The saddest part about the media in this country is that the majority is often not heard, Santelli epitomizes this problem.

Rick Santelli is a perfect example of this conflict of interest, I'd bet money he had all his short positions in place right before he called the majority of American homeowners "losers" then turned to his fellow seven figure buddies and demanded a market crash on national television in the middle of one of the most severe financial catastrophe's this country has ever gone through.

In a word, criminal.
I sincerely hope the SEC has considered taking a good look at him, as soon as they finish with the great job they're doing with Madoff.

I'm back for some reason... I guess I like an argument.

Where did I say everything is fine or ANYTHING about markets running well? In my first post I disagreed with the method of taking risk with no reward. I actually think that if the gov. is going to participate in the MBS market, they should just buy the entire MBSs themselves. It achieves the same effect with no handouts to hedge funds.

I STATED THAT I WAS AGAINST THE WAR FROM THE BEGINNING. At 18 I was able to see through the bs. I voted for Kerry in hopes of getting us out of the war.

The facts are the facts, we are not even close to the 1982 peak of 10.8% unemployment (currently 7.6%). Most economists/practitioners compare this recession to the mid-70s which peaked at 9.0%. Was 1982 or 1975 a depression?

In case anyone on this blog wants to get a factual view of the economy, http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/ .

I am not a neocon. I think for myself and realize that government has a place in our lives, but is not the answer to everything.

You have nothing but cliches and puns. Try thinking for yourself every now and then rather than buying into the straight party line.

Okay, according to Blake, everything is fine, the markets are running appropriately, everyone is happy, the illegal war in Iraq is making America rich, prosperous, and safe, the rich are good, the poor are bad, and the Shadow Economy will help America get out of this financial mess.

Wow neocon! You and Santelli of the American Taliban are so full of positiveness! Good for you.

I don't have time to keep coming back to check this blog, fortunately. I kind of wish I had not stumbled across it the other day. This is filled with the most idiotic assumptions and conspiracy theories I've read in a long time. "I’m sure the Big Players will continue to manipulate the market somehow to benefit themselves." Somehow! We don't know how they will or even how they did, but SOMEHOW, the "Big Players" will hurt us little guys. Give me a break. Or better yet, give me some logical connections and lines of thinking.

This is not a depression. The problem is one of perception. We have gone nearly 30 years without having a serious RECESSION (see the Great Moderation). Therefore, people don't remember (even those like Kay that lived through it) what a recession is like. No doubt it is serious, but don't say this is a depression and don't blame it on one man who had little to nothing to do with it.

For the great depression, consider that the war was on a much larger scale than this one. This allowed conscription/volunteering to soak up a lot of the unemployed. There is no doubt that this was also a huge government spending project. We also emerged with a new industry (defense) and the development of a consumer economy. Consider these things, and it's clear that the war (in this case) rescued the economy. I was anti-war from the beginning of this one (Clinton wasn't, Obama was busy organizing communities and I suppose was against it). I think that in light of what I mentioned above, this is a very different war and has not had the same effect on our economy.

One last point before I leave this blog for good. The last banking deregulation that occurred was in 1999. Who was the president? Before that, there was more deregulation in 1994. I have a fuzzy memory, was his last name Bush? Evil Bush deregulation is the problem?

Clif,

If you look at the past it is that George Washington that started all this mess and those idiots who drew up the constitution.

This stuff about being independent and making your own decisions, what a crock. Work for a living, what a crock, pay your bills, what a crock, be allowed to fail. What were they thinking because the government can make decisions for me much better than I can.

It was our founding fathers who got us into this mess. Given the choice President Barack Obama will change that.

See moron the Dulles brothers did in Vietnam what Bush has tried to do in Iraq, start a war by violating international treaties and law, then create a mechanism to force the future administrations to continue their illegal war.

and trust me bozo, the Vietnamese were at war inside Vietnam even if the sheeple in the US didn't know it in the late 1950's, the insurgency against the puppet government supported by the CIA which Alan Dulles ran was in full swing by the time John Kennedy was elected.

Alan Dulles ran both the Bay of Pigs ops and Vietnam fiasco from the CIA until Kennedy fired him on November 29, 1961.

BTW as an aside Henry Kissinger worked for Alan Dulles in the 40's.

Other fiasco's started by Dulles, he was instrumental in overthrowing a democratically elected president in Iran, and setting the brutal SHAH back on the thrown, (see operation AJAX)which ended when the Iranian people threw him out which resulted in the hate between Iran and the US for the last 3 decades and of course Reagan's building up of Saddam as a counter weigh to Iran until he refused to dance to Washington's tune.

also check out his checkerded past here

<a href="http://panshin.com/trogholm/secret/rightroots/dulles.html" rel="nofollow">Alan Dulles, the nazis and the CIA</a>

Or <a href="http://bushout.blogspot.com/2004/02/bushes-cia-and-american-fascism-as.html" rel="nofollow">Here</a>

The hidden power that certain elements of the reich wing used in the 1930's thru the 70's has never been fully explored in the public commons, however it did directly influence both the options available and the propaganda for the option the reich-wing wanted.

Circles with-in circles if you actually follow the players who don't ask to get elected for the powers they claim sway over.

<i>Vietnam was more my thing and gee who got us into that Police Action that took 50K American lives.</i>

First of all clear it up for us,

DID YOU serve in Vietnam?

and as for who got us into that one,

John Foster Dulles and his brother Alan Dulles made sure the Geneva accords of 1954 were quashed in the south when they went to New Jersey to get Diem a catholic to set up a puppet government in the south to keep the majority of the Vietnamese people from electing ho president, be4cause somewhere near 85-90% of the Vietnamese people supported the person who fought to free Vietnam from the Japanese in WW2 and then to evict the colonist power France from it's soil, as their first president sorta like we wanted the guy who kicked the British ass as ours. Those elections were mandated by the Geneva accords. However like Bush the Dulles brothers had no problem violating international law or treaties to get what they wanted.

They then created the SEATO treaty so future US administrations would be bound by treaty to defend the government they created out of whole cloth. The treaty bound the US and other SEATO cosigners, like the Philippines and South Korea, both dependent on the US to defend a government which was illegitimate in the eyes of the people of Vietnam as imposed by a western power.

JFK inherited both the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the SEATO demand for defending the Dulles brothers puppet dictator in the south.

By the summer of 1963, John Kennedy had seem thru the whole mess and had ordered the beginning of the withdrawal of US troops, the first 1000 out of 17,000 advisers had been ordered to withdraw, when someone murdered Kennedy.

Read the pentagon papers, the pentagons own version of what happened written while it was happening son.

BTW numbnuts it was the reich-wing future neo-cons who refused to accept what France said about Vietnam just like they refused to accept the truth about the idiocy of attacking Iraq.

and a shit fur brains like YOU is still defending those idiots fur some reason.

I said If Clif served he deserves government support.
You are correct about me not serving in the Gulf war, I was past my prime. Vietnam was more my thing and gee who got us into that Police Action that took 50K American lives.
We did prevent the Vietnamese rice farmers from taking over our country.
Who did we replace in Vietnam, that's right the great country of France, now I see why you want us to be just like them.

Uh Dumbass? Clif has tried to explain to you for quite some time now that he was in THE FIRST PERSIAN GULF WAR AND WAS INJURED AS A RESULT OF IT. Did you ever ask Clif what his responsibilities were in that war, you know, the one YOU DIDN'T GO TO?

Sarah Palin should be in jail for stealing from Alaskans in the few short years she's been in office (and as mayor). She makes Ted Stevens look innocent.

Oh really? The hate is coming from the liberals? Ummm, sorry pal, but for 8 years we who have been online for all that time CAN ATTEST THAT THE HATE COMES FROM THE NEOCONS WHO THREATENED TO KILL ANYONE WHO DIDN'T WORSHIP GEORGE BUSH LIKE THEY DID! Yep, they called us traitors for years too because we didn't love Bush like they did.

Funny....

....these same assholes hate President Obama and will not worship him! Why neocons? What has changed? Care to enlighten us Skudly....?
