During 2006, the democrats in the House & Senate realized how powerful the blogs truly are to our democracy. For years now, we’ve witnessed the “liberal media” (it’s really the ROM…republican owned media) being the mouthpiece for the White House and for the GOP in the drum up to the war and since then. Opposing views were not allowed and even today, the media is a joke because they never balance out their shows to provide Americans with both sides of the issue. It’s really disheartening. Not only that, the media doesn’t do the background story investigations that they used to do. Many of us don’t feel we can rely on the news to bring us the truth to what is happening in our nation and locally, but the blogs are now doing these kinds of investigations and individuals with certain expertises are using their knowledge, so the general public will better undestand who the players are and how all of it is connected (usually the story behind the story is the bigger story!). So it’s not surprising that Nancy Pelosi and others are embracing this outlet to get their message out. Well, okay, they’re not embracing my blog, because it’s just a humble little speck in the Left Blogosphere (LOL), but there are huge blogs that do have the attention of our government officials and it’s about time! I’m so happy about it.
WASHINGTON – Shortly after her swearing-in as the first female House speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) took time to field questions from a few dozen Internet bloggers on a conference call that was off limits to mainstream media.

Last week, Pelosi’s aides arranged for bloggers to question two Democratic House leaders on another conference call shortly before President Bush’s State of the Union speech.
Pelosi also hired a full-time staff member this month dedicated to blogger outreach, and is making plans to launch a blog of her own. The day she was sworn in, bloggers were given special accommodations at the Capitol to cover the event, and fed lunch.
Here’s what John Aravosis of AMERICAblog (my favorite blog by the way) had to say:
“They’ve gone from an initial writing blogs off, then moving to skepticism, then moving to, ‘OK, maybe we can find a way of working with these guys,’” said John Aravosis, who runs Americablog.com.
“It’s a power base and it’s influential and it’s an opportunity. And you know what? It exists,” Aravosis added.
“It should only scare you if you’re on their bad side.”
Aravosis is a trusted blogger and is a Washington insider, meaning, he is connected to the right people there. Just as newspapers and newsprograms use confidential sources to write their articles, John (and other bloggers such as himself who have power on the Internet) is also a tool for individuals in government or what have you, who want to get the truth out about a current situation. AMERICAblog was also a huge tool before the mid-term election in November of 2006 for raising money for democratic candidates that didn’t have the power or presitgue to get lots of money from the DCCC. Over a hundred thousand dollars was raised in a short amount of time and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Nancy and others saw the power of the blogs at that mooment and knew then that they needed to act upon it. Could very well be.
Well, I’m so happy to hear that Nancy Pelosi is pushing her staff and other democrats in the House/Senate to use bloggers. We want them to. Most of us are blogging because we want our thoughts to be known about what has happened in this country for the past six years. We’re also blogging because we want our government to listen to us too!
Let’s hope Ms. Nancy and others READ what we have to say when we talk to her via her new blog. She would be stupid not to listen to us.

LOL I would love that Smoke. With both of us being Italian, she and I would have a hell of time!
I LOVE YOUR RANT!!
Hey, I just posted this note to you on my blog so I’ll put it here too:
KayinMaine – that was the sweetest thing you wrote — like a breath of fresh air. You write so beautifully, and you have the soul of an angel, with an edge… I know it’s funny how our tone changes when we speak the name that cannot be spoken… Voldemort…
You know what I’m talking about?
xo
Lyd
Thank you so much Lydia!!! Uh, excuse me, but you have the heart and soul of an angel. Your writings are so inspirational to me. I truly mean that. Like I’ve said, you’re one of the few who can talk about their spirituality who doesn’t send me over the edge!
And yes, Volt needs to take lessons from you!!! The man is insane, but then again, he loves Bush. Anyone who does is not in their right mind.
Love ya!
