murtha

Oh man. This is just so sad. My heart goes out to his family and his constituents he worked hard for and took care of all these years. He will be missed. Rep. Jack Murtha died from complications after having gallbladder surgery.

By the way….haven’t we been hearing for at least a year now from the right wingers that America’s health care system is the best in the world, but yet, Rep. Jack Murtha goes in for gallbladder surgery and is now dead from complications? What gives? Can you imagine if Rep. Jack Murtha was just a regular Joe who had no insurance because he made too much money to qualify for Medicaid, was too young to get Medicare, and ended up in the hospital for gallbladder surgery and then died? Wow! His family would be left with a gigantic hospital bill for sure! Oh wait. The right wingers are fine with this. They hate the idea of reform or the government offering Americans like Regular Joe a cheaper alternative than what the private health insurance companies are!

  2. If the best health care in the world is not found in the USA then why did Teddy Kennedy and Jack Murtha seek help in the USA?

They both sought help in the USA because they both knew the best health care in the world is found here in the USA.

“Rep. Jack Murtha goes in for gallbladder surgery and is now dead from complications?”

Even with the best care in the world, when you number is up, you’ll go. I spent 42 days in the hospital from complications following bypass surgery. I’m just glad that the doctors kept on giving me the best care possible w/o some bureaucratic bean counter intervening with a cost analysis opinion that I wasn’t worth the cost. Under the British or Canadian Heath Care Service , I would have been made “as comfortable as possible” with morphine… probably with a dose strong enough to “end my suffering”.

Expensive? You bet!! I’ve never made more that $30K a year any year of my working life, but I always made the sacrifices needed to obtain the best insurance I could afford and I didn’t need nanny government to do it.

Life is full of choices and compromises, and far too many in our population have relinquished the responsibility of making those choices to the State.

Do we need health reform? Damn right we do! But the first step should be in limiting the actions of the tort lawyers and allowing insurance companies to REALLY compete across State lines, and not allowing ILLEGAL aliens to be treated through the largess of OUR tax dollars.

We have the best doctors in the world, but we have the suckiest health insurance system. That said….I find it so unfortunate that Rep. Murtha died from gallbladder surgery. His heart was most likely weak considering his age, but gees….gallbladder surgery? So sad!

  5. My sister-in-law almost died from gall bladder surgery but it was because she was bleeding internally. The surgeon went back in because her vitals were dropping and she was full of blood. If he hadn’t gone back in, she would be dead right now. He did it because he is cocky, he “knew” he didn’t do anything wrong so he went back in to prove it. Good thing.

    • kayinmaine says:

Wow Jim. TRUE STORY: my parents have been married for over 50 years now and a few years ago they BOTH had gallbladder surgery within a week of each other. Isn’t that a riot? They’ve eaten pretty much every meal together, so it was funny to learn their gallbladders ’shit the bed’ in the same week! LOL Neither one had complications or anything go wrong.

  6. Intellectual Conservative says:

As I have said elsewhere ….. as Murtha wakes up in Hell I take pleasure from the visual of Satan saying to him ‘Welcome to the first day of Eternity, Congressman’

  7. We have the best doctors in the world, but we have the suckiest health insurance system.

Suckiest? Really? Compared with where? Are you saying that they have better health insurance in Haiti? In Somalia?

I’ve got great health insurance and I don’t want it screwed with.

  8. Gabriel says:

First that drunk Kennedy and now Murtha …… there really is a God.

  9. kayinmaine says:

Hey, I thought you right wingers were the ones with all the inner compassion when it came to someone dying and you’re always telling us liberals to be compassionate when one of yours dies? Huh. Liars!

  10. Bearclaw Grislap says:

Murtha brought many foreign defense contractors to the U.S. helping them establish big factories in PA. A bunch of work has spun off here in Maine making weapons…he helped the economy…

    • kayinmaine says:

Yes he did, Bearclaw. Last night I attended a pizza-party fundraiser for Congressman Mike Michaud and when the topic of Murtha was brought up, Michaud made sure to point out how much Murtha worked behind the scenes for the people of Maine.

  11. atlanta ralph says:

Kay, It was government medicine not private.

He had his surgery at a military hospital, they are government run you know.

  12. atlanta ralph says:

I believe the Naval Hospital is government run so that kinda shoots down your statement Kay.

Wonder what they will name his airport, you know the one that we spent millions to build that longer runway for those two flights a day.
Maybe they could call it Pigs Alley after the KING of PORK.

  13. ereck says:

Thank God, the asshole’s dead. To me he did’nt die quick enough, somebody should have wasted him years ago.

  14. Susquehanna Kevin says:

Regardless of who pays for health care it’s ridiculously overpriced.

    We’re getting screwed.

A few years back I was bitten by a potentially rabid animal.

It was too late in the evening to see my regular doctor so I had to go the ER.

A nurse gave me a tetanus shot.

    No doctor.
    No tests.
Just a nurse and a tetanus shot.

    The bill was over $1,300.

But they have to charge that to offset the cost of lawsuits right?

A couple years later I went to the “Health Campus” of this hospital to take a physical for a job.

    It was immaculate.

It looked like the hanging gardens of Babylon with a two story indoor waterfall.

    Yeah, they’re just scraping by.

  15. kayinmaine says:

Ereck, some wish Sarah Palin would die the same way.

  16. ereck says:

Yeah Gabriel, Thank God, we need more of these slimy communist demoshits croak off.

    • kayinmaine says:

Ereck, do you have your Bush-shaped dildo in sideways today? Seems like it, because you want to kill everything. Are you a right wing fringer like this guy:

      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25872864/

      I bet!

You neocons make our nation dangerous. You’re DOMESTIC TERRORISTS!

    • kayinmaine says:

What our nation really needs is to gather up all the domestic terrorists (Sarah Palin/Scott Brown supporters which are FASCISTS) and jail them for the rest of their lives. Let them kill each other in prison while the rest of us live out our lives. Better yet, let the RAPTURE HAPPEN! Take up all the right wing fringer jesus freaks! That would be great.

  17. Grant says:

My brother nearly died of a stroke caused by gall bladder complications last fall. Any surgery is dangerous but I also think the “world class” Houston hospital also screwed up letting him lose 5 pints of blood overnight before catching the bleeding then blood thickeners applied caused a clotting problem, thus the stroke. He was lucky to be in the hospital but still can´t talk very well.

When I broke my arm in London last year got immediate treatment and drugs, all free without even asking to see my passport. Since returning home have had $60,000 worth of bills, not all covered by Medicare or Aetna, so shelling out too. Funny as I travel the world don´t hear Europeans or Canadians complain about their healthcare.

    • kayinmaine says:

Hi Grant! Hope you’re having a great time! :-)

The trolls have been given their marching orders as you’ve noticed. Michael Steele must have shooed them out from under the front porch of the RNC this morning! LOL

  18. Government run medical care…

  19. ereck says:

k, I’ve got my Bush shaped dildo in the old conventional way and no, I don’t want to kill everything, just you’re kind. lol

  20. ereck says:

I never threatened you, I said your kind.

    • kayinmaine says:

Sarah Palin loves America so much that she’s married to Todd who wants Alaska to secede from the nation and is also supporting Rick Perry of Texas, you know, the governor who wants Texas to secede from the nation! See?

You came to my blog in a threatening manor. You are a threat now whether you want to believe it or not. Okay pal?

  21. ereck says:

I think thats a good idea, Texas and Alaska, actually alot of other states, not all southern. Sorry if I’m a threat, I just don’t like your kind.

  22. ereck says:

I hate you, whatever you call yourselves, what do you call yourselves? Our Constitution has had my number for ages and rewards me regularly.

    • kayinmaine says:

Yes, you are rewarded with FREE SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. Are you a Commie? By the way, the Constitution states a census should be done on the nation. Are you looking forward to filling our the census form which is your obligation as a U.S. citizen to do?

  23. ereck says:

I gather you’re not getting any FREE SOCIALIZED MEDICENE, so why not go to north korea to get it? Maybe cuba, russia, etc.

  24. Grant says:

Don´t get online much due to traveling but see the Chickenhawks are here to besmirch the life of Rep. John Murtha. These cowards aren´t even fit enough to shine his MILITARY BOOTS!!!

BTW, see that former Texas Rep. Charlie Wilson died today. The movie about him was out a year or two back with Tom Hanks playing his part. Wilson was in part responsible for the USA to fund the mujaheddin in Afghanistan to oust the Soviets. We got them well trained then they turned into the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Why can´t our nation leave well enough alone? The Russians were going bankrupt fighting that war anyway, which may also be our downfall.

  25. Gabriel says:

Actually kay I pay about $300 a month in health insurance, last year my wife had breast cancer and last month I had a heart attack and I must say I am more then pleased with the health care we had and with my insurance. There is nothing wrong with the system it just needs a few minor tweaks.

I will fill out the census form where it asks how many live at the address and race, after that I mail it back, thats all they need.

    • kayinmaine says:

For those that don’t have health insurance because they can’t afford $300/month, they can’t afford to pay for an annual checkups in addition to all the testing and hospital stays/specialists if needed.

I can’t wait to fill out the Census! It’s my civic duty to.

  26. Gabriel says:

Thats right kay fix it for those who need the help but leave my insurance alone.

  27. atlanta ralph says:

That is called Medicaid and it is paid for by the taxpayer.

The census should be very short.
How many people living in your home.______

  28. Gabriel says:

My insurance is through my employer its a benefit of having an education and getting a decent job.

    • kayinmaine says:

Yes, insurance through an employer is affordable. Wait until you lose your job and have to pay your COBRA! You’ll drop that “sucky” insurance faster than you can say ‘boo’! But hey, you’ve not had a catastrophic injury or illness yet and are using your insurance for annual checkups. What a schmuck! Ask the Americans in our country who are close to bankruptcy because of their medical bills after getting sick or losing their job & then getting sick!

  29. Grant in Texas says:

California’s largest for-profit health insurer, Anthem Blue Cross, is moving to dramatically raise rates for customers with individual policies, setting off a furor among policyholders and prompting state insurance regulators to investigate.

Maybe they think they have defeated healthcare!
