Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States!

May I introduce to you the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama!!!!!…

<p></p>

ELECTORAL VOTES: Barack 349 (!!!!) McCain 162

Wow!

Okay, it’s really hitting me hard this morning what happened last night. Being at Rep. Terry Hayes’ house (she won her re-election bid. Congratulations Terry!) was so relaxing and wonderful (@ 15 people were there), that when Barack Obama was announced as the winner, there wasn’t a big hoopla as you would expect. Instead, we were mostly stunned into silence with a feeling of accomplishment like no other. When I left Terry’s house a little before midnight, I hadn’t shed a tear. In fact, even when I got home to check the comments on the last thread, Barack’s monumental win (and all the republicans who were kicked out of office! Thanya Jeebus!) still hadn’t sunk in and I still hadn’t shed a tear. My feelings were mute, well…

…until this morning.

I am so freaking emotional I can’t even control myself! I’m in the process of uploading pictures I took at our local polling place and the local Democrat’s office from last night, but my brain isn’t working! Oh yeah! I’m losing it big time! Not thinking straight this morning at all…

How lucky is our country right now! I think the supporters of the Bush Regime and of the McCain/Palin ticket need to sit back and reflect what has happened and not resort to their typical divisive bullshit. Barack Obama doesn’t want it and neither do we. AMERICANS ARE READY FOR CHANGE AND IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE THAT, YOU NEED TO LOOK DEEP IN YOUR HEART TO FIGURE OUT WHY.

I’m just so freaking happy. America and the world deserves Barack Obama after 8 long years of living hell.

Last night I had offered to my local Democrats to pick up people in the area to bring them to their polling stations if they weren’t able to get there themselves. Well, I had one pick-up all night and it was a man in his late 70’s named Ernest. When I pulled into his driveway, I immediately noticed he was wearing a USMC leather jacket and a baseball cap. When he got in my car, I noticed what the writing on his hat said: I LOVE JESUS. LOL! OMG, he was the cutest old man I’ve ever met. As we drove to his polling place, we talked about his military service (which he was obviously proud of) and then I asked him why he was voting tonight. He said to me (paraphrasing but not far off), “I’m am so sick of the people saying those things about Barack Obama. He’s a good decent man and is going to be good for our country. I had to make my voice known and I wanted to be able to tell those around me that they can’t tell me how to vote”. In other words, Ernest was uncool to the people in his life for not liking John McCain. Well, Ernest proved them wrong last night! He was part of history and I can guarantee you he is feeling terrific this morning! I’m so proud of him. He said to me as he was getting out of my car that he was proud of people like me and everyone else who worked for Barack Obama. I could tell ole Ernest was proud of himself too. Woohoo!

What an incredible night we had! POWER OF THE PEOPLE ON STEROIDS! And we love it. And remember……the new saying is: YES WE DID!

Oh yes we did! We did it bigtime.

Here’s the email everyone got right before Barack Obama stepped onto the stage at Grant Park to get the applause of his life:

I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

    We just made history.

And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing…

All of this happened because of you.

    Thank you,

    Barack

They were knocking on doors last night at 6:30pm last night in my area to get out the vote for Barack. Why is that extraordinary? IT’S PITCH BLACK AT 6:30PM HERE IN MAINE AT THAT TIME! With flashlights in hand, the great Democrats of my area were knocking on doors for a man they’ve only met in their hearts.

Okay, I’m crying again. Gotta get ready for work! Hug yourselves for me!!!

BTW if you want to see how blue the country is, check out a congressional map right now.

    Blue America

it’s much larger then they think.

    251 to 173

    and there is 11 seats still undecided;

Blue states in congress Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Mexico Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota.

We’re getting BIGGER and they are gettin’ smaller.

Guess who called me this morning at 7:30am? My mother from Florida. As soon as I saw their number, I picked up the phone and said, “President Obama!!!!”. My mother laughed and then said, “CONGRATULATIONS!!!”.

I love my Mom & Dad. They too wished Grammy was around to witness Barack’s win. My grandmother would be so proud!

Here’s the poster I’m going to purchase to put on my office wall (just as my grandmother did with JFK’s picture):

    Woohoo!

    Okay, going to work. ;-)

That’s right my brothers & sistahs! WE HAVE OVERCOME!

I for one am so proud of my country right now and can only imagine how uplifting it is for my black brothers and sisters after last nights historical victory for Barack Obama!

May all of the haters, racists and idiots now just dry up and blow away for our country would be better off without their hate and ignorance.

Didn’t go to bed until my home state of Indiana was called for Obama and just got up at 10 a.m. to watch "The View", where even Elisabeth was a good sport (lots better than the rowdy, booing crowd at the Biltmore concession speech). I woke up TIRED so guess yesterday was more exhausting than I thought it was (and I voted by mail two weeks ago). Glad it’s over. I hear Louisiana Gov. Jindal is making a trek to Iowa in two weeks to explore running for president in 2012 so it’s starting all over again!

Sad to see Michelle Bachman (R-MN) get re-elected and Al Franken to lose by only 600 votes to Sen. Norm Coleman (but I guess that like 7000 mail-in ballots aren’t yet counted). Seems the $70 million that the Utah Mormons (protectors of monogamous hetero marriage) and Dobson’s Colorado Springs religious nuts, Focus on the Family, may have "unmarried" Ellen DeGeneres.

What an amazing day in American history! Dreams do come true! Did you all see how Oprah Winfrey revealed this week that she uses a vision board to visualize her goals and harness the power of intention? Oprah created a vision board, months ago, that emphasized Obama as president and the gown she intended to wear during his imagined inauguration.

For anybody who doesn’t know, a vision board is collage of image that symbolizes a desired outcome. By looking at these images daily and imagining these desired outcomes – like accomplishing a goal – your brain becomes more honed in to making this reality. Many top athletes, entrepreneurs, presidents, and philanthropists have used vision boards to help them accomplish their goals.

I know that on http://www.TheVisionBoardKit.com you can download a free chapter that includes the eight basic ingredients of a successful vision board.

  11. Grant in Texas says:

Lots of healing ahead and there may be many who will never accept the Obamas residing in the White’s Only House. I noted a difference in attitude last night during the speeches that was striking. When McCain mentioned Obama, the crowd loudly booed and McCain to his credit, for once stopped and told them, "No, no.!" which is what he and Sarah should have done during some of their vicious rallies. There was quite a contrast when President-Elect Obama praised Sen. McCain and the Chicago crowd applauded. Grant Park, with all shades of skin tones represented, looked like America. So far 34 Democratic blacks have been elected to the new Congress while ZERO black Republicans will be there. The Party of Lincoln needs to do some serious soul-searching.

  12. Grant in Texas says:

Many athletes envision upcoming events to prepare for them, like mentally practicing for situations that may occur. The Boy Scouts teach, "Be Prepared!" It is positive thinking put into practice and it often works. We all do it sometimes not realizing it, like rehearsing how we will act on a "first date" or any other event we think we may be a part of. When I get seated in a airplane, I count the rows to the exits "just in case" and such preparation can save our lives.

I am sure President-elect Obama is already rehearsing in his mind how he will react to all kinds of situations once he becomes seated in the Oval Office. However, I am not so sure how much our "seat of his pants" present leader thought ahead. For sure, Bush didn’t prepare for the occupation of Iraq. McCain is also too much like Bush in that respect, a reason I did not want him to win.

  13. Grant in Texas says:

I see the first racist remark against Obama in the media was uttered on Fox News by Ralph Nader who called President-elect Obama an "Uncle Tom" and Shepard Smith, to his credit, cut him off.

    http://www.tvguide.com/News/Fox-News-Calls-35351.aspx

  14. Grant in Texas says:

Scott Kleeb, the young hunky Democratic Nebraska cowboy that a gay blog raised thousands for online lost his bid for U.S. Senate 59-41 in that most "red" of states.

  15. Grant in Texas says:

Surfing other blogsites BOTH reich and "progressive", already revealed are the naysayers out there (including some Naderites) saying Obama will fail, or Obama won’t be progressive enough or will throw the left under the bus, yada, yada, yada. Some just love raining on our parades (or pissing on the back of our legs!). Can’t some just enjoy a victory for even a few hours, unable to let go of spite, unable to come to grips with a new hopeful attitude? Some would rather continue spewing the hate, the suspicion, the animosity. Could anything ever make some folks happy or do they only revel in misery.

We have just witnessed a historic election, and whether or not Barack Obama proves to be a good or bad president, he represents a change in attitude as a nation, a new beginning, and hopefully a departure from the worst of the old ways. I wish President-elect Obama well and I hope the fates are kind to him so that we can forever leave behind the destructive politics of spite and recrimination.

"Yes we can" and we must.

  18. JFH says:

Obama is too smart to repeat the mistakes of Clinton in 1992 (well technically 1993-1994)… This means that y’all might be a little disappointed in terms of what Pres. Obama will try to accomplish…

  19. Grant in Texas says:

I guess according to Bay Buchanan, Tom Brokaw, and Karl Rove, it has been that we liberals are too far left and they attribute Democratic victories yesterday to those victors who pandered to the centrist right!

  20. kayinmaine says:

    Nice musical letter, Hannah. ;-)

  21. clif says:

Barack Obama winning this election is like our very own Berlin Wall coming down, because in both cases the citizens did it, not the governments.

  22. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

JFH…After living thru eight years of hell with the failed Bush administration and six years of a republikkkan majority I highly doubt that Barack Obama will disappoint us.

Sure there may be some things Barack may do that we don’t always agree with but have no doubt that unlike Bush, Barack will have the true interests of our we the people and our country at heart with each decision.

One more thing…If Barack suddenly goes off of the deep end, like say starts trampling all over the constitution, like Bush, you can bet we progressives will voice our anger unlike you sheep on the reich who supported Bush and all of his failures to the bitter end.

  23. clif says:

Fester … JFH is like the rest of the “volkstrum” on the losing side, who are looking for what ever crap they have left to throw.

It’s like the idiotic reich wing pundits who claim the reich wing wasn’t reich wing ENOUGH to win this time.

They are so clueless they probably will try to buffer up the shrinking circle of clowns to try again in 2 years hopefully after 2012 the remaining grown-ups on the right will put them all in a time out for a couple of decades like Eisenhower and Nixon did in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

However don’t worry in a couple of generations clueless twits on the right will resurrect the ghosts of the last decade like they tried to resurrect McCarthy and his ilk to demonize the country into being frightened so they can loot it again.

It is all they really ever have.

  24. Grant in Texas says:

I see a new TROLL Nietzsche in the thread below already blamed today’s Dow drop of 500 points on President-elect Obama. Didn’t take em long, did it? Reading the WSJ, one writer says to quit being mean to poor George “26%” Bush:

It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122584386627599251.html

  25. clif says:

grant … that reich wing talking pint has shown up elsewhere,

the GOPer slime machine is just revamping for tryin’ to tear Obama down like they did Clinton in 1993 …. too bad they are soo discredited in both the tubes and a lot of the MSM.

the inter fighting of the GOP is gonna undercut their power also.

  26. Grant in Texas says:

Today on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh said John McCain lost because conservatives are “too nice.” !!!

  27. gage says:

just found this post on The NYT Caucus blog. The English is broken but its meaning is solid as a rock!

    “To american citizen,
One thing you’ve already got: in a single day, you not only proved the power of the “american dream”, and left discrimination backwards, but you got another thing: today, we are all americans all over the world.
Your leadership is now accepted as never before.

    Cheers!
    Eduardo

    — Eduardo Gravanita”

  28. clif says:

Over 63 million Americans voted for Barack Obama, and over 6 billion people all over the planet approve.

  29. Grant in Texas says:

Seeing people pour out into streets all over our nation to celebrate the Obama victory, seeing tens of thousands moving into Grant Park, I had a fear of seeing an ugly side suddenly erupt as has happened before with celebrations by large groups of persons after winning sports events, “world championships” (even if only an American event!).

But there were no cars overturned and torched, windows shattered and stores looted, all in the name (or excuse) of “celebration”! Such hooliganism didn’t happen last night anywhere I have heard of. Maybe the “dignified” Obama has made those who came out to honor feel more dignified, perhaps? If so, we are already headed in a new, more civil direction.

  30. gage says:

You know what, Grant? today, on my long commute home, I turned on the AM radio. I think it was Hannity. Guess what? For the first time in eight years, i didn’t give a fat rat’s ass what that idiot was saying. It was just background noise. They lost and they have egg all over their shameless faces. AND, let’s not forget that 24 million young people, first time voters, voted in this election and the majority of them voted for PRESIDENT ELECT Barack Obama (love saying it.) So, those AM nutters’ days are limited. Hopefully, the anti-trust policies of the former FCC will be resurrected soon as well.

Ain’t life feeling a much better today?

  31. Chris from Maine says:

its still hard to believe, even 24 hours later.

The right wing has been neutered, and a new progressive administration is going to take power.

Now the question remains.. will Obama roll back all the Bush horrors? (Gitmo for one, torture, rendition, etc) That should be his first priority. The world will rejoice, believe you me, and it is a needed and necessary step in the rebirth of America.

  32. Grant in Texas says:

Now that the election is over, the “secrets” are pouring out of the McCain camp. There’s the story of walking in front of some her male handlers fresh out of the shower, wrapped only in a towel and having a “towel-head” too.

    http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2008/11/newsweek_sarah_palin_sailed_in.html

Today, Carl Cameron on FOX NEWS came out with some other jewels that had to be kept under wraps before the election:

    http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/scarce/palin-did-not-know-africa-continent

She didn’t know that Africa was a continent but thought it was a nation kind of like SOUTH Africa. She couldn’t name any of our NAFTA partners, etc. And yet the christian reich wants to run her maybe in 2012?

  33. Grant in Texas says:

Newsweek also has a story out that George W. Bush seems unfazed by all of the harsh criticism out there directed against him, his having the lowest approval numbers ever, etc. He feels history will redeem him:

    http://www.newsweek.com/id/166834?tid=relatedcl

    Ignorance is bliss!

  34. clif says:

He feels history will redeem him:

grant in one way he is right,

at some point in history he will NOT even be remembered.

then he will no longer be reviled.

  35. clif says:

    Ahhhhh …….

    The reich-wing infighting has begin;

    The McCain campaign’s classless cowards;

    graphic warning:

    It IS the “malkin” website;

    take precautions

    and

    The redstate clown brigade is in on the act;

    Operation Leper

(warning: they act real childish when faced with reality)

These pathetic reichwing punks can’t use the use government to spy on us all and make their little lists for revenge …. so they want to go viral on each other now.

Well lets NOT stop them …. after all it is what they do best, blame everyone BUT themselves for their failures.

    Kinda makes the next couple of months fun watching them;

Stick knives in each others back,

    Playing the blame game,

    (they claim they never play)

Trying to out maneuver each other for any perceived advantage in 2010 and especially 2012.

Stock up on the popcorn folks this one will be very enjoyable.

  36. kayinmaine says:

Clif, it’s so much fun watching them eat other’s toes off! Here’s a comment by one of the wingers on MM’s site:

“If the loser Republican Party doesn’t get its act together it will soon be history.

Bah hahahahahaha! Too late. The republic party has decended into a religious racist militia right before our eyes and they have George Bush, Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, and themselves to blame! Americans and the citizens around the world see the members of the republic party as bad as the Taliban. It’s going to take a lot of work for them to lose this image too.

    Good riddance!
