Flying Air Force One over the Statue of Liberty today was a stupid idea

First off, it doesn’t appear that President Obama knew about Air Force One being flown over the Statue of Liberty today. He was not on the plane and this fly over appears to have been coordinated by the Air Force, the FAA, and the White House Military Office. That said, it was still a stupid idea to fly ANY plane that low near New York City and the Statue of Liberty, even 8 years after 9/11/01. Americans, especially New Yorkers, react very strongly to seeing ANY plane fly 1000 feet above the ground, even if they know the plane is going to land safely and is not an attack.

(CLICK HERE TO SEE A SLIDESHOW OF THE PANIC IN NEW YORK CITY) Sad!

(THE WALL STREET JOURNAL HAS VIDEO OF THE FLY OVER) Again, stupid idea to fly ANY plane in this fashion near New York City!

Louis Caldera of the White House Military Office apologized for the incident today…

From ABC News:

A White House official told ABC News that President Obama was “furious” to hear about the plane incident. Caldera was called into a meeting with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina.

“It didn’t sound like a fun meeting,” the White House official said.

Although the shoot was authorized, the normal system of public notification broke down, multiple officials said.

The DOD would not answer specific questions about the promotional flight.

I feel bad for New Yorkers today. Those who saw the plane instinctively left the building they were in to get to safety. I can’t even imagine how they must have felt! Nothing like having horrific memories come back to the surface after all these years. :-(

9/11/01 is etched in our brains. No doubt about it. Every time I drive through Portland, Maine airplanes come in low over the city to land at the Portland International Jetport. This is normal and has been going on for years….even after 9/11, but I gotta tell ya….it’s unnerving to see planes flying low over Portland, because I always think to myself, “Is that plane headed to the airport?” or “That plane is flying awfully low”. My mind doesn’t see it as a normal flight. To this day, I still have the same reaction to planes flying low because of what is embedded in my memory from the morning of 9/11/01. Many Americans do and for New Yorkers today, they got another round of paranoia. Nice. Spit.

Do you still get that sunken feeling when you see a plane flying low?

Tonight on KO’s show, he gave Louis Caldera the “Worst Person in the World” honor. Yep, he was worse than Glenn Beck and Ass Limbo for today! Wow. That’s going some, but then again, it was a stupid idea to do this flyover! Panic in New York City today was an understatement!

Beck & Limbo still suck though!

We had a White House full of war criminals for 8 years, but you’re concerned about ONE stupid thing the Air Force, the FAA, and the White House Military Office did today? Wow. You’re still pathetic and you get more pathetic everyday!

I bet you got a woody today seeing the footage of the plane. You neocons have been using 9/11 for years now and long for the days of Americans dying needlessly, because it “helped” your party for so long. Well, wake up! Take a cold shower! Americans hate your guts now and don’t give a two shits what you think on anything!

It is amazing that anyone would think this was a good idea regardless of who it was. The news said the decision was made by a low level person but that is hogwash. Even though obama is a total narcissist, I doubt he even knew about this blunder. Takes someone with authority to authorize the use of the air force one aircraft, a fighter and over restricted airspace.

I am sure heads will roll but probably not the person who made the decision as he/she will insulate themselves.

The reich-wing blog NewsBusters is upset that Caldera’s apology was only one paragraph long and felt, ” But wouldn’t a profusely apologetic White House want to go on record at length about this, rather than expect a short statement from a mid-level staffer be the final word?”

Just having an APOLOGY from the White House is comforting after 8 years of stonewalling and LIES.
