I’m on the Media Matters mailing list and got a generated invite from Erin Hofteig along with everyone else asking to join the Media Matters team on Tuesday at the Convention in Colorado for some cocktails. I wrote Erin back to tell her I wouldn’t be going to the Convention and to remind her to bring her boxing gloves & to wear some shin guards, and then ended my email with a “*progressive fist bump*” for some unity. Well, she emailed back laughing her butt off! I’m thinking it might be fun to call her during the Media Matters cocktail party (if I can, of course, it’s during my workday) to find out if anyone is passed out on the floor! It would be absolutely hysterical.

My first observation today. Morning Joe of MSNBC (bluck) is at the Democratic National Convention this morning and reporting live from there. Terry McAuliffe (sp?) of Hillary’s campaign shows up unannounced and what does Mika do? She acts like a FREAKING GROUPIE by screaming and then jumping ONTO Terry’s body and pretty much wrapping her legs around him while holding on tight! What the hell!!!!! This is the media. Holy cow. How embarrassing.
If Mika whips out a dildo live on the air if Hillary walks by I’m going to vomit.
And Mika has a freaking skirt on for crying out loud! Hillary/McCain’s female supporters have zero kooth.
I am not even watching TV this morning. If it will be like all weekend, the talking heads will be stirring their pot of controversy trying to make it look like Denver is full of tension and feuding.
Joe Scarborough reminded everyone this weekend that Biden was from a poor blue-collar family whereas Obama went to an ELITE Honolulu PRIVATE high school and then on to Harvard. What Morning Joe didn’t say was that Obama only got to go to those school because he was a needy student who was also BRIGHT! The Republicans are doing their best to keep the “elite” tag on Barack.

Just got back from the doctor’s office and finally turned on TV. ALL the “talking heads” are talking about are the Clintons and their unhappy supporters. They have essentially turned the Democratic Convention into the Clinton Convention. It’s all about THEM, not Obama and Biden. Hillary could have released her delegates months ago but she waits until the first day of the convention to grab headlines. There is nobody in the “best political team in television” or anywhere else talking much about what Obama and Biden will do. Isn’t this the purpose of conventions anymore, to introduce the candidates? Instead the main topic on cablenews (and Limbaugh and his ilk) is hurt feelings and dissension among Democrats in Denver.
Now the big story today is that Bill Clinton is miffed because he was assigned a speech topic for Wednesday night, when the convention theme has been set as “Securing America’s Future. The night’s speakers have been asked to argue that Obama would be a more effective commander-in-chief than Sen. John McCain. Maybe it is because Bill thinks Hillary should be “commander-in-chief” and doesn’t want to portray Obama as “the future”?
According to Clintonite “leaks”, the Clenis is smarting because he wants to talk about the economy and more broadly about Democratic ideas — emphasizing the contrast between the Bush years and his own record in the 1990s. How about his record of not being able to keep his penis in his pants that was responsible in part for Al Gore losing in 2000?
If the Clintons think they can sabotage 2008 so Hillary has another chance in 2012 (when McCain may not even run for a second term), I will definitely vote for a “real” Republican instead of for a Republican-lite Clinton.
Traditionally, the other party lays off campaigning for the week of the rival party’s convention. For one thing, they used to never get any news coverage. Word is out that McCain will go on making appearances this week and be playing up the “divisiveness” in the Democratic Party.

Paul Krugman writes in his NY Times column that attacking McCain on a personal level, including pointing out how many homes he owns and that he is not a “regular guy,” is acceptable in this campaign because the Republicans have already been smearing Obama.
Americans are sick of Republican rule, he says, and the race is going to come down to personalities. People will need to be convinced that Obama is untrustworthy in order for McCain to win, and that is why the McCain camp is resorting to negative tactics. He says Obama must respond in kind to win.

With the best of intentions (politicians excepted) they want to equalize the slices and make things fair. When you get a big slice, mine is smaller. That ain’t fair, so you should be forced to give some of your slice to me. Reasonable, fair, and compassionate-right? Maybe, but what if the guy who got the bigger slice worked harder, took more risks, sacrificed to get an education in the school of hard knocks or in college or trade school? Should part of his slice be given to the guy who chooses to be a slacker? What if the rich guy contributed more ingredients and made the pie bigger. Bigger you say? Oh yes, the pie is not a static size. It shrinks and it expands.
Life is not fair, and no matter how hard we try, we cannot equalize people nor legislate fairness and still retain a FREE ENTERPRISE economy that has proven to be the most successful in the world. Who gets to decide, after all, what your slice of the pie will be? Trying to do this usually brings disastrous results and ignores the fact that we are different in our motivations and that lives and tax laws are complex.
Most of us want to succeed. Money, whether we like it or not, is one of the measures of success-not the only one nor even the most important one, but we all must have it. If we punish success, we get less of it. The pie stops growing or even shrinks. I know it is hard to believe, but many of the movers and shakers in our economy will stop making their fair share of the pie.
You say, “How can this be? Either a person makes a lot of money or he doesn’t, right? Greedy capitalists are just not going to start making less money. Even if one does, he might control the size of his slice, but he can’t control the size of the pie. If we tax him more, the government can keep his slice smaller and make our slices bigger.” I say, “He can, he does, he always has, and he will in the future.” If you reduce his slice of the pie through punishing success, he will control the size of the pie and keep everybody’s slice from growing. He doesn’t do it to hurt others; he does it because it is instinctive and it is wise. Said another way, if the government gets too intrusive, everybody’s slice shrinks. Bye, bye, American Pie.

Eisenhower was not racist and was the first to use the National Guard to integrate Little Rock Central High School and ended up with 40% of the black vote which began leaving the “Party of Lincoln” under FDR. I feared a Hillary VP choice as I am sure my family might have gone back and vote Republican as they cannot stand the Clintons. They were mostly McCain supporters in 2000 against Bush whom they never really liked much. Now they apologize to me for voting for him. In fact, my brother was initially for Joe Biden last fall and then warmed up to Obama. They all jumped over and voted in the Democratic primary here for Obama.
