Pictures & reflections of the 2008 Maine Democratic State Convention

The appropriate music to listen to as you read this post.
I would say this year’s Maine Democratic State Convention was historic in size, because the last number of attendees I heard was hovering around 3700 people. A record! Almost two thirds of the Augusta Civic Center was filled. Amazing! The people of our state (and country) are outraged after almost eight years of fascist dictatorship and WE WANT CHANGE. We want real change…and not the kind of “change” that goes from Bush Sr to Bill Clinton to George Bush and back to Hillary Clinton. Nope….we want REAL CHANGE and that change is Barack Obama! Woohoo!
FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2008 MAINE DEMOCRATIC STATE CONVENTION
Here’s a quick shot of the Augusta Civic Center as I was walking up to the building on Friday afternoon…
I was happy to see Tom Allen & Chellie Pingree signs in large numbers coming up to the Convention…
Ahhhh, but when I saw that Hillary supporters had put her signs down on the sidewalk to make an “H”, I thought it was very appropriate. Lots of foot marks from people walking on “her”. That mood carried on too. What was so interesting was the amount of Hillary Clinton signs outside and inside the Convention. Tons of them! These signs outnumbered the amount of Barack Obama signs. One woman came up to me and said, “I’m a little discouraged seeing all those Hillary Clinton signs”, and I said back to her, “Well, it’s all how you look at it. I see these signs as a SIGN OF DESPERATION on the part of the Hillary supporters”. She smiled and said, “I think you’re right!”. I was right. I always am. /end lispy snark
Footprints all over them! Bah hahahahaha! Sorry. I just had to laugh again. It was a priceless sight.
Once inside the building, I headed to the Convention floor with my credentials draped around my neck (felt very proud to be an Obama delegate! Nice feeling) and found the Oxford County Dems section. Starting on the left in this picture is Cathy Newell (Oxford County Dem Chair), Roy Gedat (Oxford County Dem Vice Chair), and Roy’s “wife” (they’ve been together for a long time), Julie. Roy & Julie are supporting different candidates. He’s supporting Barack Obama and Julie supports Hillary Clinton. I’m sure that is happening all across this country…couples choosing different candidates to support. Makes for interesting dinner chatter…or…in some cases, a trip to the couch to sleep on for the night. Also, Cathy won an award on Saturday which reflected her amazing leadership of the Oxford County Dems to keep us organized and raising fists full of money! Cathy is truly a force. She has the right personality & perseverance to lead us and when you’re around her, you just want to help her in any way you can! Congratulations Ms. Cathy for a job well done! We were so proud to jump up from our chairs to hoot and holler for you. It was well deserved. We Oxford County Dems rock!
Here’s the Turn Maine Blue guys (Gerald on left & EddieInME on right). It was so great to meet them after all this time of talking (and arguing! LOL) with them online. They hung out in the Ethan Strimling room on Friday evening, which was rocking with a live band, drinks, and just plain loudness all around. The room was crazy and so “out of place” (or should I say it was more “progressive” than the others? LOL) considering when walking by the other candidate’s rooms down the hallway near Strimling’s room, the people in those rooms were quiet, calm, and talking about the issues over glasses of chardonnay! I loved the difference. Strimling’s room totally stood out from the rest.
US Congressman Mike Michaud gave a rousing speech to the Democrats on Friday night. He is MUCH LOVED and it showed. Why is he loved? As a former mill worker in Northern Maine, he’s one of us. He reflects the working people of our state and he has the inner fortitude to tell it like it is and not cower in the face of adversity. He’s a TRUE DEMOCRAT…
When he was in the foyer before heading to the Convention floor, I got the chance to meet him. I thanked him for going on record on IMPEACHMENT OF DICK CHENEY (and the rest of the Thugs) and made the point that even if impeachment never happens, I am so proud of him for standing up for the rule of law in this country and his stance will reflect favorably upon him in the years to come. Guess what he said? He said impeachment still isn’t out of reach. Wow! I hope he’s right. With Robert Wexler subpoenaing Scott McClellan about his book’s information and what else Scott knows, Michaud said it was a good sign. Let’s hope he’s right! Right before this picture was snapped, I told Michaud I was a political blogger here in Maine and after taking a picture of him, he said, “Don’t you want a picture of you with me?”, and I said, “As a blogger, I’m normally not in the picture….but okay!”. This is why we’re laughing and why my freaking eyes are closed! Good gawd, can I have a good picture of me please? Open your eyes girl! LOL
SIDEBAR NOTE: What was also embarrassing was the fact I was still in my work clothes on Friday night when I met Congressman Michaud. I left work and traveled from Cape Elizabeth to Augusta (long drive people!) to get my delegate credentials so I wouldn’t be stressed out on Saturday morning and was then going to head home to get a good night’s sleep. Didn’t happen that way! I ended up staying for the whole evening (in my work clothes, mind you) because it was rumored that Barack Obama was going to call his supporters in the “Obama Room” @ 8:30pm. Why the hell would I miss that???? No way! I stayed and it turns out that he wasn’t the one who called in, but rather, someone from his national campaign did instead, which was fine because he got us all pumped up anyways!
The Obama Room on Friday evening…
SATURDAY, MAY 31, 2008 MAINE DEMOCRATIC STATE CONVENTION
It’s a good thing I got my delegate credential on Friday night, because here’s the traffic jam on 95 North heading to the Augusta Civic Center, Exit 112A. This picture is taken of my side mirror @ 8:30am as I sat in traffic about a mile from the exit. It took 30 minutes to drive that mile. I kept thinking, “Good gawd! How many delegates/alternates are in these cars who are not going to reach the 9am deadline to check in!!!”. Luckily my panic was soothed once I got to the Convention after hearing the officials had moved up the deadline time up to accommodate everyone on both sides (Obama/Clinton supporters), because of this traffic jam…
Saturday at the Convention was a very interesting day, because the mood was much different that it was the night before. Why? Because Saturday was the day we delegates were to cast our vote for either Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or for “Uncommitted”. Can I say something first about the difference between the Obama supporters and the Clinton supporters? Well, let’s just say on Saturday the Obama supporters were excited, energetic, youthful (even if they were of…*cough*…a certain age), and looking forward to the day, whereas, the Clinton supporters were walking around with scowls on their faces looking old & tired, and they had the body language and cockiness to match it. What a difference! Wow. I felt like I was hanging around with the Gathering of Eagles morons who are just there to pick a fight to state their pathetic rants about what they believe in. Truly, the Clinton supporters were no different than any neocon I’ve witnessed in my real life or online.
If I was a Hillary Clinton supporter, I would be embarrassed, because after eight years of right wing madness they’re now acting just like them! The End.
Anyways…
Some signs & shirts at the Convention…
Here’s the Obama sign I held up along with some Obama pins (one is a Chellie Pingree pin) and a anti-Bush bumper sticker…
The following sign cracked me up. Diane Denk wants to be a Maine delegate at the National Convention, so she along with others there are running for that honor. Well, her signs throughout the Convention were absolutely hysterical and filled with the sarcastic humor we’ve all come to enjoy of REAL LIBERALS. The following sign is the famous Abbey Lane picture of the Beatles, but starting from the left, the “heads” are….future Senator Tom Allen, Michelle Obama, Diane Denk, and then Barack Obama! Hysterical!!! She had another poster that showed her with an Obama mustache! LOL…
I couldn’t wait to get a picture of this father & daughter, because I feel they represent the TRUE SUPPORTERS of Barack Obama. The ROM (republican owned media) and the Hillary Clinton/John McCain (at least 11 houses between the two of them and together they’re worth hundreds of millions of dollars! Can you say, “Hedge funds & Holdings in the Military Industrial Complex?) supporters like to call Barack Obama an elitist who is only getting votes from either blacks or those with tons of money. Well, hate to tell ya this, but that’s not the case at all! Here’s the LARGE PERCENTAGE OF OBAMA SUPPORTERS who are hard working individuals and see Obama as REAL change and not more of the same…
The wife & son also wore the same t-shirts. The husband is a retired boilermaker and is proud to be a Union member. On the back of these t-shirts it reads, “BOILERMAKERS FOR CHANGE”. I’m proud of him too….as the daughter of a retired paper mill Union worker, I am so proud I completely understand where this family is coming from! They don’t see Obama as an elitist. They see him as one of us.
Here’s former Maine House Speaker, Glenn Cummings, talking about why he supports Barack Obama…
(thanks to Jessica of PolitickerME for posting this video!)
Here’s a view of the floor before the county caucuses convened (kind of blurry, pictures taken inside the Convention were difficult in getting the lighting right)…
Another view…
The County Caucuses were to convene at 12pm on Saturday, but there was a delay in getting started because the alternates who showed up (thankfully! Give yourselves a high five people!) were huge in number and before the caucuses can convene alternate delegates have to be upgraded to delegate level if needed. Here’s a shot of the Alternate Delegates Room…
The poor things were crowded in this room like cattle! They could not leave this room until the process was over. And they were not happy. From PolitikerME, I discovered that Rita Moran (who was running as a DNC Woman candidate and is also the Kennebec Dems Chair) was upset. (CLICK HERE TO READ WHAT HAPPENED)
While the alternate delegates were being upgraded, the Convention was well underway. The Hillary Supporters were the first to take the floor to show their support of her. They were lined up in the foyer prior to going out. And guess what? Because they had to wait awhile before heading to the floor, the WATB’s (whiny assed titty babies) Hillary supporters BLAMED THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS for this. Yep, the “hard working white people” that Hillary says she represents were blaming everyone else for standing to wait and wanted to “make clear” that this was a conspiracy against them!
This was the Hillary supporters attitude throughout Saturday. Apparently, they want everyone to feel bad for them, so they set everyone up by acting like THEY’RE JUST VICTIMS IN ALL OF THIS. Unfreakingbelievable! Honestly, as a hard working white person myself, I couldn’t believe how they were acting.
Anyways, here’s the Obama supporters in the foyer as we walked to the Convention floor to show our support. The difference of loudness between the Obama supporters & the Clinton supporters once on the floor? Oh boy! Obama supporters were twice as loud and outnumbered the Hillary people by at least double! So proud. Like I said above, the amount of Hillary signs throughout the Civic Center was a SIGN OF DESPERATION and not a true reflection of who was going to come out on top.
Most of the county caucuses were held inside the Augusta Civic Center, but for Oxford County we had to travel over a mile from the Convention to hold our caucus. Here’s a view of us when we first got there…
Want to hear the best story of the day? Bah hahahahaha! Oh gawd. It still cracks me up. The Hillary supporters are insane neocons and here’s why….
When myself and other Oxford County Democratic delegates left the Augusta Civic Center to go to the off-site location, we found 4 yellow school buses sitting out front of the building. Each bus had signs in the window stating the various counties in our state. The people I was with saw “Oxford” on one bus, so we went up to it and asked the bus driver if we could take the bus instead of driving (much better for the environment to take one bus rather than tons of cars). He was fine with it. Well….from out of the shadows came this spleeny looking guy who was a Hillary supporter. He came up to us squeezing his butt cheeks together like he had a crowbar up his ass and yelled like a big asshole, “These are Hillary buses! They are for Hillary supporters only!!! They are paid for by the campaign and no Obama supporters are allowed on them!!!!”. I looked at him and said, “We not republicans for crying out loud…we’re on the same page!”. He refused to let us on the bus.
Anyways, here’s where it gets good…
Our county caucus had a delayed start as you know (another view is below), so as time ticked by apparently the Hillary buses that were used to take ONLY Hillary supporters over were coming up on their deadline to be returned. So late in the afternoon the same spleeny little Hillary supporter asshole says to the Oxford delegates (paraphrasing) in the room, “For anyone who came over on the bus who is a Hillary supporter, the buses have to be back at the Civic Center by 5:30pm, so you have to leave now on the bus if you want to be able to pick your car up to come back here, otherwise, YOU WILL HAVE TO BUM A RIDE FROM SOMEONE HERE TO GET BACK TO THE CIVIC CENTER”. I immediately leaned over to Mary who was sitting next to me (also an Obama supporter who was refused access to these buses as were most and who got the jerky treatment of this little spleeny asshole), and said to her, “If one of those assholes needs a ride from me, I’m peeling out and leaving with just me in the car!!!”. Then the guy immediately says to the Obama delegates in the room, “I would like to take this time to apologize to anyone who wanted to get on these buses and weren’t able to. Please know that we didn’t have the room and it wasn’t because you didn’t support our candidate”. Yep! He’s now apologizing to us after treating us like we were republicans or something, BECAUSE HE NOW KNOWS THAT NONE OF US ARE GOING TO HELP HIM OUT NOW! Loved it. isn’t that interesting? They hate us unless they need us. Bah hahahahahahaha!
SIDEBAR NOTE: Oh please, Hillary supporters! You can all eff off now! You are not team players. You’re nothing but a bunch of WATBs neocons who don’t deserve to win a watermelon seed spitting contest at this point!
Here’s the five under-21 delegates who were part of our caucus. Guess what? Not one of them was a Hillary supporter. Interesting. (If you click on the picture above, the front row consists of Hillary supporters. Again, old & tired comes to mind…)
It’s so great to see the young people coming out to help the Maine Democratic Party! We need all of you and we look forward to your youthful perspective and ideas! (((((HUGS)))))
And here’s my official vote for Barack Obama! Woohoo!
UPDATE FROM REBECCA POLLARD OF THE MAINE DEMOCRATIC PARTY:
(AUGUSTA, MAINE) – Maine Democrats from Lyman to Limestone convened in Augusta to a sum of approximately 3,700, far exceeding attendance expectations for the 2008 Maine Democratic Convention.
>
The county caucuses elected a portion of Maine’s pledged delegates to Denver. The remaining portion will be elected tomorrow. However, the numbers that each presidential candidate received have been determined.
>
The results upheld the proportion of delegates that Maine voters elected at the February caucuses. Maine will send 15 pledged delegates for Senator Obama and 9 for Senator Clinton to Denver-the same result as the projected delegate allocations following the caucuses
Woohoo!!! Barack Obama remained on top and Mainers pulled through once again! Not bad for a bunch of “elitists”. Bah hahahahahahaha! *wink*
After the Oxford County Dems caucus adjourned, me and another delegate, Elisha, decided to go back to the Augusta Civic Center to hear Senator Dick Durbin give his keynote address to the delegates. Well, because the whole day was at least 3 hours behind schedule, Durbin’s speech was pushed up from 6:00pm to 9:30pm and we decided to go home rather than wait around for another 3 hours or so to hear him speak. Yes I know, “Bad Kay! Bad bad bad girl!”.
I’m hoping someone got him on YouTube and if that is the case, I will post the video link in the comment section of this post.
SUNDAY, JUNE 1, 2008 MAINE DEMOCRATIC STATE CONVENTION
Oops. No pictures. In fact, I didn’t even go today. I called Cathy Newell earlier this morning and she said our caucus had not reconvened yet and to not worry if I didn’t come. Basically today at the Convention, the Maine Democratic Party Platform rules (THE MAINE DEPARTMENT OF PEACE made some headway on Saturday when the Platform Rules were being voted on and Maine Democrats voted to approve it! Wonderful!) were going to continue to be voted on (it was tabled on Saturday) and most of the day would be getting the election results in. At-Large Democratic National Convention Delegates would be voted on today too. So, I don’t have pictures for today. Saturday was the most important of all 3 days.
Well, that’s pretty much my experience at my first Maine Democratic State Convention as a delegate! It truly was a fun time and being around like minded Democrats is always a good thing. I can’t express enough about how important it is to get involved in your local county Democratic Chapter. I wished I had done this a long time ago, but as we all know, it’s Barack Obama who has awoken the “beasts” of our party and we are thankful for him in doing so! One person pointed out Howard Dean’s words years ago (paraphrasing), “If you’re only voting and not participating, then you get a D+ as a grade”. So true. If you’re only voting, you’ll become disenfranchised at some point. WE ALL NEED TO PARTICIPATE IF WE WANT REAL CHANGE TO OCCUR! It’s our party and we make it what we want it to be.
Go BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last vote count I got after the Oxford County Dems adjourned was…
71 for Obama
55 for Clinton
15 delegates will go for Barack Obama at the National Convention in Colorado
9 delegates for Hillary Clinton
Woohoo! Maine Democrats didn’t waiver too far from what we had done during a blizzard back in February 2008. It was noted at the Oxford County caucus that some Hillary delegates did cross over and voted for Barack Obama. Love it!
This is what pisses me off about MI & FL….the voters who did not show up to vote on their primary day knowing the rules & knowing their vote wouldn’t be counted are THE PISSED OFF VOTERS. Also, how many of those voters who originally voted for Hillary but have changed their minds since then? This is why I think the state parties of these states should have done a revote OR NOT COUNT THE FINAL TALLY. Again, after witnessing the Hillary supporters yesterday, THEY FEEL THEY’RE ENTITLED TO BREAK THE RULES/LAWS to DISENFRANCHISE those they want to.
Bunch of bullshit. I’m pissed by the decision yesterday.
June 1st, 2008 @ 1:58 pm
awesome Kay! I’m so happy you were there to tell us about what happened there.
Michigan and Florida should not have counted at all. That is what everyone agreed to before Hillary started losing and decided the rules didnt matter anymore.
Now Hillary got half of what she wanted (more then she deserves) and now will take it to the convention, ensuring a McCain victory.
Also, I was disgusted by the Hillary supporters yesterday shouting “Denver!” and booing Obama supporters. Can you imagine what will happen if during Obama’s speech accepting the nomination at the convention if people start booing and chanting Hillary? It will be a disaster.
June 1st, 2008 @ 2:01 pm
Thanks Chris! I had a terrific time.
Here’s what was decided BEFORE THE PRIMARY/CAUCUS SEASON:
http://news.aol.com/elections-blog/2007/08/26/dnc-eliminates-fla-primary-delegates/
Neither MI or FL delegates should count even at 50%.
And Chris….the Hillary supporters are embracing the republic party and it shows. Sore losers they are!!!!! Well, I suppose, that’s what being a neocon is all about. Next the Hillary supporters will start gunning down Obama supporters. Why? They’re a bunch of ugly Americans who live on hate. The End.
June 1st, 2008 @ 5:26 pm
WOW!!!!!!!Thanks for sharing the Convention experience. You are inspiring…would not be surprised if you ran for public office in about 20 years and won…..Perhaps after the convention the Hillary crowd can just be republics. We have enough new dems. to let them go.
June 1st, 2008 @ 7:17 pm
I’m back. Who missed me?
Up the Revolution! Down neocon thugs! Up Obama!!!!
June 1st, 2008 @ 9:00 pm
I am still f’in pissed. We were walking by the Somerset County
>bus to take delegates to the off site location and there was this elderly man we know looking for a ride.
>The guy is like 100 yo, handicapped and could barely stand.
>When he attempted to board the bus, he was told he couldn’t
>get on it because he was an Obama delegate.
>
>The four of us spanned out trying to find the guy a ride. We
>were Penobscot delegates and were caucusing on site, but of
>course one of us would have volunteered to drive him. I went
>to the Obama table and the great staff there offered to drive
>him to his caucus spot. In the meantime, two of our party
>found the poor man a ride.
>
>I still can’t believe the pettiness of it. If it has been
>reversed, I know the Obama bus would have found a seat for the
>man. Plus I feel so bad because of the humiliation this guy
>must have felt.
>
>I really want to complain to someone. I just am so embarrassed
>about how some people reacted today.
>
>Anyway…Peace!
June 1st, 2008 @ 9:23 pm
Enjoyed the bus story. Thought you would like to know a similar story with the Knox Caucus. We were sent to UMA campus, not too far really, but some people still wanted to ride the bus because they are old or its raining or whatever. Like you they were turned away. Later in the caucus room we were waiting and waiting and waiting for the Hillary folks to show up on the bus. They never came. When after waiting several HOURS and sending runners back over to the convention center to no avail to look for them, we decided to proceed without them , the Hillarites groaned that it was “not fair!” We never did find out what happened to them. The missing 6. (Is this “Change you can count on” Hillary?) Rumor had it the bus driver quit and left them there and they could not figure out how to get themselves to the caucus location. Maybe they were driven to Milo and just left there. Who knows.
All fired up and ready to go for Obama! Sarah
June 2nd, 2008 @ 6:59 am
Hi Molly! I had a wicked good time.
Run for office? LOL That would be interesting, huh?
Hi MaineDem in Somerset County! Thanks so much for stopping by and reaffirming my experience with the Hillary buses. Can you believe those assholes? I think they reflect Hillary and how she’s run her campaign and how she’s argued for breaking the laws/rules of the DNC to get the MI/FL delegates seated for her! To me, she’s a neocon just like George Bush and had those been Bush buses you can bet your sweet bippy one of the bus drivers would have ran over the man in the wheelchair. Unfreakingbelievable. I loved it when the Hillary supporter’s buses were coming up to the deadline to be returned and suddenly they WANTED TO MAKE NICE WITH THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS! Bah hahahahaha! I was being serious when I said in my post that I wouldn’t give one of them a ride. No way in hell, and it’s too bad too, because normally I would have. Oh well. They set the mood all day on Saturday and it was good to see them get some well deserved Karma.
I would contact the Maine Democratic Party at http://www.mainedems.org. Go right to the top to Arden Manning!
Hi Sarah in Knox County! The Hillary bus driver quit? *screaming laughter* Bah hahahahahaha! And then the “hard working white people” couldn’t figure out how to get to their off-site location? Bah hahahahaha! Can you imagine what they and Hillary would do at 3am if the phone should ring? I’m scared to find out and this is why I’m happy to have Barack Obama in the future answering the phone at that time!
Sarah, “Not fair!” is the campaign slogan for Hillary Clinton. What a bunch of WATBs (whiny assed titty babies) they all are!
One story I forgot to mention in my post was when me and two other Obama delegates from Oxford County went to the ladies room after our caucus had adjourned. While in there, we were all talking about Obama and the Iraq occupation. Just kind of chit chatting. We didn’t say one thing about Hillary or her supporters either. So, while we were on the toilet we were chit chatting and I noticed there was a woman in the stall beside me. I hear the two Obama delegates start washing their hands and we’re still chit chatting. Well, the woman in the stall next to me sat perfectly still. I’m serious! She did not move her feet. Why? She was listening like she was a mole for the Hillary campaign. After I finished, I went out to wash my hands as well, and we’re all still talking. I motioned to them to look at this woman’s feet. She was still sitting there motionless! It was so weird. What the hell was she doing? LOL Are Hillary supporters insane? Why yes they are.

From Rebecca Pollard of the Maine Democratic Party:
The results of elections throughout the weekend were finalized Sunday.
Democrats selected the 24 delegates and 3 alternates that will cast their votes in Denver at the Democratic National Convention. Maine will send 15 pledged delegates for Senator Obama and 9 for Senator Clinton to Denver-the same result as the projected delegate allocations following the caucuses.
“Maine voters who took part in the Democratic Caucus in February should feel positive about this weekend’s results because the proportion of delegates they elected was upheld, without change,” said Rebecca Pollard, spokeswoman for the Maine Democratic Party.
Delegates this weekend also elected the four Presidential Electors, individuals who will each cast Maine’s ballot for President in November-one for each of Maine’s electoral votes. The individuals are: Tracie Reed, of Portland, Robert “Obie” O’Brien of Peaks Island, Sam Shapiro of Waterville, and Jill Duson of Portland.
The election for DNC Committeeman and Committeewoman resulted in victories by Maggie Allen, former Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party, over Rita Moran, and Sam Spencer, the current DNC Committeeman who will maintain his seat after running unopposed. These individuals will not take office until after the convention in Denver, and will serve four-year terms. In addition to Spencer, the current DNC Committeewoman, Jennifer DeChant, are superdelegates in this year’s presidential nominating process.
I love Rita Moran, but am so pleased to see Maggie Allen take it! Her speech was very inspirational to me and I couldn’t wait to cast my vote for her.

She wasn’t alone in being taken aback by the Hillary supporters either! I bet all Obama supporters who were there this weekend have similar stories. I am proud to say the Obama supporters were energetic, nice, smiling, and so happy to be there! The Hillary supporters? “Waiting in the shadows with billy-clubs”. Sad pathetic bunch they were.

Ahem… I said I’m back. Who missed me? I missed you.
June 2nd, 2008 @ 11:44 am
Hi Gage! (((((HUGGING YOU BECAUSE YOU’RE BACK))))) Of course, we missed you! Where did you go or can you not publicly say? LOL By the way, Grantinhouston is in Alaska for a couple weeks. We miss his voice too.
I’m at work right now, hence, no gravatar next to my name. Talk to you later!

I saw the Boilermaker shirts and thought you had a contingency from Purdue University.
June 2nd, 2008 @ 4:18 pm
The Minnesota republicans had a little get together in Rochester, Minnesota over the weekend. First they wouldn’t even allow Ron Paul into the convention and secondly Fat Karl Rove was one of the speakers. Of course the asshole was spewing fear and brought up such “big” issues as Barack Obama not wearing a flag lapel pin and that he wants to hold talks with Iran and other evil doers not in the Bush administration. God I hope republicans are smarter than that, and see what a McBush administration would give us as opposed to a Obama administration.
June 2nd, 2008 @ 4:18 pm
What about Ox???
June 2nd, 2008 @ 4:54 pm
Kay, Kay, Kay… her speech may have been inspiring, but it said nothing about the DNC. All of that stuff she mentioned? She has no control over any of that. Compare that to Rita’s speech, which was about stuff the DNC actually does control… like superdelegates.
I listened to Maggie’s speech with a volunteer out of morbid curiosity, and we looked at each other and both said the same thing: “She creamed us, because instead of voting for who would do the job, they’re going for who tugged the heartstrings.” And we were right. People want change, but then when it’s offered to them, they vote for experience almost every time- whether it’s good or bad.
I’ve got some stories from the campaign trail that I don’t plan on publishing… but all I will say is, all is not kosher. If you want them, you can find my phone number, but I expect that stuff to be between you and I, not published for the world to see.
June 2nd, 2008 @ 5:34 pm
Hi Ed! I knew Rita was an Obama supporter but to be honest with you, when I voted for Maggie, I wasn’t even thinking that she was a….oh the horror…a Hillary Clinton supporter! All I can say is I hope Maggie takes the energy she has and uses it EVEN IF
A BLACK MANOBAMA IS ON THE TICKET! We know how those Hillary supporters feel now, don’t we? Wow. Let’s hope Maggie will have an open mind and see past that. If she’s a neocon like the Hillary supporters we will be in trouble.I’ll email you to talk about what you witnessed. My lips are sealed.
June 2nd, 2008 @ 5:35 pm
LOL Robert. Not that kind of boilermaker! *screaming laughter*
Uncle, have no idea where Ox is. Maybe he’s over lambasting me over on the Unruly Snobs or the other pathetic Kay-Hating blog(s). Hey could be!
June 2nd, 2008 @ 6:27 pm
I’m glad Maggie won, too. Rita seemed a bit too phony for me. Like she was trying too hard.
To be honest, I think the deciding factor for me was the speech Rita gave on Friday night. I felt that instead of giving a welcome from the county she was campaigning. That struck me as unfair and I’ve heard from others that she had too much time on stage that Maggie didn’t have.

Report: For Hillary Campaign, “No Plans Beyond Wednesday”
By Greg Sargent – June 2, 2008, 2:35PM
The Hillary campaign slows to a standstill, perhaps for good:
An email went out to all advance staffers of Sen. Hillary Clinton telling them there are no events on the candidate’s schedule beyond Wednesday remarks at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference.
The email told staffers this was not goodbye but there were no plans beyond Wednesday for now.
Interesting she appears to be ending her campaign telling AIPAC she couldn’t fool enough Americans for them this time.

Exactly Clif. It’s all about AIPAC isn’t it? Well, John McCain gave them some love today by saying Iran is in the crosshairs and he will send our troops in to save Israel even though Israel has at the very least….150 nukes! Yep. Americans continuing to die for Israel and to steal the oil. Unfreakingbelievable. I’m sure Hillary will campaign hard now for McCain. Her supporters made it very clear this past weekend that they will. Assholes.

Hi Guy, yes it was a bummer to hear Rita talking about the Kennebec Dems for most of her speech (she’s proud, what can I say?
) Let’s hope Maggie does something positive with the energy she’s got.

No, Kay, not a secret. I had some surgery, that’s all. Every once in a while, I go in for new parts. It’s how I stay young and beautiful.
Sounds like you had a great time this weekend. Good on you!
Still catching up. I’ll say something substantive when I know something to say. In the meantime, GO OBAMA!!!!
June 3rd, 2008 @ 6:50 am
Gage, you had surgery? I hope you’re okay! Well, you must be if you’re back to blogging now.
I had a great time this past weekend and the best part was Obama doing well here!
June 3rd, 2008 @ 1:46 pm
Kay, I’m always okay.

A great post…..the music is perfect and the convention was huge fun and a zoo as described….we dems really know how to make folks suffer. For all the first time attendees….an unfortunate but all too accurate reality. Lesson to remember – no good deed goes unpunished!
Thanks Kay.

Hey Kay,
Thanks for the shout out in the convention blog–though I will mention I am not a gray haired neocon exactly…guilty by association in my support of Hillary. I’ve said before–I’ll never be a black man but I’ll always be a woman. The whole sexist angle of “Hey Hillary, do my wash” is a a bummer to those of us women who run businesses, pay taxes, raise kids to be fine Democrat adults who actually vote and do good in the community… I do love your passion and agree Mike Michaud is awesome…and Bush blows…
Julie (you are not the only one who shows up in pics with her eyes closed)
June 3rd, 2008 @ 8:23 pm
Julie, I highly DOUBT the people holding up the protest signs you speak of are Democrats. They’re part of Rush Limbo’s Operation Chaos if you ask me. Democratic men and women think of women as equal to men. It’s the republican men of this country (the Monopoly Bankers as I like to call them…and neocons)who think women are only good for washing dishes and doing laundry.
I completely supported Bill & Hillary Clinton for years, but when I learned Hillary & Bill were chummy with the Bush family and Karl Rove was part of Hillary’s campaign, it was a complete turn off. I also didn’t like it that she felt she had to go after Bush’s base (the gun toting, whiskey swilling, duck hunting base) by acting just like them! She set feminism back years when she decided to act like one of the boys and thinking it was the only way she could win (and who the hell wants Bush’s base in their corner? I don’t! Yuck).
Anyways, thanks for your thoughts. Just because you supported Hillary doesn’t mean I’d turn my back on you. No way! Democrats rock, republicans are bluck.
June 3rd, 2008 @ 8:39 pm
Hey–rock on! I love that Democrats can have a discussion without having to lop off each others heads…argh, Karl Rove and Rush L.–those two nasties? don’t get me started! I’m thrilled that Dems are fired up and want to spend the weekend in a convention center plotting how to get our lovely Susie kicked to the curb, among others!
ps–no one has had to sleep on the couch at our house yet due to a political tussle

LOL Julie! Poor Roy….I bet he’s gotten an earful though some nights!
Where were you tonight by the way? We need more people making calls! Woohoo! Tonight we talked with the Uncommitted voters of the area. Yowser. Most were pretty nice, but I must say…I got a ton more hang-ups then I did when we call Democrats!
Can I say the Uncommitted are cranky right now? LOL
Have a great night Julie! Can’t wait to see you again.
