Pictures of Maine snow storm on January 1-2, 2008

My son and I still haven’t found the cord to our digital camera (we think it’s been under the snow for over a month now), so after searching the electronic stores to find a replacement, a very nice young guy said to me tonight, “Hey I know! Why don’t you buy one of these!” and he shoved a memory card reader in my face. So voila! I don’t need a cord and I’m back in business!

We had two snow storms this week. One started on Sunday into Monday and then on New Year’s Day night, we got another one….this one brought my area at least 15 inches of snow. I took pictures as it was happening and also took a video of it (I’m trying to upload it to YouTube but it keeps telling me that there was an error…I’ll have to wait until tomorrow when my son comes home from his friend’s house to help me out with it).

The snowflakes in this storm were large. Usually large snowflakes means a short storm, but not this time. It snowed liked this all through the night. My son and I shoveled twice Tuesday night and then on Wednesday I had to shovel again (he ended up having an extra day off from school).Sooooo….

Here’s what it looked like on New Year’s night.

Can you find my car in this picture? Me neither. LOL

Here’s the view of the snow next to the garage (the hood of my car is in the lower right):

The chair on my deck in this picture is pregnant like Britney’s 16 year old sister…

Here’s what the neighborhood woke up to! Can you see the amount of snow on the picnic table in the distance in front of the house? Wow! There is 2 feet of snow on it right now. I love the icicles in this picture too. Make sure you look at the fence on the left to see how high the plowed snow on the side of the road is. It’s over the freaking fence!

The view up the street. Again…you can’t see the top of my fence posts…

Here’s the view in the opposite direction. Nice road sign, huh? My mailbox is not far from the sign and it’s completely enclosed in snow with only the mail box door visible. LOL By the way, you can’t make it out in the picture, but the house in this pic is purple. Yes, purple! When I first put the offer on the house in May, this house was brown and by the time I moved in, they had painted it purple. LMAO! This couple is in their 60’s and they are a hoot and a half. They are veeeeeeeeery Maine. I feel lucky because the families on both sides of me are terrific. The neighbor diagonal from me? Not so much.

And last but not least….my CAH in the driveway! (Ignore the garage door…that baby is going to be replaced in the spring/summer this year) Do you see much room there to walk? I don’t either! I can only fit one car in. My neighbor told me that one of the previous owners took down two sections of the fence to the right of the garage and then had his ploy guy push the snow over the bank. Not a bad idea! The snow is too deep right now for a plow truck to push through it to do this, so I may do it next winter early on, but for now will use my muscles to shovel it myself.

We had scraped the car off twice the night before, so that’s why there isn’t much snow on it. The next storm we get, I won’t shovel it off and will try to remind myself to take a picture of it.

This storm was a wicked good one. :-)

Watching the Republican debate and those shovels are needed there to scoop up the bullshit. They all “heart” the Bush Baby.

Kay needs an angel to buy her a snow blower for next winter, and all the pictures you have shown of your beautiful home must make you proud. Are you sure you are not a Republican? It sure looks like a winner to me; nice neighborhood; great backyard; elegant inside atmosphere; and the fencing was a great touch. Yep, you boy must be beeming with what his mom has done.

Thanks guys for the nice comments! We love our new home and we’re loving the seasonal change around it. We wouldn’t change a thing (well, still painting inside! LOL)! We love it here.

The Moderate, where are you from? You’re obviously south of here.

And Grant? *giving you a V8 juice bonk to the forehead* 72 degrees at your house? Wow! LOL You’re making me jealous. Stop it.

Ox, I’m going to ask my Dad if I can have his snowblower. They go to Florida for the winter and if they haven’t given it to my sister or brother, I’m going to see if I can have it. As you can see by the pictures, it’s needed! LOL Wow. That wasn’t the biggest snowstorm we’ve ever had, but man, it was a good one. Pushing the snow is back breaking. We love our home, even if it’s a humble one. Nothing wrong with that! I know how to make a house a home and slowly I will do that. :-)

Grant, you’re right about the republican debate tonight! I’ve been live blogging over at FDL with the rest of the foul-mouthed fem bloggers. They too thought the bullshit was getting deep and we needed our waders to get through it. LOL!

    I had better things to do then watch repubie verbal praises of Bush and expose their inbred mental masturbation again;

I though about watching paint dry, but fortunately the munch-kin wanted to go shopping,

    GLOBAL WARMING????????????????????????// HA!

Bill, last year at this time we had 90 degree days…the warmest November & December on record! In fact we didn’t get snow until February at the beginning of 2007. We’re having a 40 degree day today when we’ve barely made it above zero for a week or so (wind chill took us to 15 degrees below zero).

Global warming at it’s heart means crazy unpredictable horrific weather. Case in point, flooding between Nevada and California have caused a levee to break and close to 900 homes have been flooded with freezing cold water. It’s the opposite of Katrina, except the water level didn’t reach the 2nd floor of the buildings!
