Harry Reid: “The war is lost”

Well, first off…it’s not a war. It’s an illegal occupation of a nation who didn’t attack us and who couldn’t even if they wanted to.

Second of all….woohoo Harry Reid! Finally someone said the obvious out loud! *slapping Harry five!*

From MSNBC:

The US has “lost” the war in Iraq and President George W. Bush’s efforts to stabilize the country through increased military force are futile, according to Harry Reid, leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate.
>
The comments are among the starkest admissions of defeat in Iraq yet made by a senior US politician and highlight the increasingly wide and bitter division between Congress and the White House over the war.
>
Mr Reid said he believed that Condoleeza Rice, secretary of state, and Robert Gates, defense secretary, already knew “that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything”.

Even General Petraeus is admitting that the recent surge is ending up with more dead bodies and is not taking America down the ‘winning path’:

Before the setbacks of recent days, Bush administration officials had been voicing cautious optimism that its deployment of an additional 30,000 troops to Iraq was starting to deliver results.
>
But General David Petraeus, chief of coalition forces in Iraq, admitted yesterday that Wednesday’s car bombings had dented confidence.
>
“A day like that can have a real psychological impact, and it came where, frankly, [we] felt like we were getting a bit of traction,” he said.

How the hell do you win an illegal occupation with a civil war going on in the middle of it, anyways? Bush is just a delusional man who will not change course, because he would rather protect his ego than anything else. Sick.

i hope he backs this up by cutting off the funds. if he thinks the war is lost (it is), and we should leave (we should), then the only way to do that is to cut the funds. when bush vetoes the bill, just dont bring it back up to a vote.

Bush will then have to choose.. either bring the troops home, or keep them in Iraq without the money to do their jobs.

George Bush has made his bed, its time to for him to lay in it.

Here’s some good news. President Clinton said the following last night on CNN’s Larry King Live:

The Democrats running for president “are gifted people and they deserve to be seriously listened to,” and “you have got the prospect that vice president Gore might run.”

    Wow!

  3. Larry says:

Its too bad Reid doesn’t back up his word with action and end this fiasco. Maybe he will get a spine.

It only took Harry Reid a little over four years to figure out an army of 140,000 troops backed up by 100,000 private contractors can’t properly police a nation of 25,000,000 even with a temporary ramp up of 30,000 extra troops, especially since the troops and contractors don’t speak the language…

Oh and BTW, not to mention the cultural and religious differences which exacerbate the diallema the troops find them selves in and the lack of a good coordinated plan for follow on to combat operations which was necessary for any hope for a successful occupation. If the idiots who originated this illegal war didn’t think they would have to occupy Iraq after invading, toppling the government, dis-banding the military, firing all civil servants, they were hanging out in a motel room with the Rev Haggard, toking on his meth pipe.

At least Harry Reid can express what a true fiasco this is,

Georgie the chimperor, who fails at everything he touches

    Not so Much.

Right on Clif! Whoever decided to tear apart Iraq’s existing Army early on is also an imbecile too.

George Bush and his band of thieves never had an exit plan because they never wanted to leave in the first place. They’re just using our troops for their own financial gain. Disgusting!

Ronald McDumsfeld…who ordered L Paul Bremer to do it.

“I HOPE IT’S YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS THAT DIE” -

Quote by US Representative Dana Rohrabacher

“I HOPE IT’S YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS THAT DIE” said US Representative Dana Rohrabacher to American citizens who questioned the Bush Administration’s unlawful extraordinary rendition policies.

Congressional hearings provide a deep insight into the inner spirit of our elected representatives-and sometimes, the insight is not pretty.

On April 17, we witnessed Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) unleash his unbridled anger onto members of the European Parliament’s committee on Human rights who were invited guests and witnesses in the House Foreign Affairs European subcommittee hearing. The European Parliamentary human rights committee had issued a report in January, 2007 sharply critical of the Bush administration’s extraordinary rendition program in which persons from all over the world were detained by either CIA or local police and then flown by CIA jet (torture taxi) to other countries where they were imprisoned (Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Libya, Djibouti, Morocco, Yemen. The report was equally critical of European governments for allowing the unlawful flights to take place.

The neocon-fascists are mad that their “Security = Freedom” Nanny SuperState propaganda is starting to fall on deaf ears.

Time for some black-ops bullsh*t to get the sheep back in line. Body count is key, ala 9/11 and Virginia Tech.

    Keep your eyes open.

What. You don’t think the people responsible for making 4 million homeless in Iraq alone, the deaths of (working on) a million – Iraq alone, couldn’t bother to keep NOLA safe from flooding ( the ‘repair’ work after Katrina hasn’t brought preparedness up to levels that were insufficient then : would be deterred by humanitarian concerns and patriotism ? What a cynic ! I’m sure 3300 idealistic young sacrifices put in the ground would make them think long and hard about the sanctity of American life.

Kay, awesome photo on this fine post.

Christopher, I read Clinton’s statement about Gore and my heart did flipflops! PleasePleasePlease It isn’t very definite, but why would he say it without reason to believe Gore might declare his candidacy? Interesting also was Clinton saying Hillary would continue making a good senator if she isn’t elected.

Yes, very good photo to illustrate all the insanity of Iraq invasion and its consequences, and good post!
