Obama & McCain Debate Open Thread

I’m going to bed to watch this debate and if something interesting happens, I’ll be back to write a comment about it.

So use this space to put your thoughts down! Should be an interesting evening to say the least. Or it could put us all asleep. Not sure. ;-)

Johnny seems very calm tonight. Did Cindy give him some drugs or did he maybe take in an extra long nap today?

Okay, going to bed to watch it. :-)

  2. Chris from Maine says:

    Obama won.

McCain NEVER looked at Obama. What’s up with that? (Besides the obvious..)

I cant wait for the Sarah Palin trainwreck to pull into the debate next week. Now THAT will be entertaining.

  3. watching swiftboaters says:

YEE HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW………..I just saw the debate again, love that C-Span!! Oh baby!! The polls are coming up Obama!! Before the debate, PBS had Obama behind, they are as crooked, no they are MORE crooked than the mainstream; they try to give the impression that they are far above anything like partiality and they are WAY PARTIAL; I do not know why Gwyn Awfull loves those Repubs and her buddy Condoleezza.

NOW, ABOUT MY MAN, OBAMA……….don’t you just love how he and Michelle go to each other after these events…he is just so HIGH ROAD and she is too……I love her stump speech..and Joe…..man oh man…I like his wife, a highly educated group, they are……..OH NO, JUST LIKE KERRY, HE WAS BAD FOR BEING ABLE TO TALK IN COMPLEX SENTENCES…….OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, A SNOB–HE IS SMART, WE DON’T WANT THAT FOR A PRESIDENT, we want a beer drinkin’, ass kickin’, coke smokin’, gun shootin’, hate mongerin’ CHRISTIAN! Sarah is GREAT, she shoots precious animals from planes, they can’t see her, but what a sport star!!

Did I ask about John M. and the importance that he puts on EXPERIENCE? Well, I am scratching my head. I mean, I got to thinking, is he aware of his age, it is 72. He has some medical problems, right? Well, if something should happen, he being a PATRIOTIC AMERICAN, how does he rationalize leaving us with Sarah P.?? Sarah P. has probably been to Washington, oh I’m guessing……..TWICE? She has been a mayor and a Governor…a 2 year governor who is in some legal trouble. Well, John gave Joe some fodder for the VEEP debate! NYA AH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE

I wonder if they are going to put a little earpiece in Sarah’s ear, too, like they did G.W.B. in his 2 and 3 debates. Where is Karl to fix this mess?

I can’t wait until they blame President Obama for messing up the economy………actaully, I thought they would put it on Bill’s shoulders, I haven’t even heard his name.

WHY IS JOHN SO ANGRY? Does he feel bad because his WIFE has the money?? Does he feel bad because he got caught with a few of his mistresses? Does he feel bad because he was a turncoat in VietNam? I mean, COULD there be a bit of guilt for LIVING on what wasn’t as a hero? Guilt? Maybe it is because he sold his soul….went against everything that he stood for……..oops, gotta remember that his lying goes back a long way, just look at some of those Viet Nam tapes…….32 songs he sang, they say, named him “songbird.” Well, I am sure that it goes back to not being able to measure up. I mean, you have TWO BIG MEAN KILLING MACHINES AS A DAD AND GRAND PA, that is something to live up to. (and so sick…..conservatives and their love of war, of macho, of killing, of bigotry, of the military, of guns…….ewwwwwwwwwwwwww) if they had a country of themselves only, I wonder how long it would take for them to kill each other off…………everyone an NRA, everyone a FUNDAMENTAL CHRISTIAN, everyone a PATRIOT, everyone has a gun-men, women and children, everyone wanting to give the money to the rich–>they would have, by choice, a trickle up economy; just give it to the RICH……..that would be some country, wouldn’t it? I mean, in Europe, their conservative is our liberal…….we are SO behind the world, well, (they are so behind the world; they are kind of in the times of Christ…

yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn….feelin’ good tonight….my only worry is how Karl will rig the election….seems that there is already cheating going on…..they are trying to dissuade college kids from registering in various areas……thank god for the troopers out there in the field, confronting this stuff straight on. I admit that i do not like my anger. I finally decided that I have to stand up to what is going on, this passive stuff is not taking care of my rage and fear of losing my freedom. The day that we get Obama in office, I will cool down. Fear of losing all freedoms drives me for now.

You know, people who haven’t decided whom they are going to vote for make me more angry than repugnanticans. I have had to worry, to write letters, to do civic things, to explain to my friends, to study……..I have had to do a lot during these 8 years to protect my freedom and some people skate through it, not even knowing whom they are going to vote for. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! “I think I will vote for Hillary………..no, change that to Sarah. (sigh)

I do wonder one thing. Do rightwingers have lower iq’s? I Mean, middle income rightwingers are voting AGAINST themselves. In Congress, every single day, their representatives are voting DIRECTLY against them……..they vote against ANYBODy whose income is below 3 million, I would say. John McCain a few weeks ago said that middle income is 5 million.

    middle income republican= oxymoron

they will HAVE to cheat with Palin, maybe they will get to Joe, drug him or something……Karl HAS to come up with something……really, they had better look at everything that joe eats this week…..

    good night ya’ll

  4. It was hard to hear what Obama was saying what with all the sneering and popping noises as McCain kept pulling his head in and out of his ass.

I appreciate that the post debate commentators called him on his Veterans remarks. Barely 20% can stomach the bastard and boy do I wish these organizations would make more noise to that effect.

  5. kayinmaine says:

To the neocons, McCain will have appeared strong last night, but that’s because Johnny was pulling lies out of his ass! Oh yes, the neocons think lies & deceits are the only way to talk to the American people.

Both candidates did well, but it’s very obvious to me Barack Obama is PRESIDENTIAL. He understands the facts, he’s composed, he knows what has happened over the last 8 years, and knows the correct direction to take our country in. Johnny does not. Johnny is an angry old man who wants to fight DEREGULATION WITH DEREGULATION. More of the same! This is no different than saying to combat the killings in America we have to put more guns in more hands!

Republicans are stupid. Johnny proved that last night.

  6. kayinmaine says:

Many are talking this morning about how Johnny would not look at Barack during the whole debate. Can you imagine Johnny as president? He, just like George Bush, will rub the world the wrong way. They’ve got that chip on their shoulder that will cause more problems than good. Oh, and don’t forget, according to Johnny, George Bush, and the republic Party, everyone else is to blame for what THEY’VE DONE! You could feel that attitude seeping through Johnny last night.

  7. kayinmaine says:

And I was so glad Barack Obama talked about the Iraq occupation as one thing he would be working on first thing if he becomes the president. This whole conversation happened in the beginning of the debate last night. Lehrer wanted to know what the candidates would do right off the bat taking in consideration the financial crisis our country is currently in. I gotta tell ya….I was nervous because first on my mind was the money we’re spending on a occupation! It should be cut because we never should have gone in Iraq in the first place. Wasn’t I relieved when it was Barack who said it. Phew. Tax cuts for the uber wealthy who don’t need it & the Iraq occupation are two reasons why we’re in the financial mess. And corruption on Wall Street!

  8. Grant in Texas says:

Since Obama wore a flag pin and McCain did NOT then Obama WINS! But the Kool-Aid drinkers will have an excuse for that and call Obama a panderer!

I do wish Obama would be a bit meaner as the bubbas love them some World Wrestling Entertainment, and NASCAR racing where guys intentionally try to force each other into the walls of the racetrack. You cannot play “nice” with the neocons. Look how far that got Kerry, Gore, and Dukakis.

  9. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

In my opinion Barack needs to be tougher on McCain. Bring up the Keating 5 when McCain talks about corruption and greed. Bring up how McCain opposed the GI Bill because it gave too much when McCain spouts off how he supports veterans.

I thought Barack held his own overall. Jim Lehrer did an all right job but he allowed McCain to get the last word on too many occasions and McCain would interupt Barack when he tried to give a rebuttal

McCain is a walking campaign commercial, no substance. He claims he knows how to win wars, fight terrorism, deal with Iraq, work across the aisle, etc, etc, he sure knows a lot *snark*

Rumor has it that McCain wouldn’t look Barack in the eye because one of his handlers told him if you look a black man straight in the eye he will feel threatened and get aggressive.”

  10. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Grant, I noticed McCain didn’t wear his flag lapel pin either, hmmm I wonder if the reich wing controlled media will call him a communist or anti-American?

  11. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Barack Obama sounds like a very thoughtful leader with sound judgement when he talks about national security issues. One message he needs to continue to repeat and repeat again is that Al Qaida has operations in over 60 countries and yet as we fight this war on terrorism we put all of our eggs in one basket by focusing all of our attention on Iraq.

  12. kayinmaine says:

Well, the whole world wants Barack Obama to win, so if the McCain Pigs decide to steal the election through the Electoral College or some other criminal means, then my feeling is the world will take it as an act of war! Scary.

Barack Obama won it hands down last night because he appeared presidential, rational, smart, in tune, and above all, SANE. McCrazy flunked.

Grant, yep, McCrazy didn’t wear his flag pin, but I’m sure the neocons will say, “he was too busy worrying about the economy to even think of it” or some other spin. Pathetic. If I were Barack, I wouldn’t have worn the flag pin. We don’t need no stinking fake jewelry to show our love of country.

  13. gage says:

I keep telling people that Iraq is the number one issue, the issue on which McBlame is the most vulnerable, the issue on which he is indelibly, inseparably tied to george w. bush for life. He can’t escape it — he’s been wrong on Iraq from the very onset and it is going to keep biting him in the ass no matter how he tries to pump his “the surge worked” argument. Everytime he talks about the Wall Street bail out, Iraq and the trillion dollar debt to China will be looming in the background. Everytime he talks about Afghanistan or Pakistan, the fact that he is on the record of having said that we should pour all our resources into Iraq and we’ll just “muddle through” on Afghanistan will haunt him. Last night, Obama picked up on all of that brilliantly. He said exactly what should be said. The way to defeat McBlame: Iraq, Iraq, Iraq! (And, after Obama is president, we can arrest george w. bush and dick the prick cheney and charge them with murder.) ((By the way, where has ol’ dicky been hiding lately? Ya don’t suppose his ticker finally gave out on him, do ya? Well, we can hope.))

Go OBAMA!!! Up the Blue and the Green! Down torie scum neocons!! Up the Revolution!!!

  14. Ox says:

The Keating 5 always seems off the table, and that is when you know the fix is in. There is one party with two wings who take instructions from the master.

  15. steph says:

I think McCain won, although both candidates were terrible – but do their debating skills really matter to the American electorate? Blair and Berlusconi are terrible debaters but quite good orators, they won elections, and most American commentators seem more interested in McCain comming across as a cankerous old man.

  16. steph says:

Sorry, should say: “cantankerous old man”.

  17. CalTex says:

throughout the beginning of the speech though Mccain was specific about his financial plan and it seemed to me that Obama was just throwing blame. Mccain actually (for once) gave information that I looked up. If Obama provided more specific evidence I would be so elated. I am dissappointed because I liked Obama way more than Mccain. At least he is still ahead though. :-)

  18. CalTex says:

Oh yeah I like how Obama has a plan to end this travesty of a war in Iraq. That is what boosted him up I think.

  19. kayinmaine says:

The economy is boosting him because right now most Americans KNOW it’s the republicans who spent the years of 2002-2006 effing over the country by not using their lead in both Houses to pass pro-American bills/resolutions. All we got was the Terry Schiavo stunts and other bullshit.
