our nation in such a sad place. I notice Noam Chomsky, from my generation that was born during the Great Depression, confirmed what I have been saying for some time in a speech at the University of Wisconsin recently. Chomsky said:

“I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime. I am old enough to remember the 1930s. My whole family was unemployed. There were far more desperate conditions than today. But it was hopeful. People had hope. The CIO was organizing. No one wants to say it anymore but the Communist Party was the spearhead for labor and civil rights organizing. Even things like giving my unemployed seamstress aunt a week in the country. It was a life. There is nothing like that now. The mood of the country is frightening. The level of anger, frustration and hatred of institutions is not organized in a constructive way. It is going off into self-destructive fantasies.

I listen to talk radio. I don’t want to hear Rush Limbaugh. I want to hear the people calling in. They are like [Austin IRS suicide pilot] Joe Stack. What is happening to me? I have done all the right things. I am a God-fearing Christian. I work hard for my family. I have a gun. I believe in the values of the country and my life is collapsing.”

  3. Pretty much everything that happened on the Bush watch was bad for the people and made me mad. But now people who don’t even know me are calling me a right wing neocon because I don’t like what President Obama did with raising my cigarette taxes by over a dollar a pack. Seems like the prejudice comes just as much from the supporters as it comes from the haters.

      • Before the election he said he wouldn’t raise taxes on people making less than 250,000 a year. I’ll be lucky to make that much in ten years. Them politician guys never tell the truth. I know it ain’t going to happen but I sure would like to see every member of the executive and the legislative arms unemployed.

        • He was talking about income taxes or were you not paying attention again? Seems that the right wingers listened to and watched President Obama’s 2008 run for the presidency with their fingers in their ears and their hands over their eyes. Seriously, where have you people been? Let me guess….you didn’t take an interest in politics until Caribou Barbie got in the race, you know, the dumbest person to ever be picked for the VP in our history?

I personally would like to see the republic party disbanded and sent to Saudi Arabia since their views are much more in line with them than with America.

          • No really that’s all I remember. No tax increases for people making under 250K. I don’t remember him saying income taxes specifically I thought it was just taxes in general. Goes to show you how much I really listened eh?

Caribou Barbie = Sara Pallin. Okay I get that but what’s it got to do with anything else? Sara Pallin is a idiot plain as day. So what and wyh you smack me down about her?

Oh and you have to mention smoking to huh? Now I’m going to get ugly and say “FUCK YOU” for your antismoking thinking. As a smoker I pay for childrens health care (CHIP) in every state inkluding the states I never even smoked in. I got to pay more for my insurance than soembody who don’t smoke and I don’t bitch. But you nonsmokers think you are just better peepole and got to harras us.

            • Wow Erin. You pay for everyone now? And you’re worried about paying an extra $7 a week on your cigarettes? But you’re rich if you’re paying for everyone, right Erin?

        • President Obama did NOT raise taxes on you,

YOU did by using your freedoms to buy an unhealthy product and the added tax in you down payment on the future needed medical care for the problems smoking causes.

You chose to do an unhealthy thing, and just like the private market based insurance which charges smokers more money for their insurance, the president is just making you pay the higher premiums you will have because of the unhealthy lifestyle choice you have made.

I know this because both my grandfathers died from smoking related causes, one from lung cancer the other from emphysema.

Quit bitching for the choices you make, the president didn’t raise my taxes because I am not stupid enough to waste my money burning it up in smoke.

  4. Since smokers help to greatly increase medical care costs due to cancers, heart problems, the taxes help to keep Medicare/Medicaid, VA care from going bankrupt. Taxes are most responsible for making people reconsider their habit and QUIT! I quit 25 years ago at age 40 (went cold turkey after two failed attempts) and the doctor says my lungs are normal for someone 70 years old. The same reasoning for the coming tax on tanning beds since skin cancer is on the rise. But expect Rep. Boner fight to repeal that one!!!

    • Hey Grant. If you quit 25 years ago at age 40 you would be 65 today. Yet you repeatedly claim to be in your 70′s. I’m not accusing you of lying but I hope they soon find a better balanced medication mix for you. In some cases it is acceptable to blame the drugs.

      • Poor Erin. Now she’s going after Grant’s actual age because she’s mad at Obama for adding a $1 to her cigarette pack. Seriously Erin, are you insane like all the teabaggers are? You seem to be. You’re embarrassed because George Bush destroyed our nation financially and diplomatically, so you’re just lashing out in all directions to make yourself feel better.

It’s none of your business how old Grant is. We don’t even give a crap how old you are, but something is telling us you are you have the mental capacity of Sarah Bible Spice Palin!

        • I didn’t technically lie as I did quit in 1980 at age 40. I finally quit in 1985 when I was 45. Plus for many years I felt like I was 40 Some folks never get older than 39…even my 78 year old sister!

I started smoking regularly at age 16 when Camels were 22 cents a pack, smoked up to three packs a day at one time. I first quit in 1974 at age 34 because I was out of a job and POOR. However, I went back to smoking in 1975 while living on an Israeli military base in the BORING Sinai Desert. Seemed everyone smoked there and Israelis tend to always offer anyone around them a cigarette when they reach for a pack. Also, the top Israeli brands like Noblesse and Time, was much cheaper than American cigarettes and I was being paid $50K plus room/board/travel so could afford what was like 25 cents U.S. for a pack of domestic smokes.

I took up smoking again during the night of Hurricane Alicia staying at a friend’s house who had a carton of Camel’s on his frig and the winds outside were 125 mph. Then when I saw my Galveston home flattened and spread all over an acre two days later, when I had to fight Allstate for six months before seeing a dime, I continued to smoke to settle nerves. But having a colostomy in 1985 and a cancer scare, I quit then FOR GOOD!

But I am always impressed with TROLLS like Erin who nit pick. Did I make any typos/spelling mistakes Erin? Anything to divert attention from the topic which is what trolls do best.

Tobacco has been taxed by the federal government since Alexander Hamilton first levied them in 1794 (even later by the Confederate States of America!). Federal tax was raised to $1.0066 a pack after a Republican majority Senate raised them from $0.39 in 2007. They were increased from $0.24 under Clinton in 2000 to $0.39 under Bush in 2002. BTW, Obama smokes so he is taxing himself!!!

Last year Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont and Wisconsin all raised their cigarette taxes. So far this year the REPUBLICANS who control the legislatures in Florida, Kansas, Utah have raised their state taxes $1.00 a pack! South Carolina Republicans just voted to raise their taxes by 50 cents up to $0.57!

          Tax and spend Republicans!!!!

          • For Marlboro’s here in Maine you’re paying over $7 a pack. South of here I’m told? They’re paying like $3/pack! (a friend of mine from South Carolina said that is what their cigarettes cost, but I think he smokes Salem menthols).

  5. I wanted to watch our President give his eulogy this morning for Dr. Dorothy Height at the National Cathedral. Since MSNBC was having a sound problem on my TV, I switched to CNN which was transmitting better audio. But I also checked out Faux News and they were in the middle of a commercial before going to a story about the “99.9% reality” that Evangelical “scientists” have found “Noah’s Ark” in Turkey!!!

Not giving air time to Dr. Dorothy Height says a lot about the racism at Faux News which evidently doesn’t think honoring one of the great leaders of our nation’s Civil Rights movement (but often unsung maybe due to being a woman) is worth devoting a few minutes to reporting about her funeral. And of course, they hate to show OUR PRESIDENT speaking! After all he is a commie, Nazi, Kenyan who is illegitimate!! /snark!

Faux was gaga reporting the “ark” fragments were found at 13,000 above sea level on Mt. Ararat. IF the earth had flooded to that great height, where did all that water come from and where did it go so quickly?? A fundamental law of physics is that “matter cannot be created nor destroyed” but fundies could care less about REAL science. The fundie “scientists” claim that carbon dating “confirms” the wood fragments are from 4,800 years ago, again a date which almost perfectly coincides with the Bible’s account of the floods and the time that they took place. The “Great Flood” is one of the most outrageous fairy tales found in the Bible.
