NBC has gone batshit crazy with power they shouldn’t even have!

What the hell is wrong with NBC and the other “news”programs that have decided to set benchmarks for the presidential candidates for them to participate in the televised debates or not? Who the hell gave these “news” programs the power to be able to squash the voice of a US citizen? Huh?
I can’t stand it. I’m tired of our fascist nation that George Bush & Dick Cheney have created. If you’re running for president and you have not quit the race, then I don’t see why they (democratic or republic) cannot participate in the debates!
NBC is right now in the process of excluding Dennis Kucinich from participating in tonight’s debate in Las Vegas.
From The Caucus at the New York Times (emphasis mine):
In his ruling, Mr. Thompson found NBC to be in breach of contract because Mr. Kucinich was invited to the debate on Jan. 9, only to be disinvited shortly thereafter. What changed? On Jan. 10, after two other Democratic candidates dropped out of the race, NBC revised its qualifying criteria for debate participants, requiring that invited candidates must have finished in the top three in either the Iowa caucus or the New Hampshire primary.
>
The revisions were “in no way designed to exclude any particular candidate based on his or her views,†wrote Chuck Todd, the political director for NBC News, in an affidavit to the Nevada Supreme Court. Instead, it represented “a good faith editorial choice of a privately-owned cable network to limit debate participants based on the status of their campaigns.â€
NBC revised their original qualifying criteria which Kucinich “passed” (totally ludicrous to even have to write that freaking word!)? NBC is cheating to push out a candidate that has opposing views, which tells me, Hillary/Obama/Edwards have their views, which is: MORE WAR, MORE WAR PROFITEERING, LESS SOCIAL PROGRAMS, MORE DEBT, A BULLSHIT ECONOMY, AND GAWD NO….NO IMPEACHMENT OR ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE BUSH REGIME! Well, there you have it. The guy who has always been against the Iraq invasion, who is for single payer healthcare, who is for impeaching Cheney & Bushie, who understands the US Constitution, who wants a better economy for the poor and middle class, and who thinks the contractors in Iraq and in Afghanistan can all pound sand………IS NOT WHAT NBC WANTS TO HEAR!
Isn’t that fucking nice? The ROM (republican owned media) hates the opposition and will squash it any way they can. Reich wing fascism is alive and well in America and we can thank NBC, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, Fox News, and the Bush Regime for it too! Bastards.
Updated | 6:11 p.m. One hour after the Supreme Court hearing was scheduled to conclude and three hours before the debate was expected to begin, the court had yet to announce a decision, leaving it unclear whether Mr. Kucinich would participate in the debate.
4:13 p.m. MSNBC continues to promote tonight’s Democratic presidential candidate debate, while the cable news network’s parent company awaits a ruling from the Nevada Supreme Court that will determine whether the forum may proceed without Dennis Kucinich.
You watch. The NBC lawyers will prolong this process as will the court. They can all pound sand. Even if Kucinich does not have a chance of hell in getting on the ballot, he still should be able to have the right to participate in the debates. I can understand if there were 50 people running on the Democratic ticket, but that’s not the case. There aren’t many, so why not give them all a chance to speak?
Someone is afraid, apparently. *rolling eyes*
Willie Nelson is supporting Kucinich in Texas. Seems the Texas Democratic Party is not allowing Kucinich to be on the ballot unless he signs an oath of loyalty to whichever Democrat wins there. Sign an oath of freaking loyalty? Are they insane? I don’t know if this is common in Texas within the Democratic party, but if it is….THEY SHOULD BE FREAKING ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!
I’m with Willie on this one…

Jack Cafferty of CNN calls Kucinich “a fiesty little dude”. Love that! What the vide here on Brad Blog:

While I am with you in spirit here, I have to say that Bush and Cheney did not create the mess we have now. We did. We elected the boneheads, not once but twice. Well, the first one had some questionable help, but we got what we apparently wanted. Every country usually ends up with the government they deserve. We need to be more involved citizens if we want better.
I found it suprising NBC would cut Kucinich out also. But it’s their show, they get to call the shots. IMO, presidential debates should be paid for and produced by non-profit organizations financed by the government. Put em on C-Span, or Public television. Cut big business right out of the loop.

Kay Keith Olbermann reported the supreme Court of Nevada refused Kucinich’s appeal to be included in the democratic debate.

I’ve always liked the idea, MrMacrum, of having one station free to the presidential candidates to advertise on too. Big Business definitely needs to be out of it.
The election in 2000 was decided by the US Supreme Court and not the voice of the people. The 2004 election was rigged. BradBlog (linked in my blogroll) has all the details.
Basically, you and I did not elect these guys, but some did. They’re to blame, especially if they voted for Bush/Cheney in 2004. We can understand why they voted for them in 2000 after 8 years of Clinton, but in 2004? Dumbasses!

Hi MrMacrum…
Rest assured “we the people” will elect more boneheads in 2008…! Except this time it will be strike three and we are out as a nation.

Um Carl about that out as a nation thingy;
George Bush already got us all thrown out of the game.

Haven’t watched a dem. debate since Gravel was bumped. Was going to watch tonight but decided not to since Kucinich isn’t going to be on.Some one was on Chris Mathew’s show talking about the horrible economic state that Michigan is in. Now I see why the DNC didn’t want them to move up in the primary. They would have voted for Edwards. I am ashamed of my party. Still going with my prediction..Edwards by a knock out. Hillary and Obama’s head but.

God I love Willie Nelson…saw him live once. He sang for 2 hours without a break at a state fair…was in his 70’s then. My neighbor , who knows his music, said he was slipping when he was here in Maine during the summer.
January 15th, 2008 @ 10:59 pm
Molly, you’re not missing much with the debate tonight. Timmah and Brian Williams started the night off with asking tons of questions about race and gender, you know, to try to get the Dem candidates fighting amongst themselves, because this is what the
War ChannelNBC wants. Spit.Willie Nelson is terrific! Love him.

im definately with kucinich on this one. he has a right to speak, and hes just as much of a candidate as the rest of them are.

MSNBC is full of themselves now that their ratings are rising. The only show worth watching is Keith Olbermann’s and even he has his off days. He’s allowed. The others aren’t. Every day is an off day for almost everyone else on that network.
The “debates” are a joke. I’d rather see a real debate instead of the press conferences they call debates. I learn more about the candidates on my own, using my hands and keyboard than I’ve ever learned from one of these “debates.”
It’s shameful the way all of the networks are treating candidates that they don’t consider “top tier.” Our election system is fucked up beyond all recognition and until it’s reformed the best a citizen can do is to try to inform themselves on the stance each candidate has taken on as many issues as possible. It’s an almost impossible task but we have our computers, we still have access to the internet and we better get busy. Websites are dedicated to informing you about a candidate’s votes, a candidate’s financing and a candidate’s promises. Don’t rely on your favorite blogs to tell you everything you need to know. Some blogs are better than others. *wink* November will be here before you know it. GET BUSY!
MSNBC should be ashamed of themselves for excluding anyone who has declared their intent to run for President. I don’t care if there are 25 candidates. If the debate has to be extended so that each candidate is allowed to speak, so be it. The winnowing-down of the list of candidates is up to the voters, not MSNBC. Not CNN. Not FAUX. Nor any of the others. How dare any network decide to choose for me who I should be allowed to listen to. It’s not their place!
One more thing… I’d like to BITCHSLAP Brian Williams for mentioning the “race thing” between Hillary and Barack, and I’m just the BITCH to do it!
January 16th, 2008 @ 7:38 am
“The winnowing-down of the list of candidates is up to the voters, not MSNBC.”
Exactly, Randy! The voice of the people is dead thanks to MSNBC, ABC, FOX NEWS, and others. Who the hell do they think they are?
January 16th, 2008 @ 11:02 pm
I think I am going to the cinema this weekend to see an enactment of a real DEBATE:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427309/
Plus I like Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. Tis true, these “debates” of the past few national elections are a sham. They are infomercials for the DNC and RNC and NOT true debates. The MSM helps to decide whom they want to feature depending upon “hot topics” and “mud fights” that will increase their viewer-ship. Political debates are becoming more akin to professional “wrestling!” Maybe they need Vince McMahon to run them. Maybe then we will see some chairs cracked over heads and they might become worth watching!

Kay – As long as we continue to use the Electoral College to be the final word on Presidential elections, the popular vote will continue to be nothing but a super poll. The fact that most states follow their popular vote does not mean we elect anyone. The fact that it was even set up in the first place indicates a strong lack of trust in the People even by our founders.
You say you can understand someone voting for Bush after 8 years of Clinton. Again I say we have ended up with the govenrment we deserve. The 2 party system is so ingrained in our political system that what is offered up in the way of candidates often is only 2 sides of the same coin. Until a viable 3rd party emerges this will continue to be the case.
January 18th, 2008 @ 7:39 am
I agree, MrMacrum. I’ve been screaming about it for years that a viable 3rd party is what the country needs.
