Sunday backyard blogging…

Last night I went out with my neighbor Louise again along with her daughter and her friends (two of which were a gay couple who were an absolute hoot and a half!). Had a great time, but am veeeeeeeeeeery tired and hungover today. Ugh. One good thing? I met the local Sheriff who got back from Iraq a year ago. He said while he was there, there wasn’t a day that didn’t go by without bullets or something being launched against them (his Unit was in Baghdad). I asked him if he would go back and he said, “Not on your life”. Also, I think I may have met Steve Tyler of Aerosmith’s brother! LOL Okay, not sure, but he was an older guy with white hair (Steve Tyler still colors his, but would have white hair if he didn’t) and the exact same face as Steve’s! When I mentioned it to him, he just smiled and the three other guys who were with him said they were up here playing golf for the weekend at Sunday River in Bethel (@ 45 minutes from where I live). Hmmmmm….he didn’t deny that he was in fact Tyler’s brother. Aerosmith is a Boston band and the Tyler’s have family here and in New Hamshire. Sooooo….maybe I did meet Tyler’s brother? Could be!

Here’s a shot of the brook behind my home. It’s low right now, but picks up nicely after a downpour. Come spring this brook will be alive! I can’t wait!

As you can see, the leaves are starting to change here. They’re not at their most vibrant, but they will be! October is the month when they glow across the landscape. Now that I’m living in a mountainous area the foliage is going to be breathtaking for sure! I’ll try to remind myself to take pictures for all of you to see.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

What a beautiful sight. Too bad the weather there is not as nice year round as it is here in sunny San Andreas, CA. Take a look at some of the pictures in our neighborhood. Go to http://www.amadorwriters.com

Thank you, amadorwr. I loved the picture on your site too! Nothing like being around water no matter where it is, huh? I find that I relax more when I am around water and this explains why it’s so difficult for me to get up in the morning now! I feel like I’m at camp everyday. :-)

Maine Foliage Report (zones, etc.–end of next week you’ll hit peak, Kay).

Glad you had some R&R last night!

Thanks for the foliage report, Mainefem! It’s definitely getting near peak. The yellows are glorious this year.

Yes, I got a ton of rest yesterday. Awesome. ;-)

We don’t have much fall color here except in some spots many miles from the Gulf Coast. What leaves drop here do it mostly in December then releaf starting in February. Many of our trees, like live oaks, magnolias, hollies, wax myrtles are evergreen as are most of our shrubs. Most of our deciduous tree leaves just turn drab yellow or brown and drop. We do have isolated color in our sweetgum, pear, crape myrtle, pistachio, and tallowood trees. More and more red maples are being planted here and some are quite colorful.

We do have isolated stands of small sugar maples in the “hill country”, NE Texas near Shreveport, LA, and at Guadalupe National Park on the New Mexican border. They don’t grow tall like up north. The tallowoods here are trashy trees that were imported from China over a century and a half ago and since have been very invasive taking over thousands of square miles along the coast, but many are now being bulldozed for land development.

why would you find it necessary to describe and call attention that two of the neighbors are “gay”? Why would you label them? I thought Democrats like you were about NOT labeling people. So why would you label them? Why would you call attention to what they do in their private life?

    Are you jealous?
