Spring is coming and so is Congressman Tom Allen’s announcement!

Oh please, please, please….*doing Snoopy dance*.
I love the month of May. Why? Because Congressman Tom Allen D-ME might (he will! I just know it!) officially announce his candidacy in the 2008 Senatorial race against Sen. Susan Collins. Whoopie!
From The Hill:
Rep. Tom Allen (D-Maine) likely will make his candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2008 official in the next month, campaign manager Valerie Martin told The Hill yesterday.
>
Allen has been expected to challenge Sen. Susan Collins (R) for months, and raised about $400,000 during the first quarter. No other major candidates have expressed interest in the race, leaving the Democratic field clear for Allen.
Collins raised more than $800,000 in the first quarter and holds an $800,000–$1.2 million cash-on-hand advantage.
I’m not worried about Tom Allen not raising enough money, because knowing that he’s raised $400,000 already, it proves to me that once he does announce his candidacy the money is going to come pouring in! Susan Collins should be scared. Oh wait, she is…
From Congress Daily on 4/13/07 (sorry no link! It was sent to me by a friend online):
Steve Abbott, chief of staff for Collins, said this afternoon she is “extremely grateful” to have Lieberman’s support and said it helps her appeal to Maine’s large number of independent voters. “One of the big issues in this campaign is there is a big difference on how Susan Collins and Tom Allen approach their jobs,” Abbott said. He said Collins’ productive working relationship with Lieberman on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is a model of bipartisanship and demonstrates her moderate positions. “Tom Allen is a partisan. He’s known in Maine as a partisan, and he’s known in Washington as a partisan,” Abbott said.
Interesting, Susan Collins’ chief of staff is trying to tell us that Susan Collins isn’t partisan, that Tom Allen is, and that she is free as a bird in her thinking, even though she is at least 70% aligned with the Bush White House! Yes, that’s right. “Ms. Jackboot Licker of the Bush Ideologies” wants us to believe that she loves and embraces the liberal agenda. Uh huh, okay Susan. Apparently, everyone in her eyes is partisan if they do not embrace illegal occupations, illegal wiretapping (Patriot Act), and torture (Military Commissions Act). Gee Susan, anyone with an ounce of decency and American patriotism in their heart wouldn’t support any of those things, but you do, huh Susan? And that’s because you’re….not….partisan, right?
The following is a picture of Joe & Susan standing behind their Kingpin pretending to protect America. Hey! They’re smiling…what more do you want! They love him and each other!…

MyLeftNutmeg has a good summary of the “Joe & Susan [heart] Each Other” saga…..(HERE).
I am sooooooo going to love the month of May this year. Not only will the spring flowers be popping up all over the place, but Maine’s own US Congressman Tom Allen will be popping up to. Heck, I won’t even complain that it’s mud-season. Woohoo! I love the springtime, don’t you?

Susan Collins is wearing a red dress, and most of the men are wearing red ties. Is this some sort of code lol?
April 18th, 2007 @ 9:44 pm
Why yes it is, Ox. The Jackboot Nazi Party always wears red. Rarely do they not. Thanks for the chance to clear that up!

*most of the men are wearing red ties.*
All but Bush, must be telling the re-pubies they are as expendable to the PNAC neo-con clown posse as the rest of us are to Him.

Nice observation Clif. Well, Bush is wearing a baby blue colored tie and that could signify that he’s, well you know, *kicking sand*, kind of baby-bluey…think ‘Turdblossom’. LOL

Wow I will watching that race..So many times i have watched the two Maine Senators and wondered WHY are you voting with them. The Neo Cons. i have called their offices. I would love to see Collins replaced her priorities are just Wrong. Now that is something to look forward to, along with those spring flowers. You Mainers hang in there. Spring will come

I would love to see both Susan and Olympia in the future kicked to the curb, Proudprogressive! I’ve never voted for Susan Collins, but did always vote for Olympia up until the 2006 race. She did not get my vote last year and will never again, because her record is as bad as Susan’s when it comes to supporting the Bush Regime’s policies.
Once Tom Allen announces his run against Susan Collins, Chellie Pingree (she ran against Susan in 2002 and lost 58%-42%), Ethan Strimling, and Adam Cote (Iraq veteran) will be going after his seat. Let’s keep it blue!

Is Tom Allen The Right Candidate to beat Susan Collins?
I am not a big Susan Collins fan, she started out as a moderate in true Maine tradition which is what I believe most Mainers want and expect from their elected officials (she is no Marguerite Chase Smith by a long shot). Of late though she has abandoned that moderate stance to become a Senator that puts party (BushCo) loyalty ahead of state and country. A major dissapointment to be sure.
With Tom Allen on the other hand one is left to wonder who he is and what he stands for? As a member of congress for some time now we seem to hear very little out of him. One would expect that with someone that is planning to take on a somewhat popular incumbent senator we would here some noise out of him on the major issues of the day, instead of what seems to be stone cold silence. I know more what out of state representivies like Murtha,Conyers, Waxman etc. stand for more than I do my own representive, why is that?
It seems to me that unless Tom Allen is willing to come out of the shadows and start making noise everytime Susan Collin’s goes against the wishes of the majority of poeple in this state and continues her cozy relationships with Bush/Leiberman and company then maybe the Dems should be looking a little further for a stronger candidate that can have a serious shot of removing her from office.
I really think that Maine wants leadership not acquiescence in it’s elected officials.

TomInMaine, all you need to know about Tom Allen is that he did not vote for the Iraq war in the beginning! He’s been against it ever since.
You bring up a good point about Mainers not knowing their representatives very well. I think it’s because of our local media here. They’re very protective of them all it seems to me.
Myself and others are on it. We are going to get Susan Collin’s jackboot licking record out there as much as possible, because she’s been in lock step with the Bush White House’s agenda for the past seven years. She can’t call herself a moderate anymore, though, she wants people here in Maine to continue to believe she is. We’re on it!
April 19th, 2007 @ 8:33 am
Kay, Point taken but here again I learn something about Tom Allen from the back door so to speak.
I didn’t realize that he did not vote for the Iraq war. On that point alone He has a shot at getting my vote.
Allen is going to have to work very hard to overcome the media in this state and the political machine that Susan Collins will have to secure her re-election. Lets face it, nice guys in this case will finish last. Staying in the shadows and not coming out swinging right from the beginning is not going to cut it.
Damm it, we need somebody with fire in their gut and I just don’t see that in Allen.
April 19th, 2007 @ 9:24 am
Tom, once Allen announces his candidacy I think you’re going to see lots of excitement. Collins isn’t as loved as Olympia is and the Maine Senate race for 2008 is in the top 10 races to watch. Collins is considered weak for the GOP.
Think positive! Allen has done a lot of good for the people of Maine, but one thing he hasn’t done is be a jackboot licking supporter of Bush’s policies like Susan is. He has the independent voice Maine and our nation needs right now.
Okay, going to work. Have a great day Tom and thanks so much for talking this morning. Others who will come here to visit today will see it. That’s good.
