Kay what your seeing in the south east especially Nashville and Atlanta is what we face in 5-10 years, unless we find alternatives to gas to fuel our way of getting around.
Their problem is the Colonial pipeline which originates in South West Louisiana was fed by the very refineries which Ike shut down.
The pipeline built during WW2 to keep German subs from sinking oil tankers which supplied the northeast, runs from SE Louisiana to New Jersey with a branch into Tenn.
The upper plains states face similar problems the last couple of years with diesel supplies because they are at the end of another pipeline.
The idea of peak oil is laughed at until you realize we are near this problem becoming nation wide with in a decade, which is a very real proposition.
It’s just unbelievable, Clif. I pity Barack Obama who is going to be left with an America that resembles a Third World country. *shaking head*

Another reason besides Gustav and Ike has been the oil companies have allowed their tank farms to run down their inventory of gasoline in reserve. Why would they REDUCE supply? To raise prices???
Total motor gasoline inventories increased
by 0.9 million barrels last week, and are below the lower boundary of the
average range. Check the tables this past week vs a year ago in September. Oil companies have produced and stored less.
