Today, State Rep. Terry Hayes, who represents Buckfield, Hartford, Paris, and Sumner, gave her volunteers and supporters a party to thank us for our time and commitment to her. Well, it should be the other way around! Terry Hayes, who is running for her 2nd term this year, is one of those people who you know is always thinking of you and working hard for you when she’s up in Augusta. Not only is a she a Maine Native (with the snarky sense of humor we’re all known for!), but she is a small business owner and understands what is needed to help improve the business climate here in our state. Those of us who haven’t known Terry for too, too long (like me) and those who have known her for a good portion of her life (many were there today!) are grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment to the people of our area and our state. We should be giving her a party instead!
The party was held at one of her good friend’s home in Hartford. This home is over 200 years old and has been in the owner’s family for five generations. It’s off the beaten path and nestled in the woods. The views from the wraparound porch were breathtaking. What a nice way for anyone to show their thanks then to allow us into this beautiful old Maine home! Thank you.
Here’s some photos from today’s gathering…
(Rep. Terry Hayes and Michelle Beaudin, who is the Regional Director for Oxford & Franklin Counties)
(Gorgeous fireplace! This fireplace is in the new section of the old home. Again…just gorgeous! My camera doesn’t do it justice!)
When you step outside onto the side porch, here is the view that hits you! The trees just seem to roll on forever from this height.
Some of the volunteers/supporters of Terry having some yummy food at the diningroom table. Michelle Beaudin is on the right.
One of Terry’s banners hanging from the loft, which is actually the homeowner’s (husband) office. What a view he has! Below this loft is the livingroom with the spectacular stone fireplace. The husband tells me this section of the house was completely done without nails. It’s put together with wooden rods and based on construction of the old part of the home. Very cool.
I love, love, love old homes (as you can tell) and the husband was kind enough to take me through the old part of the house. The old pumpkin pine boards were everywhere (some were painted over but you could still see the huge width of these incredible floors). When we got to his wife’s office, the first thing he showed me was her “filing cabinet”. Turns out, this is one of the original old ice refrigerators! So cool. Originally, this refrigerator was built into the wall in the kitchen. It’s huge. Again, my camera doesn’t do it justice, but I love, love, love the pumpkin colored stain on the wains coating. Gorgeous!
As I was leaving, I had to take a picture of the Green Acres Inn that rests to the left of the main house. At some point in the history of this home, the barn was turned into a place for the tourists to stay and enjoy. Love it! A typical scene here in Maine is the mismatched chairs on the porch. Well, this old Inn has the same charm. None two are alike!
Rep. Terry Hayes is going to win her 2nd term in November. No doubt about it. She (and her friends) truly represents what Maine is all about…which is hard work, take each day as it comes, and don’t forget to be humble and thankful to those around you. I think I speak for the rest of the people there when I say we’re thankful for Terry Hayes! She’s a hahd werkah withah wicked good sensah of humah!
And thanks so much to Leslie and her husband for opening up their beautiful home to all of us. We really do appreciate it.

I haven’t seen Democrats this organized since I switched registrations and became one in 1965. I hope this pays off big time in November.
According to campagn finance reports, Rep. Hayes is a publicly funded candidate. You can view the reports here: http://www.mainecampaignfinance.com/public/report_list.asp?TYPE=CAN&ID=3641&LIMIT=&YEAR=2008
As a pubicly funded candidate, is it proper for her to use taxpayers’ money to throw a party? If she used her own money for what is clearly a campaign event, is she violating the Clean Elections law?
Uh Ken? She is a Clean Election candidate and her friend Leslie who owns the home is the one who did the cooking as well as provided her house for this party. It was not a party paid for by Terry Hayes. It was a typical weekend BBQ here in Maine.
Thanks for the opportunity to point this out.
I see Ken and the Boys over on As Maine Goes have their undies all twisted about this party! LOL

No alcohol was served, but iced tea & lemonade was. We ate burgers, salad, potato salad, and had some yummy deserts. Terry Hayes did not purchase one thing for this party. It was completely done by the homeowners. No different than when a neighbor has a BBQ and invites you over. There was no money exchanged and this was not a fundraiser. Terry doesn’t have to report anything because there’s nothing to report! As a Clean Election Candidate, she already has the money she needs to run and we as her volunteers are “paying her” with our time.
Get it now? Can you handle this, Boys? If you’re really concerned about election fraud you might want to focus your attention to Sen. Suzie-Q Collins campaign! Thanks.
Since when did reich-wingers become concerned about “clean campaigns”??? They must be having a hard time even raising dirty money.
LOL Grant! Exactly.
