QUOTE OF THE DAY:

<br />

GLENN BECK AT CPAC 2010: ‘Hello, my name is the Republican Party, and I’ve got a problem. I’m addicted to spending and big government…I’m addicted to spending and I just don’t want to spend today.’ (CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO QUOTE)

"If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” ~ John F. Kennedy, 1960

John F. Kennedy was assassinated 45 years ago today…

…fast forward to today and our country has elected Barack Obama, the first bi-racial president ever in the history of our nation! Incredible. Good for us. ;-)

(Emptywheel of FireDogLake has a great JFK rememberance post up today. Please read it.)

  • And here’s an interesting article I read this morning about one of the many witnesses to JFK’s assassination if you’re interested:

  • Strange how some events in our lives remain so fresh in our minds. I was working at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend as a physical therapy orderly while going to Indiana U-South Bend at night. I can no longer remember the names of my patients nor even most co-workers but I remember to this day everyone in the room with me when I heard the news he was shot.

    It was right after lunch and I was preparing an out-patient for physical therapy. He was an attorney and I remember his daughter, Brenda, always brought him to the hospital and stayed at the parallel bars to encourage him to walk since he had had a massive stroke that had paralyzed half of his body.

    A nurse’s aid, Mary Jordan, ran into the room and screamed that Kennedy “had been shot” and since she was the department joker, I said, “Mary, you shouldn’t joke like that!” then noticed she was crying. I stayed with my patient for a half hour helping the physical therapist. But it was like a dream. I remember the half of the patient’s face that wasn’t paralyzed showing some horror as he once had lived in a Nazi camp as a young man and had the tattoo to prove it.

    Over the intercom, Sister Michaeleen announced a mass would be said immediately to pray for his recovery and our department head gave us all permission to leave if we wished, so I went to the special mass. Coming out of the mass at the very large hospital chapel, everyone in the hallway was already crying and then we were told he was gone. The rest of the weekend was surreal. I went home 40 miles away as I didn’t want to spend time alone in my apartment. Then sitting with my father watching the transfer of Lee Harvey Oswald while my mother was in the kitchen preparing Sunday dinner, I saw Oswald’s murder LIVE on TV. My father, who had moonlighted for years as a deputy sheriff has just made a comment that he didn’t like the circus atmosphere in the crowded Dallas jail corridor and was concerned about “security” when only a second later Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby.

    Most of the physical therapy patients were out-patients and so many canceled the day of the funeral, that most of us were given the day off to also watch it on television. The nation was pretty much shut down that day. I was most upset and I was still a Republican at the time, had been a Goldwater volunteer along with fellow members of YAF. I felt our nation had lost a bit of its soul that terrible day and then we had MLK and RFK being murdered only five years later.

    It’s the software. Somehow I wonder if some folks who speak out online against the “regime” aren’t put on a cyber “no fly” list?

    You delete comments that disagree with you or others. How open minded of you. I thought you wrote where you didn’t do that. Then you only allow those that think like you to spew the most vile language.
