2008 ELECTION DAY OPEN THREAD….GO BARACK!

</p>

I have no idea where I’ll be for a portion of today, because as I pointed out in my last post, I’m renting myself out to the Democrats in my area to help them in anyway I can. So, this will be an open thread for now. Who knows, maybe I’ll be home early if there are enough volunteers today. Not sure. I will bringing my camera with me today to capture some moments of this most historic day and if I have time I will post them before the polls close tonight in Maine @ 8pm EST. After that, I’ll be heading to Rep. Terry Hayes’ home for some eats, drinks, and celebration! Myself and others did some phone-banking for her over the last few months and it was incredible to hear that the Independents (unaffiliated voters) went for her 7 to 1. Wow! Let’s hope that IS THE TREND AROUND THE COUNTRY FOR BARACK OBAMA!

If you’re voting today and you think there might be some shenanigans, please bring your valid driver’s license with you and bring a current electric or telephone bill showing your current address on it….just in case. Hell, bring your birth certificate if you feel you have to! We CANNOT allow the republicans to take your RIGHT TO VOTE away. Voting is not a PRIVILEGE….it’s a right! They’ll try anything, so be prepared!

Also, if you’re voting at a large polling place, there will most definitely be large lines ALL DAY LONG until the poll closes, so bring some water with you, some snacks, and wear comfortable clothing & shoes. It’s supposed to rain in a couple of states today, SO BRING YOUR UMBRELLA or wear a hooded coat, sweatshirt.

No way in hell are we going to allow the bastards to knock us down on election day! We will be prepared at all costs!

Oh yeah, one more thing…..WEAR SOMETHING BLUE. But don’t wear anything (not even a button or a bumper sticker)  that is political in any sense. I have 3 bumper stickers on my car right now (Obama, Allen, & Michaud), but the rules in my area is I cannot park my car within 25 feet of the door of the polling place, because it could be considered protesting or manipulating the voter. If I did park that close, I could be asked to move my car or leave. So, WEAR BLUE TODAY! You can’t be penalized for doing that. Just thought I’d point this out.

Power of the people, for the people, by the people!

  1. If anyone has a tip to give voters, please leave it here. Report anything you see today at the polls. By the way, Clif just voted in Kentucky for Barack Obama!!!! (((((HUGGING CLIF)))))

    GObama!

  2. The population of Maine is 1.3 million. Over 200,000 absentee/early votes have been cast already in our state and it appears if the trend continues….CLOSE TO HALF OUR STATE WILL BE VOTING THIS YEAR! Incredible! To me, this is what patriotism and love of country is all about. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! (and not power to the corporations as the wingers like to tout)

  5. This always amazes me….the election comes around every 4 years…., would you not think by now that we could have a damn system that actually WORKS IN EVERY STATE!!!!
Why oh why does there always, always have to be drama…everytime…is it SO DIFFICULT to find a way to let people just put a mark alongside a name of their choice!!!!
What century are we living in for heaven’s sake…we’ve been to the MOON and we can’t find someone, anyone who can invent a machine for voting purposes that actually works properly!!!!!!!
I just get really angry with this stupid, stupid system and we wonder
why other countries laugh at us…..we are SO far behind in a lot of ways
and we need to catch up with the rest of the world!!!!
I just hope tonight that ALL these machines are working and EVERY VOTE is counted, this election is far too important this year for any shady dealings from anywhere.

    GO OBAMA/BIDEN 08

  6. Prissy Miss Elisabeth Hasselbeck is still screaming "Rev. Wright, Rev.Wright, Rev. Wright" at the other ladies of the "The View"……as maybe she thinks she can sway some last minute voters??? Finally Sherri Shepherd brought up McCain cheating on his disfigured first wife in order to carry on an illicit affair with Cindy Megabucks. Elisabeth always comes prepared with RNC talking points that I have usually read on reich-wing hate sites online the night before.

Not only did the Personnel Dept. UNDER Gov. Palin say she committed nothing wrong in Troopergate, one who voted her way was APPOINTED to the job by Palin, herself. What a joke Alaska is becoming….it’s the NEW Florida.

I stayed up late enough to see McCain give his last rally speech in Prescott, AZ. Cindy spoke first and was a bit emotional (probably realizing John didn’t gift her with the White House after all…..no decorating White House Xmas trees and free designer dresses!). John didn’t mention Obama once, hardly spoke about Biden, didn’t do his "fight, fight, fight" bits, and seemed about ready to cry himself.

The pundits noted that McCain has missed many chances to be on local news shows during this campaign. Obama and Clinton were in Miami promptly at 11 p.m. the other night and made all of the Florida local newscasts. McCain and Palin made no local news speaking at 1 a.m.! They were in the air when local news were playing everywhere. Goes to show the difference between the campaigns, an organized Obama and an erratic McCain schedule.

  7. Even with bullets flying, the Iraqis were able to vote without the hassle we have here using their PAPER BALLOTS. Their indelible purple-inked fingers meant no voter fraud. Maybe the Iraqis need to bring "democracy" to Amerika!!!

  8. Only 4 hour voting lines in Cleveland, and the 9 hour early voting lines in Broward County, Florida are only 2 hours long this morning. Only in the "greatest" democracy in the world!!! "USA, USA, USA,….!"

In the U.K. I have been told they have different colors of PAPER ballots designated for each group of candidates, then ballots are placed in their respective color ballot boxes and counted separately, efficiently/quickly.

I could envision such a system here, one color for NATIONAL, another color for STATE, another color for LOCAL races, another color for school boards, another ballot for initiatives, etc. Since I most often don’t know much if anything about a lot of our local candidates (I haven’t lived in this locale for very long), why not vote only on those ballots where one is informed and take a pass on those ballots where we have no interest? I could see some only voting for national candidates, and be in-and-out quickly.

  9. Why I am not uncorking any bottle early tonight….

A voting system used in 34 states contains a critical programming error that can cause votes to be dropped while being electronically transferred from memory cards to a central tallying point, the manufacturer acknowledges.

The problem was identified after complaints from Ohio elections officials following the March primary there, but the logic error that is the root of the problem has been part of the software for 10 years, said Chris Riggall, a spokesman for Premier Election Solutions, formerly known as Diebold.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.c.....ained.html

  10. Woohoo! VOTE VOTE VOTE! Well, I just got home. I drove pass the porno/adult store and noticed the parking lot is full. And you know what that means! The right wingers are uptight about the election! Bah hahahahahahaha! Hysterical. What a great indicator. I’ve never seen the parking lot that full in the year I’ve lived here.

I’m going to do a few things and then will be leaving! I may be back sooner than I thought (I’m on-call if anyone needs me), but will be going down to the polling place to take some pictures here soon.

  11. Fired up about Dixville Notch, New Hampshire still!

    http://emptywheel.firedoglake......ssee-lamb/

Great post. I love the comments as well. Some of the Firepups pointed out that their local polling place was practically empty and they think it’s because all the Dems in town voted early! LOL I love America. Have I told you how much I love this kind of patriotism? Love it!

  12. eh my bad, you are aware!

    I should know better.

I just ran into my local peets and the little gimp behind the counter was asked if he votes by a lady waiting for her espresso drink. He basically said some crap [trying to appear intelligent] that he doesn’t vote.

Want to know what I said?

It wasn’t pretty but it sure felt good.

  13. Even Karl Rove has changed his mind since yesterday. Here’s a look at his electoral map as of just a few hours ago:

    http://www.rove.com/election

We have 10 adult video stores on the 26 miles to downtown Houston along I-45 from my house (as many as there are WalMart stores and Starbucks!). Their parking lots are full even on Christmas Day. Evacuating for Hurricane Rita, noticed everything was shut down tight except for them and they had cars! I plan to pop a cork on a bottle of bubbly tonight, however.

  14. Since it is illegal, the Starbucks, Ben & Jerry’s, and Krispy Kreme Donut shops that were offering free treats if you wore a "I VOTED" sticker are now giving them away to everyone.

  15. Liberal activist actor Tim Robbins was denied voting this morning in NYC.

"The issue is that they removed my name from the voting rolls," he said. "My name was there for the primaries."

He had to fill out a provisional ballot even though he recently warned on the Bill Maher HBO show that nobody should take a provisional ballot!

    http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes......the-polls/

  16. Robbins is an idiot if he thinks he’s being denied a vote because he’s a liberal activist… If you’re going to cheat you’re don’t going to do it in NYC, in a city and state where the cheating can’t possibly help you out.

BTW, I think this election is over, the GOTV of the Dems in key areas like Cleavland, Philly, and Gary (along with some questionable balloting, sorry, had to get in that dig) is going to put it over the edge for Obama.

Early congrats from this "riech winger"

(Don’t think y’all will get the filibuster proof majority in the Senate, though.)

  17. (Don’t think y’all will get the filibuster proof majority in the Senate, though.)

Won’t need it numbnuts after losing 14-15 seats in two elections do ya thunk the idiots who still follow the losing reich-wing policy are gonna be able to call the shots and force sitting senators to commit the equivalent of political suicide to keep the discredited philosophy alive?

Do ya thunk the American people are still gonna listen to YOU LOSERS?

    Damn are you incredibly stupid.

  18. Gary, Indiana is nearly 100% minority, black and to a lesser degree Hispanic. When I left there in the 1960′s, there was a section of SW Gary called Black Oak or "Little Appalachia" that was still white. McCain won’t get any votes there anyway. If there is voting chicanery, I would be more apt to not trust the "white flight" suburbs of Merrillville, Portage, Griffith, Highland, Crown Point (where Hillary did her shots of whiskey), however. Gary used to have a bad rep for vote stealing 50 years ago when it was mostly white, very ethnic, and had a big mafia influence. Those white folks no longer live there but moved away from the Lake.

  19. Clif, unlike the Democrats we won’t use the filibuster to stop the executive branch from appointing who they want to appoint, with the exception of extraordinary circumstances, including judges.

  20. Clif, unlike the Democrats we won’t use the filibuster to stop the executive branch from appointing who they want to appoint, with the exception of extraordinary circumstances, including judges.

    Bull fucking shit;

You assclowns used the filibuster to stop legislation, which is MUCH more important to everyday ordinary people, MORON.

    Typical shit eating reich-winger here folks, move on nothing special to see;

Try spinning the hate filled, do nothing block everything at all costs repubies, you MORON, in some other way …

Like how irrelevant the next two years they are gonna be.

  21. Take this with a ton of salt, but be hopeful it harbors a glimmer of things to come;

The early exits we’re seeing out of Virginia suggest a close race with an advantage to Obama. The split of the white vote looks similar to what Jim Webb got in 2006, but with blacks making up a substantially larger percentage of the electorate.

  22. i voted early yesterday.. straight democratic ticket.

I voted change, and I can only hope the rest of the country joins us.

  23. I have noticed at some other progressive blogs I visit that the trolling is diminishing. Time for some to go back to the temporary labor agencies, I guess.

  24. Remember if Obama holds all Kerry’s states, which 538 says he has a 99.43% chance of doing AND overtakes in Virginia

GAME OVER, the rest of Obama’s pick ups add to the landslide.

…..and of course the mandate to change this country from the destructive policies of the last 8 years and discredited reich-wing republican brand that has been followed by the losers who have almost destroyed this great country.

  25. I voted straight Democratic and in some positions where there were no Democratic candidates, voted for Libertarians instead of giving any Republican a vote. I left the Ron Paul box, who was unopposed, blank. I did vote for Ron Paul in 2006 as he was more progressive, especially on getting out of Iraq, than the "blue dog" Democratic opponent. However, I am so put out with Republicans I want the party "drowned in a bathtub" to quote a neocon, and see it rebuilt as sane political party that has shed the shackles of the neocons and religious nutjobs.

  26. Grant on My ballot, I had one race with only a republican running.

So I voted for a neighbor by writing his name in because he had fought the local city hall, and is winning in court at the moment.

I told him we needed him in Frankfort if he wins ……

    LOL

  27. Kind of telling about the candidates when it comes to where they are holding their "victory" parties. McCain, for sentimental reasons, is having his party in the small swanky Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix where he quickly married Cindy after dumping his first wife. Obama is hosting his in large FREE public park in Chicago that can hold a million people.

  28. A good sign;

    From five thirty eight,

Just looking at some of the places where we have results in so far. Obama is substantially outperforming Kerry — which is what he needs to do to win the state, of course, but the differences are pretty substantial.

    Steuben: Kerry 34%, Obama 42%
    DeKalb: Kerry 31%, Obama 38%
    Knox: Kerry 36%, Obama 54%
    Marshall: Kerry 31%, Obama 50%

If Obama takes Indiana, it’s gonna be a quick death for the reich-wing hate filled republican party tonight.

  29. Mitch could be in trouble here in Kentucky.

and a repubie official is saying Liddy dole is gonna LOSE in NC

  30. A downside to an Obama win…….

Some predict that the world will breathe such a heavy sigh of relief tonight with an Obama win, signaling the end of Bush/Cheney/McCain, that the simultaneous release of all that CO2 will unleash the worst global warming disaster yet recorded.

  31. Hi everybody! I just got back from the Oxford County Dems office and we are fired up! Well, okay, the last half hour the crew was exhausted, but nonetheless, the numbers for the ‘unaffiliated’ voters in our area is looking great for Barack. Of course, Maine will go for him over McCain. Hands down. It’s looking good for our local candidates as well as for our representatives in the capital, Augusta.

Anyways, it’s too early to tell how the voting results will be. We will just have to hang in there! We’ve got hours before us, before we’ll really know if America wants to stay on the fascist path or if they want REAL CHANGE AWAY FROM THAT BULLSHIT.

And yes! Looks like Liddy Dole is gonna lose! Good. I hope Mitch does, as well as, Coleman, Bachmann, and Collins!

I’m leaving now to go to Rep. Terry Hayes’ home to watch the results here in Maine as they come in and around the nation. Her husband tells me they have a computer for me to use, so I may touch base with you in a little bit.

GO OBAMA/BIDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WANT SANITY BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!

  32. Clif, is McSame gonna take Kentucky? Did you give the repugnicants a run for their money? I know we did in my red state! McSame will still take the state probably but we made the bastards work for it, I guarantee.

  33. They had to work for it here gage, they ran the racist Rev Wright commercial every 15 minutes to keep the racists fired up with hate.

But Obama will break 40% maybe even 45%, which if you think about it is big on a national level.

  34. You assclowns used the filibuster to stop legislation, which is MUCH more important to everyday ordinary people, MORON.

Even when the Republicans held the majority, they didn’t vote against liberals Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Stephen Breyer, let alone filibuster these SCOTUS candidates. SCOTUS is much more important for the long term for everday ordinary voters

You keep using these terms like "moron", I do not think it means what you think it means.

  35. If I had to call it now,

add Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana to Obama’s column

which means along with all the Kerry states

Obama has it in the bag already with the votes yet to be counted in the three states above …..

  36. The filibuster JFH is more important to legislation, where the reichwingers used it numerous times, the last two years then to the one or two times it comes up in a court decision idiot.

YOU are a MORON on this one son.

  37. Ben Chandler is winning by a LARGE margin;

If David Boswell can hang on the Kentucky congressional caucus will be 3 democratic party members and 3 reichwingers …..

Now if the crap-master pasty-faced-pansy mitch can be sent packing.

  38. 103 electoral votes for Obama 23 for McCain.

let the celebration begin because with out Pa,

    McCain LOSES

the reichwingers runnin’ his campaign already admitted that.

  39. Yup, Clif, so that’s House of Reps — Yarmuth (D) over repugnicant incumbent, Kentucky. Warner (D) for Senate over repugnicant incumbent, Virginia.

    Two red states, hmmmm.

    Love it!

  40. Pennsylvania ain’t been called yet there, Cliffy.

There you go again, son, homeschoolin’ showin’ again son…

Was it the fact Dad kept hittin’n ya son, or the interruptions so Mom could service the truckers which gave you such outstanding spelling skills son?

Meybbe old Grant can head on over to your house, Clif and you can wrap your lips around his wang.

  41. I thought the trolls like Ziggy would be back under their bridges tonight. Pennsylvania HAS been called for Obama.

  42. Don’t know if PA has reported but Obama is up 17 points there. As john McSame would say, ziggy, my friend, time for you to go fuck yourself.

  43. sorry ziggy, but after tonight

pa is gonna pull your teeth to try to make money

cause the reichwingers ain’t gonna pay ya any more to sling shit fur them son.

  44. Here’s hopin’ from Indiana;

We’re hearing crazy numbers out of Lake County(Chicago suburb) from some of our sources, things like 197-2 in favor of Obama on some machines

    and

Donnie Fowler, who is on HDNet with me and knows Indiana like the back of his hand, thinks Obama’s strong performance in Vigo County is a good sign for him.

so ziggy go find a tree and bore a hole in it son, that is all the pleasure you’ll find tonight son.

  45. 8:01 PM … MSNBC just called PA for Obama. But as far as we can tell they’re the only ones so far. If that turns out true, it’s a huge setback for McCain. And we don’t "call" states until at least two networks do.

    8:03 PM … PA Exits: Obama 57%, McCain 42%

8:04 PM … ABC calls PA for Obama.

  46. AP says, declared Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania — Obama.

    Kentucky, Tennessee — McSame.

  47. Gary in Lake County (Home of the Jackson Five) is nearly all black now, so I wouldn’t be surprised at a precinct reporting 197-2. Vigo County, Terre Haute, is coal mining country and usually leans Republican although in 2006, it did replace its Republican Congressman with a Democrat. It is the home of Birch Bayh, whose son Evan is U.S. Senator. Most of Indiana south of I-70, Indiana’s "Mason-Dixon line" (aka Kentuckiana) is "red" except for Bloomington, the home of Indiana University.

  48. Where I grew up in Indiana, near South Bend, was going for Obama in a county map I saw. It is a very Catholic (home of Notre Dame) and strong union area that used to be solid Democratic but pro-choice platforms turned many into Reagan Democrats.

  49. It looks good early for Al Frankin in Minnesota.

Here’s hopin’ they finally throw the crook Coleman aside.

  50. Obama wins Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Ohio, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Wisconsin.

Clif, CNN has already given CO to Barack, and NM.

That fat lady is getting louder and louder.

  51. Bah ha ha ha ha ha JHF grasping at straws! As Clif pointed out filibustering legislation is worse than filibustering some wingnut, corporate protecting judge.

OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!

  52. OH MY GOD!!!! I AM SO HAPPY!!!! HOORAY!!!! HOORAY!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, WE CAN! YES, WE CAN! YES, WE CAN! YES, WE CAN!!!!

  53. Let me introduce to you the 44th president of the United States Of America….BARACK OBAMA!

    WAY TO GO AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. Texas metro counties went for Obama like Houston, Beaumont, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio and the whole Rio Grande Valley cities of El Paso, McAllen, Brownsville, Harlingen, and his coattails brought along many new Democratic seats. Sen. Cornyn beat Noriega but not such a big defeat especially when the incumbent had $18 million to spend, six times more than Noriega. Looks like Tom DeLay’s old seat will be filled again by a Republican. McCain won cities like Ft. Worth, Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Lubbock and most all the rural counties. Overall McCain won the whole state by less than 10 points, whereas Bush beat Kerry here by 20 points.

  55. President Barack HUSSEIN Obama. (how he will be addressed at his swearing in with his hand on a Bible)
